On the Scene
Sure the Oscars had low ratings, but I still think it was one of the better shows in history. It was positive, the music performances were excellent, and the right people won. As for the fashion, the ladies hit it out of the park. See below for some personal favorites.
The NAACP Image Awards celebrates the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature and film, and the 49th annual event welcomed top talent in the industry. For a look at some of the memorable fashion moments, see below.
Though the entire fashion community reports on the Oscars, I personally prefer the Kid’s Choice Awards. It’s the perfect place for a creative color palette, with young, youthful looks that set a fashion-forward precedent. Plus, it provides an entertaining conundrum for the adults who attend, given the delicate balance between dressing inside your age range while also sustaining the fun factor.
Who needs a long, boring ceremony when you can just skip it and head to the coolest party in town? Take a look at some pictures from the Vanity Fair party. Rumor has it that it’s the most exclusive party in town.
‘Office Christmas Party’ opened last night in Los Angeles, and the stars came out for the premiere. Miller) and his Chief Technical Officer (Jason Bateman) then rally their co-workers to host an epic office Christmas party in an effort to impress a potential client and close a sale that will save their jobs. It co-stars Kate McKinnon, Olivia Munn, Jillian Bell, Rob Corddry, Vanessa Bayer, Randall Park, Sam Richardson, Jamie Chung, and Courtney B. Vance.

Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer and Director Mel Gibson walked the red carpet at the US Premiere of HACKSAW RIDGE at The Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles.
The film is the true story of Pfc. Desmond T. Doss (Andrew Garfield), who won the Congressional Medal of Honor despite refusing to bear arms during WWII on religious grounds. Though ostracized by fellow soldiers for his stance, he was later acknowledged for his bravery after he risked his life — without firing a shot — to save 75 men in the Battle of Okinawa. See pictures from the event below.
New Orleans fans of Jack Reacher were in for a treat, as the film’s stars walked the red carpet for a special fan screening. See some images from the event below.

DL1961 and Jessica Alba teamed up for the launch of their 18 piece collection, available at DL1961, in addition to other retail partners, which include Nordstrom, Shopbop, Bloomingdale’s and specialty stores. Alba designed the collection with DL1961 to focus on the reality of a woman’s body, accentuating her curves while also keeping things comfy-chic. According to Alba, if it “didn’t make sense for [her] and [her] girlfriends, it didn’t make the cut.”
Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, Gina Rodriguez, Kate Hudson, and Director Peter Berg walked the red carpet at the Toronto Film Festival World Premiere Gala Presentation of Lionsgate’s “Deepwater Horion.” The biographical disaster thriller is based on the 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The movie opens September 30, 2016, in the United States. See pictures from the event below.
Burberry’s CCO and CEO Christopher Bailey worked together with photographer Mario Testino to feature Lily James in Burberry’s ‘My Burberry Black’ campaign. The campaign unfolded on Burberry’s Snapchat account as Lily James had control of the channel all coming together with the reveal of the global TV campaign. The My Burberry Black perfume, also created by Christopher Bailey, is designed to encompass the tantalizing elements of a Burberry trench coat against bare skin. The fragrance brings together the scents jasmine flower, peach nectar, and a touch of rose. It comes in an amber colored glass bottle that incorporates aspects of the classic coat into its appearance. The bottle can also be monogrammed with up to three initials on Burberry.com and certain brick and mortar retailers.
BEN-HUR, based on Lew Wallace’s renowned novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, stars Jack Huston as the prince, Judah Ben-Hur, who has been falsely accused of treason by Messala, an officer in the Roman army and Judah’s adopted brother. These accusations lead to the loss of his title, separation from those closest to him, including the woman he loves, played by Nazanin Boniadi, and years of forced slavery. Eventually Judah returns looking for revenge, but in its place he finds redemption. BEN-HUR also stars Morgan Freeman as Ilderim and Rodrigo Santoro as Jesus.

Ever wonder what exactly happens when you leave your house when you’re going about your busy day? Are you jealous of the pets you leave behind and fear their affection for your expensive shoes might demand a new trip to the mall? Well Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures are prepared to present you with an answer, and it’s called ‘The Secret Life of Pets.’

