Idol’s Phillip Phillips Sings “Still Rainin” — Wins the Night

Though it was a close call between Colton Dixon and Phillip Phillips on last night’s American Idol, Phillip Phillips won by a nose. And Stevie Nicks is right — he sure is good-looking. Plus, he can sing, and he has an unmatchable stage presence. That’s the type of thing you just can’t teach. Watch below.

Colton Dixon Sings “Everything” — Awesome

I started watching this season of American Idol very late in the game, and it became immediately clear that Colton Dixon and Phillip Phillips are the front-runners. On tonight’s show, Colton Sang “Everything” by Lifehouse — and he was incredible. It’s also worth pointing out that Randy Jackson gave his first valuable comment since the show began, saying, “One of the most important things an artist can have is believability.” He’s right. It doesn’t matter what note you can hit, it matters if you’re authentic. And Colton Dixon is authentic.

‘American Idol’s’ Colton Dixon Sings Piano Man — Best Performance

Colton Dixon is the only contestant on American Idol worth talking about. He gave Billy Joel’s “Piano Man” a unique twist, and he managed to circumvent the Karaoke-driven performances of the other contestants. Watch below.

Phillip Phillips Throws Away Steven Tyler’s Scarf — NO!!!!!

Here at The Dishmaster, I try to abide by the long-standing principle, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.” But today I will make an exception for Mr. Phillip Phillips, who quite possibly made the worst move in American Idol history. Allow me to explain. After Phillip Phillips’ performance, the judges commented on his grey-on-grey attire. Steven Tyler attempted to help him out by generously giving him his own scarf. So what did Phillips do with this valued possession? He threw it back into the audience to a group of screaming chicks! Excuse me!??? Doesn’t your father own a pawn shop!!!! The scarf belonged to Steven Tyler! He’s only one of the biggest legends in the history of music. He should have sold it and pocketed the money!! Who knows how long this American Idol fame will last?

American Idol Producers Confront Jermaine Jones On Air — Immoral?

This post is difficult to write because of my Dishmaster bias. I’ve met Nigel Lythgoe, and he’s one of the coolest, nicest guys in this business. That being said, I think he made the wrong decision in airing his conversation with Jermaine Jones. It’s absolutely disgusting to take a troubled kid and expose his dirty laundry on a national forum in what was akin to a cross-examination. This should have taken place off the air. It’s too personal, and there comes a point where it’s more important to be a human being than a producer. Watch below.

Jennifer Lopez Cries Over Jeremy Rosado on American Idol’s Top 12 — Unprofessional?

Jennifer Lopez picked Jeremy Rosado as her wild card during Thursday’s “Top 12” episode of American Idol, and the decision involved a lot of crying. Perhaps I’m an insensitive prick, but aren’t all these talent-show-tears a little unprofessional? It’s a competition show! Buck up! If the judges can’t compose themselves, how will the contestants? I’ve attached the clip below, followed by the very famous scene from A League of Their Own when Tom Hanks says, “There’s no crying in baseball!”

‘The Voice’: Did Adam Levine Abandon Javier Colon?

NBC has two seasons to make the winners of The Voice into huge stars and after that, they will lose all credibility. American Idol may be threatened by The Voice, but Idol has made some of the biggest stars in history and it is therefore more than just a talent show. So this brings me to a very important question: What happened to Javier Colon? Where is he? Why isn’t he booked on late night shows singing a hit single? When is his album coming out? And most importantly — why the fu*k isn’t Adam Levine doing anything to propel his career? Adam appeared on Howard Stern yesterday and mentioned Colon, saying that he’s trying to help him, and Colon is “struggling.” He also made a moderately condescending remark about how the winners have to take their career by the reigns after the show is finished. Perhaps he should look to Blake Shelton who took Dia Frampton on his tour. You don’t get to sit on your throne touting that you “won” season one, especially when the contestant you won with can’t sustain a career.

American Idol Debacle — Contestants Pass-Out, Faint Constantly

Either American Idol is depriving their contestants of oxygen, or the producers have a knack for choosing very dramatic people. Can someone please explain why every contestant seems mentally unstable? If you can’t hold it together during this phase of the competition, how exactly do you plan to be a star? One contestant actually left the rehearsal to call his mother from a hotel, and the conversation included at least fifty “I love yous.” Perhaps the contestants aren’t eating? Maybe the room is excessively hot? But if that’s true, then why do the judges look perfectly healthy? And did I mention that Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, and Randy Jackson have the worst taste in the history of the show? These singers are horrific.

Adam Lambert Joins Queen — Good Decision!

When Adam Lambert finished American Idol, rumors circulated that Queen asked him to join their band. But he chose a solo career instead, presumably because he wanted an independent career, which he thought would give him more industry longevity. But years later, he might have changed his mind. According to reports, he’s joining the band on their summer tour. Personally, I think this is something he should have done a long time ago, but better late than never. After all, when one of the world’s greatest bands in history asks you to be their lead singer, you accept. Watch him perform Bohemian Rhaphsody during his American Idol audition. He sure has come a long way.

Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger, & Steve Jones Fired from X Factor — Gasp!

Well, folks — it’s the time of year when The Dishmaster says, “I told you so.” According to reports, Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger, & Steve Jones have all been fired from X Factor (or as Hollywood puts it — their options were not picked up). Though I love to pat myself on my back, this prediction was an easy one. Jones received criticism for months and Scherzinger was not only a terrible host, but she also caused outrage for eliminating Rachel Crow. Also, Simon took a legitimate swipe at her on the air, which proved true the rumors of animosity. As for Paula Abdul, I’m sad to see her go, but it had to happen. Choosing her made the panel look like a poor man’s American Idol.
