Melissa Etheridge v. Angelina Jolie: Defends Brad Pitt

Written by , Posted in General

Melissa Etheridge visited Andy Cohen and revealed some striking details about former friend Brad Pitt, with whom she had a personal relationship. Etheridge sang at Pitt’s wedding to Jennifer Aniston and was also friends with Lauren Dern when Jolie began dating Billy Bob Thornton. At the time, Thornton was engaged to Dern and he left her for Jolie. According to Dern, she “left [their] home to work on a movie, and while [she] was away, [her] boyfriend got married, and [she] never heard from him again.” Dern likened it to a “sudden death.” Etheridge revealed that she had to help Dern break into her home to retrieve her possessions as things turned very nasty. She now hopes Pitt will resume their relationship, and she also said that he has not spoken to many of his close friends in nearly 10 years. Listen to the interview below. It’s startling.

Kim Kardashian Robbed at Gunpoint: Here Are My Thoughts

Written by , Posted in General

Image via Kim Kardashian

I know plenty of rich people, and none of them walk around wearing an engagement ring worth $4 million. First, it’s a tacky display of wealth. Second, it’s an aesthetic miss. Bigger isn’t always better, and at some point you move away from the beauty of the bauble. Lastly, it’s dangerous. Though Kim Kardashian is surrounded by security, the recent ass-kissing incident proves that she’s not as protected as she’d like to think. If that prankster had a knife, he’d have enough time to stab her. Her bodyguard pulled him to the ground, but not before he severely invaded her space.

When Kim Kardashian was tied up and robbed at gunpoint in her hotel room in Paris, many asked about her bodyguard. Kardashian won’t place blame, saying he was with her sisters instead and she felt completely safe in the comfort of her hotel room. Should the bodyguard have pushed to stay with Kardashian or asked for extra security? She’s not the First Lady, but it’s a thought worth entertaining. Many have also questioned whether this was an “inside job,” given the professional nature of the hit, the knowledge of her solitary status, and the timing. But one doesn’t need to look far to discover the right time and place to access her treasure trove since she documents nearly her entire life on social media. To quote legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld, “You cannot display your wealth and then be surprised that some people want to share it with you.”

I’m not blaming the victim, but she should consider this a blessing in disguise. She was not hurt, her children were not present, and the perpetrators were exclusively after her jewels. Perhaps she will learn a lesson. Her brand is about excess, but in this case, the price of fame is too high.

Solange Releases “Don’t Touch My Hair” Video — Stunning Masterpiece

Written by , Posted in General

Music influencers have long suggested that Solange’s talent far exceeds Beyonce’s, and Beyonce’s on-the-pulse take on pop-culture topics is perhaps secretly driven by her sister’s vision. Translation? Beyonce rides the trend, and Solange sets it. If you’re looking to verify that theory, you need not look far. Solange’s new album ‘A Seat at the Table’ debuted on Sunday. Her video for “Don’t Touch My Hair,” is below. Be prepared to marvel at its beauty.

Britney Spears Visits Jonathan Ross — Watch Now

Written by , Posted in General

One thing is clear from Britney Spears’ interview with Jonathan Ross, and it’s that the pop princess is very shy. Though she starts off extremely stiff with one-word answers, Ross’ kind disposition relaxed her, and it resulted in a very funny story about her friend who set her up with a “guy that looks like a lizard.” Among the other revelations, one involves her receiving a contact high from her audience and her son’s keen musical ear. It’s pretty interesting that she agreed to a talk on his couch considering she’s notoriously uncomfortable in a long-form Q&A. Watch below.

Quote of the Day: Miley Cyrus v. Mariah Carey

Written by , Posted in General

miley-cyrus-elle-magazine

“I’ve never really been a fan, because it’s so much about Mariah Carey. That’s part of her shtick; I can see through that. It’s about what she’s wearing, and it’s about her. What I make isn’t about me. It’s about sharing my story; it’s about someone being connected to what I’m saying.” Miley Cyrus on Mariah Carey during an interview with Elle Magazine where she once again proved that she’s most interesting when critiquing other artists.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back — Watch New Trailer Now

Written by , Posted in General

Paramount Pictures released the new trailer for Jack Treacher: Never Go Back, and though I’m not a fan of this franchise, I always welcome a Tom Cruise action flick, as we call should. As for this installment, Army Major Susan Turner (Cobie Smulders), who heads Reacher’s old investigative unit, is arrested for Treason, and Reacher bids to prove her innocence and to uncover the truth behind a major government conspiracy involving soldiers who are being killed. This is based on author Lee Child’s 18th novel in the best-selling Jack Reacher series, that has seen 100 million books sold worldwide. Enjoy the silly trailer below. The film opens nationwide on October 21, 2016.