Though Matthew McConaughey was noticeably missing from the red carpet for his upcoming film, ‘Free State of Jones,’ there are still some pretty pictures worth seeing. Below is a quote about the film’s contents. Scroll down for images from the event.
Written and directed by four-time Oscar® nominee Gary Ross (The Hunger Games, Seabiscuit, Pleasantville), and starring Oscar® winner Matthew McConaughey, Free State of Jones is an epic action-drama set during the Civil War, and tells the story of defiant Southern farmer, Newt Knight, and his extraordinary armed rebellion against the Confederacy. Banding together with other small farmers and local slaves, Knight launched an uprising that led Jones County, Mississippi to secede from the Confederacy, creating a Free State of Jones. Knight continued his struggle into Reconstruction, distinguishing him as a compelling, if controversial, figure of defiance long beyond the War.
In a weird merging of worlds, cast members from MTV’s The Challenge joined Mike O’Malley for a DEW Event. I know nothing of DEW or this odd event, but I’m posting these photos simply because of my personal crush on Chris “CT” Tamburello. And I won’t hold the beard against him.
There’s no denying Carole King is a chart-topping legend in the music business, but before her rise to fame she was a Brooklyn-born aspiring songwriter who fought her way into the record business as a teenager. With husband and Gerry Goffin at her side, she wrote some of the biggest hits and history for the industry’s most well-known acts. ‘Beautiful’ tells the story of her rise to stardom. The musical is not to be missed, and Angelinos can catch it at the Hollywood Pantages Theater.
‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows’ is scheduled for release June 3, and American Tortoise Rescue (ATR) is on the case. ATR is asking parents to avoid the turtle-buying impulse and purchase a toy instead. According to ATR, “After a brief period, usually a day or two, of caring for a turtle, most children become bored and lose interest. Parents will realize that frequent tank cleaning is not their cup of tea, and either neglect the turtle until it dies, toss them in a pond or river or cart them off to the nearest animal shelter or turtle rescue.”
Buy a toy, not a turtle.
Los Angeles is flooded with fun things to do, and King Trivia’s ‘Friends’ ‘themed trivia night at Busby’s East was no exception. Some 50 teams came out to test their knowledge of the hugely popular sitcom, packing the venue with avid fans looking to win a substantial cash prize.
King Trivia is well known throughout the Los Angeles area, hosting dozens of pub trivia nights each week. Though their events usually welcome trivia players of all abilities, this time was a tad different. The fanatical ‘Friends’ players tested their knowledge of character names, obscure love interests, the occupations of Paul Rudd’s parents, and the species of Ross’ pet monkey.
The quizmasters were well prepared, having “runners” placed throughout the venue to facilitate answer sheets, tabulating results, and checking to ensure all players were registered. And, as mentioned, the questions proved its organizers did their homework.
While the trivia was challenging but fun, the venue itself was simply challenged. Busby’s was overwhelmed with the number of players, and unable to handle the volume of orders that hit them more or less all at once. This is understandable – it isn’t every day that 300+ customers come in at the same time and order tables full of food and drinks – but it was frustrating to wait more than an hour for food. The wait staff did their best, and maintained good attitudes during the deluge, but Busby’s would do well to better prepare for the next event.
All in all, this was a very entertaining evening. Be sure to check out King Trivia’s regular trivia nights – they’re sure to host one near you if you live anywhere in the LA area!
Angelinos in the exercise community are well aware of Rise Nation, a high-intensity, low-impact 30 minute workout that will leave you covered in sweat and far less bored than a full hour of spin class. And who better to visit the studio than Ashley Greene, who is either genetically gifted or a work-out fanatic (or perhaps a bit of both). Greene hosted a Muscle Milk sponsored re-launch event at the West Hollywood location, and the invite only group fitness class was lead by founder and celebrity trainer Jason Walsh. Enjoy some pictures from the event below.

It’s always smart to align with celebrities for promotion, and it was clearly a shrewd move for Manolo Blahnik, whose new “9 to 5” boots “broke the internet.” Launched earlier this week, the limited-edition Rihanna x Manolo Blahnik footwear collaboration caps off at nearly $5,000.
Though many young girls played with princess dolls and fancied a tiara atop their long, lustrous tresses awaiting for that white horse, I personally can’t think of anything more tedious than the reality of that life. Forget Netflix and chill, because being a “princess” is an eternal meet-and-greet with high heels, tight pantyhose, and far too many fake smiles and germ-ridden handshakes. How much anti-bacterial liquid can one use before your hands run dry ? Also, who wants to fly everywhere? Anyhow, Kate Middleton seems to take it in stride, and she covered British Vogue looking happy and carefree. According to Vogue, it was “photographed by Josh Olins in the Norfolk countryside,” and “the Duchess appears in a 10-page shoot within the June 2016 issue.” It’s her first magazine shoot. I’m also unsure if this is just a photo-shoot or an actual interview because . . . seen and not heard.
Ellie Goulding and GoMacro are teaming up to offer fans a chance to win a “Goulding Ticket” to her show from her uniquely created flavor of fitness bars. The lucky winner will receive a meet and greet with Ellie during her Delirium tour, along with the opportunity for a one-on-one workout. The Goulding Ticket sweepstakes have already started and the concert portion is open until May 31st, 2016. Your chance at a workout is open until August, 31st, 2016.
“I am excited to begin my partnership with a brand that shares my values of healthy living and giving back.”

