Selena Gomez’s “Heart Wants What It Wants” in her new video, which would be sad and moving except for the fact that the title is actually a Woody Allen quote, which he uttered in an interview when pressed about his relationship with Soon Yi Previn, saying “The heart wants what it wants. There’s no logic to those things. You meet someone and you fall in love and that’s that.” Plus, it’s a little hard to empathize with Gomez considering her heart obviously wants Justin Bieber, and even the greatest amount empathy won’t wash away that douchedom. Enjoy her less than stellar song below.
Jon Stewart Apologizes. He Voted.
Jon Stewart’s bad joke landed him in the penalty box with some pissed of Americans who look to the lauded political satirist for their daily sanity. When asked by Christiane Amanpour if he voted, Stewart sarcastically said he “just moved and [he] doesn’t even know where his thing is now.” The flip remark sent off a firestorm, with most people rightfully suggesting Stewart demeaned the voting process as unimportant. Watch the Daily Show host cool off the hot water with an apology below.
The Democrats Lost: Nicolle Wallace Gives a Rundown
If you have a limited amount of time and a lot of interest in politics, then you need only look to Nicolle Wallace and her ninja election rundown on The View. Though we all know that Republicans took control, Wallace answered many pressing questions about what’s next. I’ve bulleted her key points below for ease of read, but watch the video at your leisure to see Wallace in action. The View sure landed a big fish, and it’s nice to see a level-headed Republican on the panel.
- The Senate will be younger and more female
- All Presidents face a backlash in their sixth year
- Had the Democrats aligned instead of maligned Obama, then perhaps Obama’s supporters would have voted, thereby increasing the Democrats’ chances.
- The Republicans rejected Tea Party antics in favor of less crazy leaders to represent its party.
- Pot is legal in two more states, like it or not.
- A Democratic President is more likely to get stuff done with a Republican controlled congress, because it’s easier “when it’s just the White House negotiating with one other side.”
PHOX Visits Conan for a Stunning Performance — WATCH NOW
PHOX first caught my attention via a very astute music manager who insisted I see them live in Los Angeles. Their magical stage presence and quiet conviction is awe-inspiring, and their tunes are catchy enough to secure mainstream success. Plus, the lead singer is darn beautiful. Catch them on Conan below.
Russell Brand Bombarded With #PARKLIFE! Hashtags

It appears that twitter trolls have put their attacks to some interesting use as of late, taking a stunning amount of space to barb Russell Brand and his new, sententious book, ‘Revolution.’ The viral rebuke against his verbosity began with Dan Barker, who hilariously suggested that “Russell Brand’s writing feels like someone is about to shout “PARKLIFE!” at the end of every sentence.'” The term stems from the title of a song by the British band Blur, which features ridiculous spoken lines by actor Phil Daniels, which are continuously interrupted by the word “Parklife.” Many retweets later, Brand is now bombarded with the titular term, and he’s drowning in hashtags. I suppose the guy deserves it. After all, if a comedian is going to wax on about politics, he can expect some powerful pushback, and this is brilliant. Listen to the song below, followed by a parody video of Brand.
Delta Spirit at The Satellite: A Full Review
With a devoted underground following and impressive mainstream success, Delta Spirit has become one of the most in-demand live shows to see. Originating from San Diego, the five-piece power group are promoting their fourth full-length Album, ‘Into the Wide,’ and their live performance at The Satellite beautifully balanced their well-known Americana elements with the modern rock transition of their most current material. Delta Spirit’s shift in sound is largely influenced by their move to Brooklyn, a transition that created just enough moody tension to incorporate city angst into their heavier record. Seeing Delta Spirit live at the Satellite confirmed their status as music’s must-see act, most notably the incredibly impressive drumming of Brandon Young, who captured my attention for most of the evening. Listen to ‘Live On’ below, and purchase their record on iTunes.

For the Record: BAZ: An Unforgettable Experience
Your live music experience gets re-imagined with an unforgettable performance of ‘For the Record: Baz,’ a 360 degree concert experience showcasing the songs from Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom, Romeo + Juliet,Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby. The captivating cabaret series is brought to you by the same team from the acclaimed ‘For the Record: Tarantino (Shane Scheel, Christopher Lloyd Bratten and Anderson Davis),’ and the breathtaking extravaganza will entertain audiences at DBA Hollywood through November 23. The show is worth it for Joanna Jones alone, who elevated the entire ensemble during her chilling rendition of Florence + The Machine’s “Over the Love.” I’ve posted a video of her performance below, but it simply doesn’t do this stunning singer justice. She’s young and likely unaware of her future super stardom. Go see Baz. You won’t regret it.
Jim Carrey v. Tommy Lee Jones: On Set Feud Revealed
Jim Carrey visited Howard Stern and amongst his many revelations was a little nugget of gold about his on-set tension with the notoriously bad-tempered Tommy Lee Jones. According to Carrey, Jones made it clear that he “Could not condone [Carrey’s] buffoonery.” Jones is a general go-to example of unruly celebrity behavior, and the video below with Billy Bush says it all. Enjoy both.
Birdman: A Full Review
With a wink to his past and a subtle nod to his future, Michael Keaton captivates in his comeback performance as Birdman. The existential undertone of Keaton’s own career makes him perfect to play “Riggan Thompson,” a washed up actor who walked away from the third installment of his iconic superhero role. His hope to revitalize his career comes in the form of a Broadway play beside some major power players, including Ed Norton (Mike Shiner), Naomi Watts (Leslie), Emma Stone (Sam), and Zach Galifianakis (Brandon).
Director Alejandro González Iñárritu executed the daunting task of actually simulating a play, making the entire movie appear as if it’s shot in one continuous take, a magic trick much like Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Rope.’The backstage drama boosts the film, with Thompson’s depression-driven turmoil beautifully juxtaposed against Shiner’s thespian antics, Sam’s rebellious rants, and Brandon’s failed attempts to temper the trouble. And for the folks who need a little extra entertainment inside this circus of delight, there’s some great shots of Norton in his underwear, who is near-naked for most of the film.
Each character is crafted with many layers, often wavering between confidence, depression, desperation, heroism, kindness, humor, and love. It’s clear that Keaton carries the film, and the actor takes no issue with the irony of his legendary Batman status. And though everyone is on the record as saying the film was not written with Keaton in mind, it’s a fitting mental conundrum, considering there’s a play inside a film that’s shot like a play that stars a guy who once played a bird on screen and in real life who is also launching a comeback on screen and in real life. GOT THAT?!!!
Watch the trailer below, and go see this film.
