Britney Spears Leaves X Factor to Pursue Music? — I Smell a Rat

20130110-105952.jpgDespite TMZ’s adamant insistence that Britney Spears decided to leave X Factor to pursue her music, I don’t buy it. I think she wasn’t asked back, and all associated teams have protected her integrity by saying otherwise. In short, she didn’t bring the expected ratings surge, and the cost of her contract exceeded her worth. While I liked her on the show, it would be nice to find someone who could actually deliver words of wisdom apart from “amazing” and “beautiful.” And before I get emails from insane Britney defenders, just know that I am a bigger fan than anyone else. This just wasn’t her forum.

Beatrice Miller v. Britney Spears — “You Picked A Boring Song”

Don’t bite the hand that feeds you, Beatrice. You’re thirteen and you’ll learn quickly. When asked about her X Factor performance of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time,” Beatrice said, “My song was really boring, and I’ve been telling Britney that from day one. She just said, ‘Get through it and try to connect with the song’. I don’t think it really mattered to her that I didn’t like it.” Perhaps Beatrice’s attitude explains her poor performance. Also — don’t insult the Princess of Pop — The Dishmaster won’t tolerate it.
I’m probably going straight to hell for picking on this kid though — especially since she’s putting food on her family’s table.

Britney Spears Photo-Bombs Justin Timberlake & Jessica Biel

20121025-141624.jpgI saw this title on another blog, and I had to rip it off. I didn’t even notice it until it was pointed out, but the idea of Britney Spears’ head floating over Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel on the cover of People Magazine makes me chuckle. She’s watching you, guys.

X Factor Premieres — Britney Spears Kills

I held my breath for this premiere. I hoped against hope that Britney Spears could hack it, because I desperately want to see her succeed. And she sure delivered. She was more likable than ever, giving her honest opinion while clearly empathizing with the contestants, especially while rejecting them. She’s obviously a star, but what makes her unique is that she doesn’t seem to know it. She seems shy and reserved, as if she got thrown into the judging process unsure that she could actually do it. She delivered my favorite line of the night when a contestant insulted Demi Lovato, speaking up in her defense, saying, “I want to know who let you onstage. I’m uncomfortable with you even looking at me.” As for the show itself, it’s clear they got the memo. This season is noticeably stronger, with very sharp editing tactics and a palpable sense of humor. Good job, guys. And good job, Britney.

Britney Spears & Simon Cowell on Ellen — Britney Looks Great

I was worried about Britney Spears joining X Factor, especially considering that she struggled with the first few tapings. But judging from the clip below, she’s going to be just fine. It also helps that she has Simon Cowell to carry her through any awkward silences. In fact, I get the feeling he’s moderately protective of the pop tart. Did I mention Britney looks great? Watch below.

Jamie Lynn Spears Sings a Song for Britney — “I Look Up to You”

I’ve always had a thing for Jamie Lynn Spears. Whenever she appeared in interviews, I found her to be the hotter sister with a better personality. That’s not to knock Britney, it’s merely to point out that I never understood why she didn’t also become a massive sensation. My guess is that she didn’t want it. I realize she got pregnant as a teen, but she always pursued a career outside of super-stardom. Sure she had a show on nickelodeon, but she only shot it for a portion of the year and then returned home for the rest of it. It appears she’s finally begun to dabble in a music career by performing songs at local Nashville venues. Watch her sing, ‘I Look Up to You.”

John Legend Insults Britney Spears & Demi Lovato — How Dare He?!

Though I try to avoid throwing daggers at celebrities, I’ll make an exception for John Legend — who deserves it. When asked for his thoughts on Britney Spears and Demi Lovato judging X Factor, Legend said, “It’s interesting when people are judging singing competitions when they aren’t really singers.” Here’s my message to John Legend — at least Britney is interesting to watch. I’ve seen Legend in concert, and I missed most of the show because his music put me to sleep.
