Taylor Swift’s “Lover” v. Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You”

It’s no secret I’ve been riding the Taylor Swift hate train for quite some time, but that doesn’t make me a “hater.” I’m just simply a longtime fan gone rogue after a series of unforgivable missteps. Aside from the usual complaints about her whoa-is-me/I’m-a-victim behavior, she’s released a new tune entitled “Lover” and it’s so clearly a rip-off off of Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You” my head might explode. Will she receive legal push-back? Probably not. To quote my friend, “It’s close, but it’s not close enough.” Listen below and judge for yourself.

  1. I immediately thought of Mazzy Star’s Fade Into You when I heard Taylor Swift’s lover. So close at the beginning then the song really changes. But I agree she ripped it off

  2. I thought it was just me thinking this, but then I googled it and came across your article. The similarities are stunning!

  3. Ugh, I’ve been racking my brain for the past hour trying to figure out what this song reminded me of and why no one was mentioning it in reviews, etc. I wonder too if anyone will mention it. I like both, but it should be noted that Taylor’s song is very much the same as ‘fade into you’

  4. I just found this googling “Taylor Swift Mazzy Star” because YES!!! I thought it sounded like Cry, Cry. The style is so similar ugh it makes me crazy. Also, I get Lana Del Rey vibes from one of the other tracks.

  5. Yes it is a total copy. I heard Taylors version and I was like that sounds like another song I know. So for a few days I’ve been trying to figure it out and I finally did. So then I googled mazzy star taylor swift and thank God other people agree with me. Total rip off, original song is better.

  6. I totally agree. In the beginning of the song “Love” with the tambourines sounds just like Mazzy Star “fade into you”

  7. Heard it for the first time today and had to Google it because CLEARLY I couldn’t be the only one thinking this. Even the tone of her voice is the same. UGH!!