As a child, I had the fortunate pleasure of attending both expensive restaurants and family-friendly neighborhood favorites, and I vividly remember an impressive, attentive service staff that were dedicated to creating an unforgettable experience. Because of my broad range of data, I can safely say that the service had nothing to do with the price point and everything to do with the times. And though I still treat myself to high-end restaurants in cities across the map, the service is still sub-par in comparison to my past. So what gives? Is it nostalgia? Is it the product of an ADD generation? Have people just become less interested in one another? Though many might suggest it’s all of those factors combined, I have an alternative theory. The advent of food runners has ruined the restaurant industry.
Each and every time a waiter arrives at a customer’s table, the building blocks of a back-and-forth begin, and some sort of bond is established. The math is simple. The less a waiter sees you, the less invested he or she becomes in creating a memorable experience. In the past, it was the waiter who brought the food to the table. And though I cannot remember whether it was the waiter who also filled the drinks, my guess is yes. By also removing that variable, my original point is re-emphasized.
The other issue with food runners is that it’s not their responsibility to fix any issues with the food once it’s brought to the table. You want ketchup or hot sauce? Is your burger too rare? That’s the waiter’s territory, and if you ask a food runner to fix the issue, he or she might feel infringed upon. Once the food is placed on the table by the food runner, why not wait for the waiter? Well . . . because the food is hot, and the waiter is not always available within the first five minutes of the food arriving. Setups often breed the worst results, and this setup sinks the chain of niceties. If everyone feels infringed upon, the beloved back-and-forth of my childhood cannot survive.
Food runners serve a purpose. The tables are likely turned faster, and the waiters are available for a higher volume of customers. But that comes at a cost. Loyalty is of exceptionally high value, and no matter how strong your product, there’s someone stronger, and a customer will always value an overall experience first.
Traveling in style is always a challenge, but glamorous globetrotter and model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is giving you an inside look at her effortlessly chic lifestyle and how to land in luxury. In her column for The Violet Files, Rosie reveals her travel itinerary, packing picks, and favorite, flawless looks. First stop: Heathrow.
- In my carry on:Cashmere wrap and lounge pants from my Rosie for Autograph line, a soft white t-shirt from Paige Denim, and cashmere socks borrowed from my man. I bring my own food and snacks so I can avoid the plane food—usually I’ll pack a paleo wrap with turkey or chicken and salad, as well as nuts and dried fruit.
- Reading material:Dr. Nigma Talib’s book Younger Skin Starts in the Gut.
- Entertainment plan:Lately I’ve been catching up on reading or favorite TV shows—this time it was The People v. O.J. Simpson.
- First order of business:Ask for the biggest bottle of water they can provide and try to drink at least 3-4 liters. I also change straight into comfortable clothes, folding and hanging my airport outfit to avoid any creases before landing.
TSA-APPROVED BEAUTY (all available at VIOLET GREY and approved by the Violet Code)
- Skincare:I remove my makeup with Koh Gen Do wipes as soon as I’m settled and spritz with Santa Maria Novella Acqua di Rose. I follow up with my regular skincare routine: iS Clincal Pro-Heal Serum or C-15 Serum and Dr. Barbara Sturm Face Cream or Chantecaille’s Rose de Mai moisturizer, plus By Terry Baume de Rose for my lips. I apply African Botanics Marula Body Oil to my legs and feet to keep them hydrated.
- Makeup:I carry just enough to give me quick and easy results before landing. I use Rosie for Autograph Amazing Radiance Cream and Miracle Concealer, Tom Ford Flawless Powder/Foundation,RMS Living Luminizer and Lip2Cheek and Tom Ford lipstick in Indian Rose.
- Hair:I always keep a Tangle Teezer brush and Yves Durif comb in my bag. I’ll use some René Furterer Dry Shampoo if I’m wearing my hair down, or I’ll scrape it back and use Moroccanoil Styling Gel for a sleek, structured look.
- Pre-landing prep:I never travel without a lint roller in my bag to freshen up my outfit and my Rosie for Autograph fragrance.
- Suitcase:I constantly have to replace my luggage as it gets so battered with all the traveling I do. The best brand I’ve found is Tumi. I use their Aden Expandable Fortnight Trip—they’re the most durable bags I’ve found. I never check less than two bags. I’m the best/worst packer!
- Never-leave-home-without essentials:My iPhone, passport, reading material, change of currency and converter plugs.
- Packed in multiples:Heels, Saint Laurent coats, Paige jeans, Rosie for Autograph lingerie, t-shirts.
- Destination essential:Light jackets, a Burberry trench, Gianvito Rossi heels and Chloé sweaters. In London I’ll likely need them, no matter what time of year.

Bridget is back, and this time she has a baby on board. The only problem? Her philandering ways landed her a 50/50 father situation, and McDreamy is going head to head with Mr. Darcy for the title. So just how did Bridget end up single again for this third installment? I suppose we’ll have to see the film to find out, but from the looks of the trailer, they’re staying true to her adorably impish ways. Watch below.

