So much for true love. The schmaltzy sweethearts that fell in love during Emily Maynard’s second try for a reality-television-relationship have officially ended their engagement. Here’s their statements.

20121012-151030.jpg“>Jef Tells People:

“Meeting Emily on The Bachelorette was an incredible experience, we’ve had quite the journey. I’ve never loved someone so much in my whole life, Emily is the best person and mom I have ever met. She opened up her world to me and I fell in love with her, [her daughter] Ricki, her family and the Hendricks.

“She has a great group of people who surround her. What we shared was completely genuine and real and it breaks my heart but we have decided to break up.

“Emily will always have a special place in my heart. I don’t regret a single second I spent with her or Ricki. They both have been a huge part of my life. Who knows what tomorrow will bring but we are moving on to the next chapter of our lives.

“Emily and I are great friends and I hope we can continue to be friends forever. Everyone wants a salacious story to break, but the truth is we are just two people who fell in love and tried our hardest to make it work. I will always love her.”

Emily Tells People:

“I am sorry to tell you that Jef and I have, indeed, parted ways,” Maynard says. “It was a very difficult and heartbreaking decision.

“As you know, at first I wasn’t sure that I should even be The Bachelorette, but I am a hopeless romantic and I do believe in the show. I have no regrets because I did find love and shared an incredible journey with a really special person – and you know what, we tried our best because the love between us was so real.

“I have nothing but respect and love for Jef and his family, but ultimately we are just at different points in our lives.

“I’ve learned so much and I’m grateful for all of the support I’ve received. I’m excited and hopeful for the next chapter in my life with my daughter, Ricki. I do hope that you will respect our privacy and allow us the time we need to heal.”

For once can someone actually give a tangible explanation as to what the hell happened? Until then, I’ll leave you with a quote from my very wise mother: “Relationships that start out hot-and-heavy never last.” And there you have it. The rose has wilted.

Emily Maynard Chooses Jef — Arie Moves On

I’m rooting for Jef and Emily, but I’ve been through too many failed relationships on this darn show to get overly excited. The most interesting part of the ‘After the Final Rose,’ was the revelation that Arie flew to Emily’s hometown to have a conversation with her off-camera, but he left his journal on her doorstep instead of seeing her. Maynard didn’t read the journal, and Arie rightfully said she should have rejected it upon arrival instead of leading him to believe she’d read it. Maynard confessed she’s not good at rejecting people, and she should have been more blunt, because she now knows it would have helped him move on. Though I felt terrible for Arie, something tells me he’ll be the next Bachelor. As for whether Jef and Emily will actually tie the knot, the Jane Austen in me is holding out a shred of hope. To be continued . . . .

The Bachelorette Men Tell All — Kalon’s Still a Douche — Or is He?

Once upon a time, after dating a guy for a few weeks, he invited me to his apartment. To avoid future awkwardness, I said, “Sure I’ll go. But just so we’re on the same page, I’m not having sex with you.” “Well forget it then,” he said. “I’m not interested in an old-fashioned courtship before I get laid.” So what’s the point of disclosing such personal Dishmaster details? In short, it’s to pose a question about whether Kalon is actually a douchebag for using the word “baggage” to define Emily Maynard’s daughter. Though he and my former date might need to revamp their verbal approach if they ever want a wife, there’s something admirable about brutal honestly.

Update: I forgot to mention Emily Maynard’s sassy response to Kalon’s comments. After Kalon apologized, Emily said, “You, my dear, should be a politician, because that’s the biggest load of **** I’ve ever heard,” followed by exposing his recent tweet, which repeated his original baggage comment. If only she showed this much personality on the actual show.

Quote of the Day: Emily Maynard Doesn’t Have “Baggage”

“I’d love to hear you talk, but not until I’m done. I got that line from you.” Emily Maynard’s line to Kalon shortly before kicking him out after finding out that he considers her daughter to be “baggage.” Watch the clip below.

Emily Maynard Debuts as The Bachelorette — Thought Brad Womack Would Appear

Everyone knows that when you’re not fully over a boy, you still hope that no matter how many phone calls and text messages you ignore, he’ll show up at your door holding a stereo over his head while blasting Peter Gabriel music. But they just don’t make Lloyd Dobler the way they used to. So when I read Emily Maynard’s recap of The Bachelorette and realized that she thought it might be Brad Womack in the helicopter, it occurred to me that she’s not fully over him. Sure she said she was “relieved” when she saw it wasn’t him — but us chicks will say anything to convince the world of our own denial.
