No Doubt’s ‘Push and Shove” Cover Art Revealed

“It was a month and a half of non-stop work – barely sleeping, barely doing anything but just painting. It was an epic job for me. It’s a tricky photo-realistic way of painting the patterns because they have to look right up close but have a different experience when you look at them from far away. There was a lot of back and forth.” Los Angeles street artist, El Mac, on the process of making No Doubt’s cover art for their new album. According to Billboard, the “four custom portraits were photographed and then rendered manually into paintings.”

Is Theresa Guidice’s Husband Cheating? — Busted on Television?

After watching the clip below from Real Housewives of New Jersey, a few things went through my mind. Here they are in sequence:

1. If Theresa Guidice’s husband is cheating, shouldn’t he remove his microphone before calling his mistress?

2. If Theresa Guidice’s husband isn’t cheating, shouldn’t he remove his microphone before calling his wife a “cunt.”

3. If the clip is produced and therefore fake, who would sign up for that? No amount of money is worth the entire world thinking you’re a fool.

4. If the clip below isn’t produced and is therefore real, why wouldn’t she quit this show? This is too personal, and her children are involved.

5. Everyone will sell their soul for money.

Meryl Streep & Tommy Lee Jones Cover AARP

There’s not much to say about Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones other than they are two of my favorite actors in history. Read some choice quotes from their AARP Magazine interview to promote their new film, Hope Springs, opening this Friday.

On being “bored” in a relationship:

Streep: “If you’re bored with somebody, it’s because you’re bored with yourself. If you have a problem with somebody, often it’s something in yourself.”

Jones: “I always told my children when they whined….Only the boring are bored.”

On finding passion at any age:

Streep: “I find the older I get, the more intense my appetite for living and for appreciating life gets…You realize you’ve got just seconds.”

Jones: “I don’t do anything that is not fun. I just don’t do it. I’m a hedonist.”

On making marriage work:

Streep: “You live through all sorts of stuff when you’re in a long marriage: real highs and lows, and things that strain—and solidify—your relationship.”

On their fellow sexegenarians:

Streep: “I don’t think it’s unusual for my friends and people my age [to feel the way I do]. I only see bored 20-year-olds. I don’t see any bored 60-year-olds.”

On what drew them to Hope Springs:

Streep: “I like things that seem like they have a problem…Built into it was something really funny but lodged in something very real.”

Jones: “At long last, I had a chance to work with Meryl, so there was no question in my mind that I wanted to do it.”

On their prolific careers:

Streep: “I think there’s not a sell-by date on actors…But you also understand what a crapshoot it is and how serendipity plays a huge part. It’s not a piece of cake by any means.”

Jones: “I’ve been lucky-and happy. I’ve made some bad movies. And I really enjoyed it!”

On passing the acting torch to their children:

Streep: “I’m delighted that we can share some things and that I have some experience that can be of comfort to her.”

Jones: “It makes you feel good when your kids choose to do the thing that you do even as much as you come home and complain about it.”

On endlessly pursuing their passions:

Streep: “I like everything. There’s just not anything I don’t like to do. That’s the problem. It means I’m very distractible.”

Jones: “I like being a director, and I’m never going to stop being an actor.”

Kim Kardashian & Kanye West Promote VMAs — Watch

I’m pretty sure Kim Kardashian found her soul mate in Kanye West. They are both unafraid of the spotlight, and this time around Kim didn’t find someone using her to his own. Watch their promo for the VMAs below.

USC Law School v. Robert Kardashian: “He’s Not Invited”

When Robert Kardashian tweeted that he’d be attending law school in the fall, followed by, “#UniversityofSouthernCal #Trojans #FightOn,” I naturally assumed, like all media outlets, that the law school in question is USC. But not so fast. When USC got wind of Kardashian’s hashtag proclamation, they quickly spoke up, saying, “News to us. Wish him luck at the law school he’s really attending.” And there you have it. More twisted truths from the Kardashians.

Elton John on Madonna: “She Looks Like a Fairground Stripper”

“She’s such a nightmare. Her career is over. Her tour has been a disaster. She’s been so horrible to Gaga . . . . If Madonna had any common sense she would have made another Ray of Light, stayed away from the dance stuff, and just been a great pop singer and made great pop records, which she does brilliantly. But no. She had to prove that she was like . . . she looks like a fairground stripper.” Elton John on Madonna’s latest tour antics. Also — I’d like to take a moment to ask the question no one seems to have an answer to: What the FU*K happened between these two lunatics to justify this kind of vitriolic hatred?

Is Justin Bieber a Douchebag? — All Signs Point to Yes

Here at The Dishmaster, I make lots of predictions and then link to those posts at a later date to brag. So get ready for another one, because here goes: I predict Justin Bieber will spend himself into bankruptcy by the time he turns forty. Why? When asked about Prince William for the U.K.’s Rollercoaster magazine, Bieber commented on his hair loss, saying, “I mean, there are things to prevent that nowadays, like Propecia . . . . I don’t know why he doesn’t just get those things, those products. You just take Propecia and your hair grows back. Have you not got it over here?” Though I don’t wish him harm, he’s reeking of washed-up-child-star-syndrome. And we know how that story ends.

NBC Attacked Ann Curry’s Style? — Good Work

If fashion didn’t matter, then a lot of people would be out of work. Hear that Ann Curry? The former Today Show anchor had some key quotes exposed from her recent Ladies Home Journal interview, which apparently shed light on her squabbles with NBC. Curry said her bosses wanted her to die her grey hair, and despite their insistence that she wear heels, she wore “clogs and flats” instead. Also — she refuses to die her hair because she wants to “honor [her] family by looking exactly as they did as they got older.” Sigh . . . where do I begin? Before feminists everywhere wave their disapproving fingers in NBC’s face, I’d encourage them to wave it in Ann’s face instead. Workplace fashion exists everywhere, not just on The Today Show. And clogs are gross. If your going to be on a big time show — then dress like a big-timer.