Angelina Jolie v. Brad Pitt: A Look at a Romance Gone Wrong

Written by , Posted in General

No one was more surprised about the demise of Brangelina than myself. First, they did seem in love. Second, they had six kids, and one would think they’d work through their issues. Third, they have openly declared their love, most notably after Angelina Jolie underwent surgery to remove her ovaries and breasts in a preemptive effort to avoid cancer. And lastly, their relationship began with an affair, and though that is no indicator of long-lasting love, I simply assumed that if Mr. Smith wanted to leave America’s Sweetheart for Mrs. Smith, he’d have a damn good reason. And speaking of America’s Sweetheart, her new Prince Charming had something poignant to say, with Justin Theroux explaining that “As a child of divorce, all I can say is that’s terrible news for those children.” As for Jennifer Aniston, she has remained silent, but the meme-sphere is on overdrive, and the general implication is that Brangelina got what they deserved. After all, didn’t they endlessly brag about falling in love on set while Pitt was in fact married to another women? And let’s not forget their W Magazine spread touting their fake family in the name of art.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were a notoriously private couple. They had an air-tight team who never leaked stories, leading tabloids to use their typical guesses, such as “they’re on the verge of splitting,” with no additional details. At some point everyone is on the verge of splitting, so the more darts you throw, the more likely you are to ultimately hit a target. But now that they’re actually splitting, the leaks have become Niagara Falls.Suddenly Brad Pitt is an angry drunk that got physical with the children who are “now recovering” from an incident on a plane. The shocking revelation has one purpose and one purpose only: to tank his career. It serves her no favor in court, and it certainly is not helpful to the children, who now have an even more focused lens on their lives. Why does the public need to know about their personal problems? If the children need to be protected from their father, then keep that private. It also doesn’t help Angelina’s PR, because we all remember the pre-charitable woman who wore those vials of blood and said off-color remarks in nearly every interview. It’s possible she did not want to be blamed for the breakup, but this isn’t the way to circumvent that scrutiny. In fact, it escalates it.

Tabloids have long speculated that when Brad Pitt took up with Angelina, he lost all his friends, stopped filming sex scenes as per her demand, and used his nice-guy demeanor to make up for her cold temperament that was often noticed on the red carpet. George Clooney’s shocked reaction to the news of their split further confirms his estrangement with Brad, despite the fact that tabloids often tout the twosome as good friends. As for his non-public friends, who knows. All we know is that six children are in the mix, and I’m confused as to why Pitt’s perilous temperament didn’t surface earlier, perhaps before child number 3, 4, 5, or 6. For two people who once loved each other, one would think they could handle this with a tad more grace, integrity, and respect. I often tell people to leave their relationships with the same dignity with which they entered it. But since their relationship began sans dignity, perhaps they should have taken the opposite of my advice this one time.

Designated Survivor — A Full Review

Written by , Posted in General

The term “Designated Survivor” is used to describe an individual in the presidential line of succession who is in a protected, off-site location while the country’s top leaders are gathered in a single area. Given a catastrophe, the designated survivor would become the acting President (assuming there are no survivors higher in the line of succession). In history, designated survivors have included, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Secretary of Agriculture, Secretary of Transportation, Attorney General, etc . . .
In the new ABC drama starring Keifer Sutherland, an explosion during the State of the Union address claims the lives of everyone in the cabinet except for U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Tom Kirkman, who has been named the designated survivor. He’s winded by the revelation, which immediately uproots his family, who had just the day before anticipated an potential move to Canada and the loss of Kirkman’s job. Going from nearly losing one’s job to running the free world is jarring, but Kirkman almost immediately rises to the challenge. It’s clear from the outset he will have trouble earning respect, especially since his temperament is more calculated, and less retaliatory than others desire in time of national crisis.
It goes without saying that Keifer Sutherland is a compelling leading man who is more than capable of carrying a series. In fact, he comes with a trustworthy brand identity given his impressive choice of roles. And while I liked the pilot, I’m curious to see if there’s enough room to move. First, once Tom Kirkman is named the President, the series becomes a show about a President, and the concept becomes less interesting. Is it just West Wing with the country under attack? Second, I’d have gone a different route entirely and made this series more like Uncle Buck/King Ralph minus the silly. Perhaps if the designated survivor was a lovable fumbler who was slow to adjust but secretly smart, we might be more interested in his journey. The jury’s out, but I’ll definitely tune in next week.

‘Bull’ on CBS — A Full Review

Written by , Posted in General

bull-cbs

Audiences are only willing to accept an arrogant protagonist when it’s earned. We’ve seen it with Hugh Laurie’s character in house, with Benedict Cumberbatch’s stint as Sherlock Holmes, with Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, etc. It can be done, but when done wrong, we’re got that smarmy guy in the bar that’s quest for cool stature leaves him drinking alone, putting off every person who dare take the stool beside him. Unfortunately, “Dr. Bull” won’t be buying us a drink anytime soon, because Michael Weatherly falls flat in this leading role.

Weatherly is not to blame for this high-concept catastrophe. It’s a product of a bloated creative process and way too much unnecessary money  used to impress its audience. As a lawyer, I was excited for Bull. Since the end of The Good Wife, I’ve ached for another law-related show, and the idea of analyzing the jury pool or investigating clues associated with a trial seemed original. Here; however, we’ve got a leading man who likely charges his clients extraordinary amounts of a money for detective work that leaves us feeling that we might have overpaid for ‘Bull.’ To be fair, it’s only the pilot, and pilots are traditionally a struggle and an ill representation of what’s to come. Here’s hoping that’s the case for this show. My advice? Cut back the money and invest in some smarter scenarios that prove ‘Bull’ is worth his hefty fee.
