Leno Out, Fallon In? Late-Night Rumors Resurface

The Tonight ShowHere we go again. Rumor has it that NBC is looking to replace Jay Leno with Jimmy Fallon as the host of The Tonight Show when Leno’s contract expires in 2014. Though Leno still has competitive ratings, NBC allegedly fears that Kimmel is a strong contender for the coveted 18-34 market, and when Leno’s star fades, CBS might poach Kimmel if Letterman retires, which will tank NBC. Too confusing? Here’s a shorter summary: Leno has an expiration date, and NBC wants to stay ahead of the game before Kimmel becomes king.

While NBC needs a game plan, since they have yet to get a hit show on the air, my suggestion is that they find the right team of people to make creative decisions before they become doomed with another late-night debacle. The first one was embarrassing enough, and they won’t survive another. So until I see a ratings surge in other areas, I’d hold off on trusting the executives behind these “rumors”

Larry David Gives The Bachelorette Advice on ‘The Tonight Show’

On today’s late night shows, you don’t often see the first guest stick around for the second guest.  Mostly, they’ve got better things to do than to waste their time sitting next to someone less famous for an entire segment.  The problem with this new tradition is that there’s nothing funnier than watching A-listers take a back-seat to Z-listers.  Such was the case on ‘The Tonight Show,’ when The Bachelorette’s Ashley Hebert sat next to the legendary Larry David, who couldn’t resist chiming in on her love life.  The result is comedic bliss.  Watch below.

Kevin Eubanks Says Farewell to the Tonight Show (video)

Kevin Eubanks has officially left ‘The Tonight Show.’  Leno played some clips of his favorite Eubanks moments as a tribute, and it actually served as a reminder that Eubanks used to play a more pivotal role in the show.  I’m not sure when he transitioned to just being a Leno laugh track, rather than a participant in some of the show’s skits.  I will miss seeing him though.  He seemed to be a genuinely nice guy that wasn’t too affected by Hollywood.

Conan O’Brien May Not Fire Max Weinberg After All

Amidst reports that Team Conan sacked Max Weinberg after he courted Jay Leno, O’Brien’s team claims that “no details for the TBS show have been set as of now, none at all.”  Here’s hoping that when the details are set, Weinberg gets canned.  Anyone that would jump ship so quickly to the enemy has questionable loyalty.  If Weinberg doesn’t return, I’m sure that the reason given to the press will be that he is too busy kissing Bruce Springsteen’s ass to give Conan his full attention.  Conan needs to find someone that wants to be there.
