Music Spotlight: Sam Lewis

It’s hard to believe I have not heard of Sam Lewis, especially since he’s connected to The Wood Brothers (an all-time favorite band of mine). Oliver Wood of The Wood Brothers acted as producer on his second album, ‘Waiting on You,’ which he released in April, 2015. It featured Kenny Vaughan, in addition to Darrell Scott, Gabe Dixon, the McCrary Sisters, and Willie Nelson’s legendary harmonica player, Mickey Raphael. And if that’s not enough, he opened for Chris Stapleton during Stapleton’s tour for his Grammy-Willing ‘Traveler’ album. Three years have since passed, and he’s returned with ‘Loversity,’ which landed him on Rolling Stone’s “10 Artists to Watch” list. Listen below.

John Cena Wants Nikki Bella Back – Good Luck

John Cena’s public plea to win back Nikki Bella continues, and this time around he seems to be getting it right. Instead of offensive inspirational posts about pushing through the hard times, he’s made it clear he’s in pain. If you’re wondering why I deem inspo posts offensive, it’s because one would like to imagine their former fiance is experiencing equal pain, instead of simply adding you to their ex-files as another character building learning experience. And if you’re also wondering why Bella left Cena in the first place, all you have to do is watch his interview tour while promoting ‘Blockers,’ which often involved lengthy monologues about how much work his relationship was, as if he was doing Bella a favor by begrudgingly walking down the aisle. Bella obviously decided that she’d rather not drag him down the plank to his demise, and instead called things off. Good luck, Cena.

Gallant Releases New Video, “Doesn’t Matter” — Watch Now

On the heels of his upcoming headline tour, Gallant has released his new video for “Doesn’t Matter,” and the result is spectacular. You might remember Gallant from his duet with Seal, where the two vocal titans sang “Weight in Gold” in one of the most stunning performances I’ve seen in some time. The song first dropped on Beats 1’s first “World Exclusive,” via tastemaker Zane Lowe.

Christopher Gallant is a Columbia native who graduated from NYU, and his debut studio album, ‘Ology,’ was released worldwide in 2016. That followed his self-released 2014 EP, ‘Zebra.’ His popular ‘In The Room‘ series is also not to be missed.

Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith’s Ex Have a “Red Table Talk”

Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith were always ahead of the curve when it came to co-parenting. In fact, Bruce Willis once credited Will Smith for Willis’ acceptance of Ashton Kutcher (Demi Moore’s then husband), saying, “[Will] gave me the best advice. [He said] you’ve got to let the kids know it’s okay for everyone to be together. And it’s worked . . . . I’m honestly great friends with Ashton. We just hit it off and I think he has a great sense of humor.”

Jada just upped the game with the debut episode of her Facebook talk show Red Table Talk, where she sat down with Will Smith’s ex-wife, Sheree Fletcher, with whom she co-parents Will’s son Trey. The two recounted some heated growing pains during the initial stages of their relationship, and they were brutally honest about their mistakes. Kudos to these women for displaying a very honest model for others to follow.

Snow Patrol Debuts New Record at the Fonda

It’s been seven years since Snow Patrol released a new album, and on May 25, the Gary Lightbody led Northern Irish rock band will release ‘Wildness,’ and since one song is better than the next, I predict it will resonate with their loyal fan base. Lightbody took the stage of The Fonda alongside Nathan Connolly (guitar, backing vocals), Paul Wilson (bass guitar, backing vocals), Jonny Quinn (drums), and Johnny McDaid (piano, guitar, backing vocals) to play to a packed house. You might know Johnny McDaid as one of the powerful co-writing forces behind Ed Sheeran, P!nk, Robbie Williams, and more. McDaid is also the man who hilariously gave Lightbody an assist on stage that night, when Lightbody struggled to remember some lyrics, making for an enjoyable human connection with his fans.

I was personally introduced to Snow Patrol via ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ when the second single from their fourth studio album, “Chasing Cars,” became a massive success. The band would either be incredibly happy or incredibly annoyed to hear that, but I predict the latter. “Chasing Cars” spent 85 weeks on the UK charts, and though Lightbody feared that “the song could become bigger than the band” it’s clear from the devoted crowd that that is far from the truth.

For a band that “spent ten years making records that 6,000 people bought,” according to Lightbody, it’s no secret why they take nothing for granted, and even when Lightbody boasted their new album being “f***ing great,” it was more a funny acknowledgment of a factual truth then a rock star’s masturbatory boast.

Kim Kardashian Speaks About Tristan Thompson Scandal

The Kardashians might be the only reality television family that become MORE authentic in the spotlight. If you watch season one of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, you’ll notice a very fame-hungry family, but as time marches on, they seem to be settled in what’s become a platform to promote their brand. And speaking of brands, hearing that Tristan Thompson cheated on Khloe Kardashian just days before giving birth, certainly didn’t help promote a family unit. But leave it to Kim Kardashian to beautifully summarize the debacle, by simply saying, “It’s so f*cked up.” Watch below.

Tristan Julie Chen Supports Parental Alienation?

It’s been widely reported that Khloe Kardashian was cheated on by Cleveland Cavaliers player Tristan Thompson just days prior to the birth of their first child. It’s also common knowledge that when Tristan and Khloe’s romance began, Thompson’s ex-girlfriend was pregnant. While the timeline is not clear, it’s fair to assume an overlap of some kind. Almost everyone has an opinion, and most of those opinions involve the narrative that since Khloe previously married an unfaithful basketball player, it stands to reason she should not have played that same game twice. While I agree that the Kardashian clan might invite the wrong types of men into their romantic lives, I don’t think that’s is Khloe’s particular problem. She consistently puts her own life aside to play Susie Housewife to her partner. And she isn’t Susie Housewife. Khloe Kardashian is an empowered multi-millionaire, based in Los Angeles, who has started an empire. In fact, she deserves a devoted house husband, not an entitled NBA basketball player in his twenties who has yet to sow his oats. I respect the idea of prioritizing our personal lives over our professional ones, but that’s not what’s going on here. She’s completely changing her life to accommodate someone else, and she’s done it far too many times to not learn a lesson.

Now for Julie Chen. It’s worth mentioning that her analysis on the subject is abhorrent and dangerous. When discussing it on The Talk, Chen said, “If I were Khloe Kardashian, I would completely ice him, change all my numbers. I would not let him have any access to the child and I would raise the child by myself with my family and tell the child, your father is dead.” That’s called parental alienation, and infidelity doesn’t justify it.

American Idol Duets — Catie Turner Wins the Night

For a duet to work, both singers must not only compliment one another, but their fusion must outweigh their solo skill set. For most of the performers during American Idol’s duet week, that was not the case. To be fair, I can’t think of one person who would duet with Jennifer Nettles, given the incredibly unique tone of her voice, but Gabby Berrett and the adorable Layla Spring get an A+ for effort. And Nettles’ standout style choices certainly did not help facilitate a shared spotlight. Having said all that, Catie Turner won the night during her duet with Andy Grammer. The endearingly awkward singer somehow managed to put all that angst aside while performing, having made very confident vocal choices that actually upped Grammer’s game. In fact, he might have benefited far more from that performance than she did. Could Catie actually make a career out of this? It’s possible. She’s like a joyful version of Brett Dennen, and I think there’s a space for her in this industry.

Watch below to see some of the more memorable performances, including Allen Stone, whose voice is so good it physically hurts my soul. Dennis Lorenzo gets major kudos for keeping up.
