NBC’s ‘This Is Us’ has received serious buzz, and it’s deserved. I’ve yearned for a low-concept dramedy a la ‘Parenthood’ since it went off the air, and ‘This is Us’ fits the bill. The show stars Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz, Justin Hartley, Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan, and Ron Cephas Jones, who are all age 36 when we meet them. To quote series creator Dan Fogelman, 36 is an age that can look very different for everyone, with some our friends married, others with grown kids, some who are just about to walk down the aisle, etc. But at our core, we all want the same thing — to be happy. It’s nice to see a cast of all shapes, sizes, and colors, who are very relatable and whose lives seamlessly intertwine. It’s episode one, and I already feel like I know this group and love them. And kudos to casting for this lineup. It’s refreshing to see Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia push beyond their previous roles.