As the first documentary about legendary comedian Joan Rivers since her death, ‘Joan Rivers: Exit Laughing” will debut April 1 at 10 p.m on New York’s PBS WNET Thirteen and will feature Sarah Silverman, Whitney Cummings, Kathy Griffin, Dick Cavett, Don Rickles, Lily Tomlin, Marlo Thomas and many others. It will be the first in a planned series documentary films about comedic titans and it will show how Joan “revolutionized the field as a pioneer to forge a path for the wave of female standups in the 1970’s and 1980’s and beyond,” according Jeffrey Pancer, Head Curator of the Comedy Hall of Fame.
Is there anything better than the idea of Ozzy Osbourne bonding with his son at Colonial Williamsburg? Though details of his upcoming project are being kept secret, the twosome took some time at the living history museum while donning Revolutionary War hats and holding 18th century muskets. They visited trade shops along Williamsburg’s famed Duke of Gloucester Street, including the local wig shop and the Second Street American Bistro. They also made their way to the Alamo, Stonehenge, Roswell New Mexico, and Mount Rushmore, so you can probably guess the content of their rumored reality show.
Your WTF experience is headed to theaters this weekend, and Hollywood’s heavy-hitters graced the red carpet for the New York premiere. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot stars Tina Fey, Margot Robbie, Martin Freeman, Alfred Molina and Billy Bob Thornton and is directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (“Crazy, Stupid, Love”) from a screenplay by Robert Carlock (“Saturday Night Live,” “30 Rock”).
Chris Rock addressed many hot-button issues during his bold Oscar monologue, but he also made an excellent errant point about the movement to #AskHerMore in reference to women and the red carpet. Rock said that if “George Clooney shows up with a lime green tux on and a swan coming out his ass, somebody would go, “What you wearing, George?” And though the carpet didn’t see Clooney in such a getup, we did get a glimpse of Jared Leto’s eye-catching ensemble and as Rock suggested, I was dying to know what he was wearing. As it turns out, it was Gucci, and he even showed up to the Oscars with Gucci designer Alessandro Michele as his date. The red piping on his look was brilliant accented by floral carnation pin, and he finished the ensemble in velvet loafers with rhinestone snake embellishments. It’s good to see a man finally taking some fashion risk.
In a very smart move, Khloe Kardashian just gave HERSELF an exclusive reveal, explaining the real reason that she broke up with James Harden on her OWN SHOW. According to Khloe, Harden was not faithful, despite Khloe’s original offer to be in an open relationship due to the realistic burdens of their long distance love affair. Harden convinced her to commit and then “wasn’t committed.” As for proof, Khloe has the gift receipts. Need I state the obvious fact that these Kardashian kids have TERRIBLE taste in men? Perhaps Kim changed the game with Kanye, but it took three marriages to do so and his recent outbursts are not working in his favor. Either they make these men go crazy or to quote Patti Stanger, “their picker is broken.”
Atlanta has another reason to celebrate those favorable tax laws, because Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 just started production, and the heavy-hitters behind the massive success nixed Los Angeles in favor of The Peach State’s Pinewood Studios. Written and directed by James Gunn, the second film will welcome the return of its starring cast, including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, and Dave Bautista. This time around they will “unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.” Expect the Marvel offering on May 5, 2017. Here’s hoping they surpass that pesky $770 million they got the first time.
Trevor Noah covered Esquire, and the new host of ‘The Daily Show’ gave an honest take on the challenges of his role, his heritage, and taking the reigns from Jon Stewart. Read some quotes below, and visit Esquire for more.
Growing up in Apartheid South Africa:
He was an outsider, an interstitial kid: too white to be black, too black to be white. And he was funny. “I was a little shit. My dad’s friends used to complain that I had a radio in my chest…Let’s say a group of white kids were about to fight with a group of black kids. You could break the tension with a perfectly placed comment and crack everybody up. And now, once they’ve laughed, they can’t fight. Because now they’ve broken that facade of impenetrability. That was always my favorite thing…to pierce a moment with a well-timed joke.”
Flying as an African during the Ebola scare:
The man taking temperatures walked right past him, because Noah didn’t look African enough. “I’ve never felt so conflicted in my life…Don’t get me wrong, I never want anyone to think I have Ebola, but I also don’t want anyone to assume that I can’t have Ebola.”
On Jon Stewart:
Jon Stewart warned him about the anger. Staying in this business and mainlining the politics of either side can make you an angry person. Certainly Stewart was consumed by it at the end; the job aged him like a president. “But that was the reason he said I should do it, because I’m not angry. So for me, it’s weird when people are like, Why aren’t you angry? Because maybe the conversation doesn’t need more anger. Maybe that’s what’s not going to help.”
How he grabs audience’s interest:
Maybe it’s a two-minute explainer. Maybe it’s a quick news update for digital. ‘If you just have those, people go, That’s how I get my news every morning. I click on that, dedicate two minutes, then maybe watch another two minutes. I’m saying we should do it like drugs – make the news like drugs. Give them a little taste and get them coming back, and then we charge them.”
Who better to collaborate with Mattel’s Monster High dolls than Lady Gaga, who has a loyal base of “Little Monster” followers? On the heels of her much buzzed about Super Bowl performance and her upcoming tribute to David Bowie at the Grammy Awards, the star teamed up with costume designer sister to design a doll in her likeness, which will be available this Fall. All proceeds will benefit the Born This Way Foundation.
With a masterful marketing campaign that has caused a frenzy just about everywhere they visit, Zoolander 2 is about to hit theaters, and they kicked things off with a New York premiere featuring top designers on their red carpet, including Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Tommy Hilfiger, and Valentino. What happens when a rock G-d and one of the most beautiful women in the world have a baby? Well . . . you get Georgia May Jagger, and the daughter of Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall is capitalizing on the current climate of famous children paving their own path in the industry with the SS16 ad campaign of German jeweler Thomas Sabo. Paired with the equally eye-catching Marlon Teixeira, she is clearly making her mark. See the stunning photos below. All photography is by Ellen Von Unwerth.

When Kendall Jenner posted a picture of Elisa Meliani on a horse naked, she neglected to offer the model’s name, and some assumed it was Jenner in the photo. The Parisian beauty welcomed the exposure despite the omission, but I’m reposting to give the proper cred now. The picture is stunning.

