Robert Downey Jr. is either the greatest interview or the worst interview. When you piss him off, he’ll let you know. While promoting his new film, Due Date, on The Today Show, Meredith Viera asked him some very uncomfortable questions about his friendships with Mel Gibson and Charlie Sheen, and Downey didn’t look pleased. He insisted that Gibson hired him when no one else would, and when asked what he would say to Charlie Sheen, Downey said, “whatever I would say to him.” There’s nothing that annoys me more than asking a celebrity about other celebrities during their interview. If you can’t land Mel Gibson or Charlie Sheen to interview, then why not ask Robert Downey, Jr. about them, right? How about next time Meredith asks Robert Downey Jr. about Robert Downey Jr.

Wow! I have never watched any other Downey interviews, but I can’t believe this even happened. That lady is VILE. Downey really looked wildly uncomfortable with those obnoxious questions and i don’t blame him – who let that happen. Very awkward – esp. for daytime television. I think Downey really handled himself well under what I can only assume was an underhanded sneak attack.
Not exactly a sneak attack because David Letterman did the same. She
probably saw the Letterman interview and decided to duplicate it b/c most
interviewers are unoriginal. Letterman got away with it though — because
he’s funny.
Ahh that makes sense. I think he also beats Viera in looks, intelligence, and genuine affability.
I am actually flabergasted? Does this happen on the Today show often?
Flabergasted, huh? Doesn’t that word sound like a dolphin is masturbating?
Example — “During my boat trip with my family, I noticed a dolphin
flabbergasting.”
