Jim Breuer Calls Out Former ‘Saturday Night Live’ Writer Adam McKay

Jim Breuer added to his roster of hilarious appearances on Howard Stern today.  Of the many stories he told, my favorite involved his tumultuous relationship with former ‘Saturday Night Live’ head writer, Adam McKay.  Breuer recounted the many times that McKay nixed Breuer’s sketches with Tracy Morgan.  According to Breuer, McKay was threatened by his success on the show, and made it his mission to get him fired.  When Breuer received a private phone call from Lorne Michaels asking him to go to dinner and ‘make nice’ with McKay, he refused and was subsequently fired/quit.  Despite being infuriated by this story, it’s at least refreshing to hear that infighting and backstabbing exists no matter where you work.  We can all breathe a sigh of relief and stop dreaming of the days that we escape our “desk jobs.”  Oh yeah – Breuer also revealed that he, Tracey Morgan, and Colin Quinn, tried to gang rape Will Ferrell in an effort to get him to break character.  It didn’t work.  Ferrell stayed in character.

Tom Cruise and JLO Get Down and Dirty at the Mtv Movie Awards (Video)

It’s official.  We are can all start loving Tom Cruise again.  Cruise made an appearance at the Mtv Movie Awards as Les Grossman, his hilarious character from ‘Tropic Thunder.’  He was joined by Jennifer Lopez, who appropriately slapped his ass.  Watch below, and when you are done – I don’t want to ever hear a negative word about Tom Cruise again.  From here on out – the era of Cruise hating is over.

Sandra Bullock Accepts her Mtv Award – I’m in Love With Her (video)

Sandra Bullock continues to impress me.   All celebrities need to take a note out of Bullock’s PR handbook.  In her speech at the Mtv Movie Awards, she attacked this Jesse James thing head-on, which is the best way to make it go away.  She confirmed that she is “not dead” and that she is not taking an extended break from acting.  Oh yeah – and she admitted to having cellulite (which makes me very happy).  Watch the video below.  YOU GO, GIRL!

Hollywood Boulevard Comes to a Sad End – No More Superheroes

If you know anything about Hollywood Boulevard, you probably know that the prostitutes were replaced with superheroes – and now both are gone.  Police arrested the costumed characters in response to complaints that they were annoying tourists and local business owners by asking for money.  The Incredible Hulk, also known as Joe McQueen, insists that the crackdown is “un-American,” and I agree.  Many of these guys are struggling actors, and while I understand that the begging can get annoying, don’t they deserve some money for putting on such cool costumes?  Otherwise, how would we see Batman in person?

Tom Cruise Reprises Tropic Thunder Character for MTV Movie Awards (Video)

I know there are a lot of Tom Cruise haters in the world, but I happen to love him.  I think he’s brilliant, and the video below is evidence of that.  In the first video, Cruise plays Tropic Thunder’s Les Grossman, the disgusting studio exec that is lending his words of wisdom to Robert Pattinson.  The second video is even better.  Rumor has it that Cruise’s character in the film was modeled after Harvey Weinstein.

A New Show About "JAPS" is in the Works – I’m Offended

Shows based on offensive stereotypes never bothered me much – until now. Why? Because I’m jewish and they are making a show about “JAPS.” I’m admittedly a hypocrite.  I remember in college when my friend freely threw around the word “JAP.”  So when I told him it’s an offensive term, he turned to my Japanese roomate for confirmation that I was being ridiculous. I think you could guess her response.  Apparently I need to make some phone calls and explain to a few more people why that is a disgusting word.  An unnamed production company is in search of “super Jappy groups of friends” for a new reality show.  If you also feel the need to educate these producers, please email  info@jennhoffman.com.  I wonder if they made up that email address to dodge criticism.

Elizabeth Perkins is Leaving ‘Weeds’ – Say Goodbye to Celia Hodes

This news is devastating.  Elizabeth Perkins is leaving ‘Weeds’ to play James Marsden’s mother in ‘I Hop,’ a live-action CG-Animated comedy.  Good for her?  Perhaps I am biased since she is my favorite character on ‘Weeds,’ but I am not sure this is the best career move.  Television is a consistent, high-paying gig, and film roles are hard to land.  What will she do after this?  Couldn’t she do both?  I actually think the last season of the show was the best, so why jump ship now?  Maybe she’s sick of playing second fiddle to Mary Louise Parker.  Who knows.

Roman Polanski Releases Statement – Explains Why he Fled the United States

Roman Polanski released a relatively complex statement, so I’m going to try and break it down.  His main claim is that he already served his time.  He says that after he plead guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, he served time in a Chino prison, which was meant to cover the entirety of his sentence.  According to Polanski, the judge reversed the decision and claimed that he needed to serve more time – so he fled.  The documentary ‘Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired’ covered this story, and it confirms a lot of what Polanski is saying.  Both the District Attorney and Polanski’s defense attorney confirm the Judge’s erratic behavior and thirst for the media spotlight.  Regarding Polanski’s time in Chino, I think he is referring to the fact that when a case drags on, and a defendant is in prison awaiting trial, judges sometimes sentence you to “time already served.”  I guess Polanski was given the impression that this would happen when he plead guilty, and the Judge changed his mind.  Either way, I hope this case gets tossed for the sake of the victim, whose name gets dragged through the mud every time this comes out in the press.

Dancing with the Stars Beats American Idol Again

Sure they only won by about a million viewers, but that’s enough to signify what I think is the beginning of the end for the Idol powerhouse.  DWTS had 21.21 million viewers, while Idol had 20.84.  This doesn’t surprise me, given that this is the worst season of ‘American Idol’ in the history of the show.  The ship is sinking.  Maybe the judges were just too lazy this time around to pick a decent crop of kids for us to vote on.  Either that or Kara DioGuardi and this horrific four judge panel needs to be done with.