The Headstrong Project held its 3rd Annual Words of War fundraiser to benefit the organization, and the night began with a moving video tribute for Sgt. Gary Johnston by Gerardo “Tony” Mena, followed by a performance of Bryan Doerries’ “Theater of War” from Emmy Award Winner John Turturro & Academy Award Nominee Amy Ryan. Late Night host Seth Meyers also led a panel discussion with Veterans, followed by a live auction. Event proceeds will be directed to effective, cost-free mental healthcare to post-9/11 combat veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress.
Hugh Hefner transformed his iconic Playboy Mansion into a captivating backdrop for his annual Midsummer Night’s dream party, and pictures from the electrifying event can be seen below. Enjoy!
Beautiful Israeli model Bar Rafaeli had a Bachelorette party with her five best friends at Club Med Finolhu Villas, Maldives. The result is stunning. See below.
The stars came out for Jennifer Lopez’s birthday bash, and by stars I mean the kind you get when you’ve been hit in the head with hotness and your vision is blurred for eternity. JLO rocked a curve-hugging, reveal-and-conceal dress with seductive cutouts and some serious ASSets. While some likened her bold Bao Tranchi dress to a similar Cushine et Ochs piece, the difference lies in the very daring details. And for all the ageist folks around town that have cried for a more conservative look for the 46th year old, perhaps they should let someone else stare at the sunlight. They don’t deserve it.
Channeling icons from Marie Antoinette to Audrey Hepburn, Kim Kardashian was back to her unusual antics while promoting Hype energy drink. I can’t make heads or tails of the artistic vision, but since it’s Kim Kardashian, it’s bound for viral success.
Donald Trump knows how to brand his babies, and Empire by Trump is no exception. The new men’s fragrance can be found exclusively at Macy’s, and it’s the perfect present for deserving dads in need of a confident scent that commands attention. With bold notes of peppermint, spicy chai and a hint of juicy apple combined with masculine florals, the seductive musky fragrance is a must-have father’s day gift. As for the bottle itself, the sleek design and packaging with hints of gold-tone details suggests it’s true to Trump’s expensive taste.
With a nod to the past, a wink at the present, and a cast of characters that will make you long for a pink dress, a weird bra on your head and some shiny Duckman shoes, For The Record presents “Dear John Hughes.” The in-demand extravaganza explores many timeless themes through a modern eye, reminding us all that John Hughes wasn’t just one of our best directors, he was our voice. The show shines a light on some of Hughes’ most iconic moments with a colorful cast of characters and legendary songs, including, Don’t You Forget About Me, We Are Not Alone, If You Leave, Pretty In Pink, and If You Were Here.
While Los Angeles is known for its bustling theater community and diverse range of dynamic shows, the For the Record series is one of a kind. With a home in Hollywood at DBA, the show offers audiences an unprecedented, party-atmosphere with an updated cabaret experience that features in-the-round staging, a live band, enhanced sound and lights, incredible performances, and more.
The series originally began in 2009 in a small bar in Los Angeles, CA, and it’s now one of the city’s most notable shows. To date, it has featured the works of acclaimed directors Quentin Tarantino, Baz Luhrmann, Coen Brothers, Paul Thomas Anderson, Martin Scorsese, Robert Zemeckis, and Garry and Penny Marshall. For the Record: John Hughes is a celebration from start to finish, and in case you’re scared you’ve missed the party, there’s still time to RSVP. The show has been extended through May 31. Go see it. Get your tickets HERE.
While I generally avoid restaurant write-ups due to my sub-par food knowledge, The Griddle Cafe deserves some extra sweet attention. Run by Chef and Founder Jodi Hortze, the delectable eatery has every pancake dish under the sun, in addition to some drool-worthy french toast that will take you to another dimension. Hortze’s admitted sugar-deprived childhood inspired her pancake palace, and the endless array of imaginative offerings would leave Willy Wonka wanting more. Grab your best friends with big appetites to share in this smorgasbord of scrumptious food. You won’t find a better breakfast in Los Angeles.
Hollywood’s leading ladies and much-talked-about reality stars saw red at the 12th anniversary of the Red Dress Awards, which honors those who have made important contributions to the fight against heart disease. Hosted by Andy Cohen and headlined by Elvis Costello, the event sheds light on the number one killer of women today. See pictures below.
The 2015 award season has officially kicked off, which means fashion’s finest are revving up for some riveting red carpet styles. With so many designers to choose from, it’s time for some predictions. See below for the top 6 picks for our favorite stars.
1. Balmain Spring/Summer 2015
This look from the ready-to-wear collection is a complete show stopper. In my honest opinion, this look could go down in history. It has the potential to be worn rather conservatively or taken to the other end of the spectrum – let’s say, risqué chic. I’d like to see this on Scarlett Johansson or Jennifer Lawrence. Those ladies would definitely do this number justice.
2. Valentino Spring/Summer 2015
One of my personal favorites from this list is this gorgeous Valentino mint gown. It embodies elegance and playfulness using tulle and sequins, the right way. This fresh look would be great on Lupita Nyong or Emma Watson who both rocked a bold coral color last year at the Golden Globes. Chi City Fashion did an awesome 2014 fashion round-up not too long ago, to refresh your memory.
3. Balenciaga Spring/Summer 2015
This 2015 Balenciaga lavender dress, shown on model Anna Ewers, is perfect for Jennifer Anniston. She typically goes for clean cut styles that fit her body like a glove. I’d like to see her take a bit of a risk this year and try a style with a more eclectic edge.
4. Carolina Herrera Spring/Summer 2015
This pop of color is a must this year and someone has to pull it off. That someone should be Kerry Washington in my book. Scheduled to present tonight at the Golden Globes, I think it’s the perfect moment for Kerry to turn some heads in this elegant, saturated shade from Carolina Herrera.
5. Unique Spring/Summer 2015
As seen on Cara Delevingne on the runway, this look is for the bold. It’s a sheer gold number that would fit perfectly for a star such as Keira Knightly, who typically goes for form fitting silhouettes in gold and sparkly tones.
6. Jason Wu Spring/Summer 2015
Known for typically rocking a bold color on the red carpet, whether dark or light, this look would be perfect for Emma Stone. She can work a solid shade like none other. I would love to see her in this dark, flowy gown from Jason Wu. The color would be heaven against her pale skin.

