The ‘Hurt Locker’ is Under Attack

Recently, I was chatting with a close friend of mine, who returned not too long ago from serving our country in Afghanistan.  He saw my post about ‘Hurt Locker,’ and he went off.  He said that the film “is the worst portrayal of Explosive Ordinance Disposal teams that [he’s] ever seen.”  When I asked why, he said “they don’t just drive around alone like that and they sure as shit don’t drop all of their gear to dismantle a bomb.”  Well it turns out that my friend is not the only serviceman to feel this way.  Several active EOD serviceman have complained, saying that the main character is too “John Wayne like,” and his behavior would be akin to “a firefighter going into a building with a squirt bottle.”  To make matters worse, it has been revealed that the military adviser for the film decided not to work with the filmmakers after the Army was informed that certain scenes were being filmed that were not in the original script.  I suppose the Army did not want to be associated with a project that they did not have access to in its entirety.  Probably a wise choice.  The writer for the film is whining about artistic license.  I certainly believe in an imagination, just not when you portray a film to be accurate and the audience is mislead.  Especially with so important a topic.

Blockbuster is Charging Late Fees Again

Remember the glorious olden days when blockbuster was a monopoly, and they would charge you over a $100 for that forgotten DVD that fell under your bed?  Well, blockbuster is bringing those dreaded late fees back.  To clarify, it is not quite the nightmare from the past.  They are reducing the rental period from 7 days to 5 days, and charging $1 per day for 10 days.  As a sidenote, Netflix is doing better than ever.

Dancing With the Stars Reveals Partners

I am pretty excited about this.  I was initially a little disappointed by the star selection, but now that they are paired up I am looking forward to it.  Personally, I am rooting for Maksim this year.  He’s never won and he’s pretty to look at, so I want him there as long as possible.  Here is the lineup:
Kate Gosselin & Tony Dovolani
Pamela Anderson & Damian Whitewood
Chad Ochocino & Cheryl Burke
Shannen Doherty & Mark Ballas
Nicole Scherzinger & Derek Hough
Niecy Nash & Louis Van Amstel
Evan Lysacek & Anna Trebunskaya
Aiden Turner & Edyta Sliwinska
Buzz Aldrin & Ashley Costa (formerly DelGrosso)
Erin Andrews & Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Jake Pavelka & Chelsie Hightower

James Cameron Screens Avatar for the Troops

Is there anything that this guy does not think of?  James Cameron, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Michelle Rodriguez, flew to Bahrain to screen Avatar for the United States military.  Cameron’s brother is an ex-marine.  Cameron stated that this was a “once-in-a-lifetime experience” and “to do something for the men and women who serve our country was a great privilege.”

Gossip Girl Update: Will Billy Baldwin be a Series Regular?

Gossip Girl is one week away and the spoilers just keep on coming!  Billy Baldwin will appear on the show as Serena’s dad.  The show was courting him for quite some time, but Baldwin turned them down until they had a juicier part for him to play.  Looks like he may be on the show for a while.  This makes me very happy!

‘Glee’ is Going on Tour

This show sure is successful.  The cast of Glee will tour four cities and sing hit songs from the show.   Before you start running to buy tickets though, keep in mind that the great Matthew Morrison/’Mr. Schuster’ will not be touring with the cast.  I think this tour will be incredible.  Most of the actors on the show have a musical theater background so it only makes sense to do a stage production.  Who can forget Lea Michele in Broadway’s ‘Spring Awakening?’  Listen to some great songs from the show below.

Jessica Simpson Will Finally Talk about John Mayer’s Playboy Interview

Rumor has it that Jessica Simpson and her family were ‘disgusted’ by John Mayer’s playboy interview, in which he compared having sex with her to drugs (that’s a compliment).  Personally, if a man went on the record discussing how good I am in bed, I don’t think I’d be too upset.  Then again, that “man” is John Mayer.  Enough said.  Simpson will finally talk about it on Oprah.  Click on the link to see the promo.