NFL great and television talk show host Michael Strahan sat down with Cigar Afionado for an exclusive interview, and the gentle Giant talked football, the limelight, and what’s next for his career. Read some choice quotes below.
On knowing no limits: “I don’t limit myself and I tell my kids not to let anyone limit you. That’s one of the great things I learned from my dad. He never said, ‘If…’ It wasn’t ‘If you’re drafted by the pros.’ It was always ‘When.’ When you’re drafted by the pros. He made things seem like they were supposed to happen.”
On his football field strategy: “I always looked at football as psychological. It was like chess, where you’re figuring out what your opponent’s next move will be, or how to make them move where you want them to…That’s one of the things I miss—that chess match.”
On the difference in his life since leaving football: “I’m not sore every morning.”
Co-host Kelly Ripa on Strahan’s surprising shyness: “All he has are strengths. He can talk about anything…If charm was a drug, you could extract it from his body and give it to everyone…People run up and hug him. They see a big personality. But in his private time, he’s really very shy.”
On his “Live with Kelly and Michael” audience: “Those are the only ones we really think about talking to. If I started thinking about how many people are actually watching us on TV, it would freak me out.”
On being in the limelight: “One of the most embarrassing things to me is people yelling out my name in the street, I want to be the guy who can walk in and out of a room and you don’t know I’ve been there…I miss being able to sit in a restaurant and not have people try to sneak a photo with their cameras.”
On finding anonymity within the community of cigar smokers: “Cigars solicit conversation. You see someone smoking a cigar and you feel instantly closer to them.”
On his choice cigars: “For the most part, I like my cigars light and sweet. Sometimes, though, give me something robust that will knock my socks off. I think the little ones look funny in my hand because I’m such a big guy. But I don’t want a cigar that’s the size of my thumb either.”
On his many ventures off of the field and what’s next: “Someone asked me what I’d like my legacy to be. When I thought about it, I decided I’d like to have been more successful outside of football than I was in it…I’m not done yet. I’ve got a long way to go.”
Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights promises a frightfully fun time, as the un-BOO-lievable evening event transforms Universal Studios into spooktacular scare zones, spellbinding attractions, and riveting rides. Nothing says suave like a man in a suit, especially when said man is sporting a Hugo Boss scent. HUGO BOSS Parfums bottled its best players for its “Success Beyond the Game” NFL campaign, highlighting men whose achievements extend past their sport. Enjoy some images below.

According to the team at BOSS BOTTLED, they “remain” loyal to the belief that success comes to the man who grasps life with confidence. Gerard Butler is that man.”

The folks at CheapOair are offering travel deals to cities where this year’s Oscar-nominated movies for “Best Picture” were filmed, and I thought that idea was just creative enough to post. Destinations include New York City (Wolf of Wall Street), London (Philomena), Boston (American Hustle), Los Angeles (Her), and New Orleans (Dallas Buyers Club), where fans can visit and tour the exact locations where major scenes were filmed in some of this year’s most stimulating movies.
Los Angeles (Her)
Los Angeles is the base-setting for this futuristic love story. During your stay, head to Dockweiler State Beach which is the location where Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix) and Samantha (Scarlett Johansson) shared a romantic date. New York City (Wolf of Wall Street)
When vacationing in New York City, make sure to catch lunch at Top of the Sixes, a skytop restaurant on the 41st floor of 666 Fifth Avenue, the actual building in which the LF Rothschild firm was housed. This is the location where the famous scene in which Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) gets taken out to lunch by his boss, Mark Hanna (Matthew McConaughey) on his first day on the job and is taught the “key” to being a successful and powerful investment banker. Afterwards, head over to the World Financial Center overlooking the water, to see the backdrop of where Belfort’s yacht was docked in a scene where he was getting investigated by the FBI. CheapOair is offering a vacation package to New York, New York for a 4 night/5 day stay at the Hilton Manhattan East starting at $824 per person.

New Orleans (Dallas Buyers Club)
Movie buffs across the country should add New Orleans to their list of desired locations. Known for being a city used in various Texas-set films, including the Oscar nominated “Dallas Buyers Club.” Producers made the “Big Easy” look like the “Big D” in many scenes. CheapOair is offering a vacation package to New Orleans, Louisiana for a 4 night/5 day stay at the Le Pavillon Hotel starting at $601 per person.
Sample rate listed is for travel from Dallas to New Orleans between March 6, 2014 and March 10, 2014, based on availability. Additional dates and locations available. Taxes and service fees included. For reservations, visit HERE.

There’s much to be discovered during New York Fashion Week, but the most riveting revelation of the entire event is that we’ve officially found a member of the Kardashian clan with actual talent. Kendall Jenner walked the runway for Marc Jacobs 2014 Fall collection, earning her a coveted high-fashion VIP pass. There’s controversy surrounding her bare breasts, but I’ll put my prude leanings aside to compliment fashion’s new it-girl. Watch her rock the runway below.
Because it’s a beautiful day outside, I’ve chosen this gratuitous picture of the still breathtaking Brad Pitt, who is currently shooting David Ayer’s ‘Fury.’ Enjoy.
Hollywood’s funnymen joined Guinness and Variety to to support Jimmy Kimmel, who was the Power of Comedy Award honoree at the 4th Annual Variety’s Power of Comedy event. The celebration benefited The Noreen Fraser Foundation, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to women’s cancer research. Enjoy pictures from the event below.
Paula Abdul went to the Holy Land! Welcomed by President Shimon Peres, Abdul flew to Israel via El Al and toured the Israel Museum. I’m told over the next ten days Abdul will “float in the Dead Sea, tour the Galilee, shop in Tel Aviv, and attend the city’s ‘Gindi Fashion Week.” And to think — I didn’t even know she was Jewish! This revelation makes me even more disappointed that she never conceived with Simon Cowell. Their baby would have been 3/4ths Jewish! Take a gander at some very beautiful pictures below.
Late Night with David Letterman band leader Paul Shaffer shared an endearing video of his adopted canine cuties in honor of National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. The video is an extension of the Humane Society’s larger Shelter Pet Adoption campaign, meant to alter people’s awareness about shelter animals and increase pet adoptions. Watch Paul Shaffer and his daughter below.
Ladies everywhere can now wear their most lusty-worthy looks without worrying about those pesky panty-lines! Shibue® Couture’s strapless panties offer the perfect solution for those snug silhouettes! There’s a sticky adhesive on both sides, which makes for easy application. And did I mention they can be washed and worn again (commando is so last season)?! I got handed these haute helpers in a gift-bag at a runway show and after donning them seamlessly under my Herve Leger dress, I knew I had to reach out to their creators. It’s a simple solution for a long-standing problem, and I now own many. Pick up your pair by clicking HERE.
It’s twice as nice with Jennifer Lopez’s denim-on-demin power-pairing. The casual-cool diva sported a street-chic look, flaunting her tight tummy and Sunday Somewhere glasses as she strutted her stuff on set of American Idol.
Top designers around the world debuted their Spring 2014 Collections at New York Fashion Week, and they certainly brought their A game. Enjoy some of my favorite styles below.
“I believe if you’re meeting someone for dinner, you dress smartly to show that you respect them. I absolutely think that dressing well is an expression of manners. I think dressing well on an airplane is an expression of manners, too.” Tom Ford, on his reasons for never wanting to see me on an airplane.
Kelly Osbourne made a strikingly good criticism about Lady Gaga’s new look, claiming she blatantly ripped it off from ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.’ It’s shockingly on point. Watch below.
Hollywood’s heavy hitters made a red-carpet appearance for Relativity Media’s ‘Paranoia.’ The film hits theaters August 16th. Check out some of my favorite photos below.
Call me heartless, but isn’t orange the worst hue for Lindsay’s Lohan’s comeback conversation? Since she’s had some trouble with the law, the closeup causes a not so friendly reminder. As for the interview itself, here’s hoping this isn’t another empty proclamation of recovery. I’m always rooting for a good turn-around. Watch a preview of Oprah’s interview, which will air August 18th.
Former Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky stayed true to her energetic personality with fresh floral jeans during an event for Desiree’s season of ABC’s long-running show. Pick up her David Kahn’s HERE if you’re interested in the feminine style.
The stars shined bright for Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine premiere at the the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. I’m told that the deserts were provided by The ONE Group and drinks were provided by Russian Standard Vodka.

If a franchise works, you might as well do it six times. Enjoy images from the sixth installment of The Fast & The Furious. The film is set for release on May
The stars came out for the latest installment of the Star Trek enterprise, and they sure look good (see the very yummy Chris Pine below). The film is set for release May 17. Enjoy the photos from their world travels.
The North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System held its Destination Celebration spring gala on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York City. Hosted Meredith Vieira and Bravo’s Andy Cohen, the evening included a performance by Harry Connick Jr. and a fireworks show on the Hudson. As The nation’s third-largest, non-profit, secular healthcare system, the evening successfully raised over $21 million for the health system that annually serves 4 million patients across the greater New York area. Enjoy some red carpet pictures below.
My friend over at My Pin Money Fashion sent me this look, with a very hilarious caption about where the girl is going. So where will she wear this? To make her ex-boyfriend jealous, of course. And it doesn’t even break the bank!
The stars came out to NYC’s Bowery Hotel in honor of famed photographer Annie Leibovitz for the US Launch of “The Macallan Masters of Photography: Annie Leibovitz Edition.” Check out some pictures below.

Perfection. Imagination. RuPaul.
When people ask me for my favorite celebrity style-icon, I always answer with Gwen Stefani. Though I love Jennifer Lopez, Stefani doesn’t just pick the right clothes, she styles it perfectly. As for what she was wearing on Good Morning America, it’s an OLIMA red frame top and Fendi pants — and calf-length Dr. Martin boots. It’s genius!

When people tell me they don’t understand fashion, I tell them they don’t understand art. And to gain a better understanding of what I mean, please visit the de Young Museum in San Francisco to see “The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk.” The exhibit is open until August 19th, and it features some very interesting mannequins that Gaultier designed with the Ubu Compagnie de Création theater company. You’ll see the timeline of his designs, along with sketches and videos from concerts that featured his work, most notably Madonna. Watch below to preview the exhibit

Though I’m not usually Gisele fan, I am making an exception for her Vogue Brazil cover, which is especially brilliant. It’s inspired by street art, and I imagine it’s close to the Brazilian model’s heart. Her pregnancy sure isn’t slowing her down.
‘Slumdog Millionaire’ beauty covered the August issue of Flaunt Magazine, and she can be seen in the picture below wearing Parasuco Jeans. I’m told that the fall line for the Canadian based brand “will be influenced by a contemporary take on underground London street life combined with metropolitan chic influences.” No word yet on who made the oil for her shot, but she sure looks shiny.
Though I realize the ridiculousness of a teenage-engagement, my love for fashion made me delighted to get an email with sketch ideas for Miley Cyrus’ wedding dress. See the dresses below, combined with quotes from each designer explaining the inspiration.
“This gown that I created complements the more whimsical and bohemian style that match her casual country aesthetic while mixing in elements like cut-outs and lace that reflect the more sophisticated style she has been rocking lately on the red carpet.”
“Miley has a personal approach to fashion which is bold and I wanted to reflect that. She has transitioned into a beautiful young woman and this silhouette is perfect for her. The vintage style of the beadwork paired with the modern application of the skirt gives the gown a youthful yet romantic tone”. —ANNE BARGE
“Miley Cyrus style has evolved. We have seen her grow on the red carpet. We were inspired by her new sophisticated confidence. We think she’ll want to continue her sexy style but with classic touches. Peplums are huge right now. This silhouette is borrowed from the couture runways, they add structure and shape to the dress. Agua Dulce silk sweetheart neckline dress with structured peplum bodice. Soft Chantilly lace details with pearl and sequin embroidery throughout. Mermaid skirt.” — designer MARIANA AGUIRRE of Agua Dulce
‘Miley is so fresh and young with a bubbly personality—this gown will highlight her curves yet give her a modern air of sophistication and elegance on her wedding day.’ —JUNKO YOSHIOKA
“Miley has always chosen elegant and classic gowns for her red carpet appearances. I see her choosing a style that expresses her personal style and fashionable taste but still keeping it elegant and tasteful. “ –Ines Di Santo
‘Since Miley is a young bride, I could see her wanting a fairytale ball gown style dress. The look I sketched for her is bold and extravagant leaving no detail overlooked.’ –ANGEL RIVERA
It’s not possible to explain in words how sick I am of Marilyn Monroe. She’s become the party guest that you can’t escape. In fact, I wonder if her spirit is dancing to Gotye’s “Somebody I Used to Know” in celebration of over-exposure. Seriously, Vanity Fair — please get more creative the next time around. This is the third time in five years she’s been on your cover.
Kate Moss is one of my favorite models. And Vogue is one of my favorite magazines. Click here to see their full collaboration, and look below to see, “Jamie and Kate channel a modern-day Mick and Bianca Jagger, re-creating the couple’s 1971 backseat wedding portrait by royal photographer Lord Lichfield.”
Isabel Toledo appeared on The View to promote her new collection, and she hit it out of the park. She shot to super-stardom when she dressed Michelle Obama for President Obama’s inauguration and she certainly has the design-chops for a long-sustaining career. She doesn’t really need my promotion, but I have to give credit where credit is due. Watch below.
I love curvy women. In fact, all of my celebrity girl-crushes have curves (see Selma Hayek & Jennifer Lopez). I’m not sure when it became hot for a woman to look like a little boy, but it’s gross, and it should end. And though I walk out of the room backwards when there’s a man in my bed, the Plus Model Magazine images below have certainly helped with my process. Look below to see America’s Next Top Model contestant, Katya Zharkova, posing naked in heels, and click here to read some startling statistics about the modeling industry.
There’s something fundamentally cheesy about celebrities who model their own clothing. And when that clothing is lingerie — it’s even worse. To top it off, the Kardashian girls are practically unrecognizable in their ad. They are so heavily airbrushed they border on cartoon characters. Did I mention they’re orange? I realize this is how it’s done now, but it’s ridiculous.
There’s a girl on the cover of Ocean Drive Magazine who claims to be Nicole Richie, but I’m not so sure. In fact, the image is so heavily airbrushed it looks like a cartoon character. I certainly love Nicole Richie, and I think she’s beautiful. I’m just wondering where she is.
Cindy Crawford rightfully decided not to whore-out her ten year old daughter to the fashion world. Though her daughter recently modeled Versace’s children’s line, Crawford said, “At this point, she’s too young to pursue a career. There aren’t even a handful of jobs for a 10-year-old girl.” This is good news. I was actually pretty disgusted by the photos from the Versace line, because no one wants to see a sexualized 10 year old. Perhaps Crawford should have a conversation with Kris Jenner.
When Jean Paul Gaultier paid “tribute” to Amy Winehouse during Paris Fashion Week, Winehouse’s family was not pleased. Her father said, “It portrays a view of Amy when she was not at her best, and glamorizes some of the more upsetting times in her life.” Though I love Jean Paul Gaultier and I thought the fashion show was extraordinary, I agree that it bordered on bad taste. Most people remember Amy Winehouse’s fashion choices during her least stable time period. And in hopes of remembering her when she was at her best, I’ve posted a vintage interview below. And as an aside — Amy Winehouse was fucking brilliant. To see pictures from the fashion show, click here.
Though my older brother will never admit it, I taught him how to tie his shoes. After all, women are smarter than men, right? But after watching the video below, it appears I taught him incorrectly. Thanks to Terry Moore and TED, my shoelaces will never come untied again. Watch and enjoy.
When I saw Lane Crawford’s “The Pinnacle of Style” ad campaign, I had to post it. It’s astoundingly beautiful. To see the rest of the images, click here.

How many Kardashian sisters does it take to screw in a light bulb? I’m not sure why that’s a relevant question, nor am I sure why it’s necessary to go topless to model a denim line. Sure it draws attention to the denim, or their boobs — whatever strikes your fancy. But the idea of using sex to sell clothes is dated and boring. Plus, there’s an age shelf life on this tactic, and unless they start planning their transition now — I imagine they’ll be at a complete loss very soon.
I have a very fashionable gay friend who insists that a woman should never wear flats — under any circumstances.
