Jades Goudreault Covers ‘Sweater Weather’ — LISTEN NOW

When Jades Goudreault makes it big, I’ll take full credit for the early discovery. I’m constantly sent music by new artists, but there’s something about Jades that sets her apart. Listen to her cover of The Neighbourhood’s ‘Sweater Weather’ below.

‘Enough Said’ — Movie Review by The Dishmaster

movies-enough-saidThere are mandatory must-haves to propel the plot of all popular films. Without them, the film will sink faster than one of Tony Sopranos’ rats. There are; however, ways to achieve Hollywood’s most-wanted themes without infringing on the hokiest of sentiments. And ‘Enough Said’ did just that.

Starring Julia Louis-Dreyfuss and the late, great James Gandolfini, the film centers around Eva and Albert, two divorced, middle-agers who are settled in their lives but open to a new relationship. Their mutual affection is slow-growing, and much like real life, each take the time to assess their feelings. Eva isn’t sure she’s attracted to Albert, and Albert, though interested in Eva, seems slightly broken by his past. They begin to date, and just when you fall for their adorable affections, Eva does something to sabotage what they’ve built.

Though I’ve always been impressed by Louis-Dreyfuss and Gandolfini, this film well exceeded my expectations. Each is known for the extremes of their comedic and dramatic genres, but it’s far more impressive to forgo those extremes for a more nuanced performance. These lovable characters come with a powerful palette of details that are so beautifully subtle, it’s mesmerizing.  That’s a feat also attributable to writer and director Nicole Holofcenter, who clearly made a conscious choice to forgo all of Tinseltown’s tritest tricks. During a post-film Q & A at the AARP’s Movies For Grownups Film Festival, Louis-Dreyfus touched on this idea, explaining that she didn’t want a “standard Hollywood kiss,” and instead hoped to get the point across another way. She did just that.

Go see this film. It’s a little gem that’s hard to come by. And as James Gandolfini’s last performance, it does him justice.

AARP’s Movies For Grownups Film Festival Opens in Los Angeles — Magic Ensues

20 FEET FROM STARDOMThe AARP officially achieved the unachievable. In a bid to highlight “movies for grownups” at their first-ever film festival, they miraculously made their content appealing for the under 50 crowd as well. Every selected film was more moving than the next, and each airing was followed by a question and answer session from the stars themselves. In fact, when Julia Louis-Dreyfus offered inside insight into the inner-workings of James Gandolfini’s last film, I instantly pinched myself. And when Merry Clayton sang an A capella rendition of Bob Dylan’s ‘Times They Are a-Changin’ for the audience of ‘Twenty Feet From Stardom,’ I texted every person I knew in the music industry to brag.

There are moments when living in Los Angeles lives up to the Tinseltown tales you grew up hearing about. The AARP’s Movies for Grownups Film Festival was one of those times.

Angela Bassett Poses for JET Magazine — LOOKS STUNNING

Angela Bassett has been on my radar for years, not only for her acting chops, but for her unmatched beauty and killer bod. She posed for the cover of JET Magazine’s December 16th issue, and I’ve posted some notable quotes from her interview below.

Bassett on her children facing racism amongst peers:

“The kids were playing one day, and a blonde, blue-eyed girl said that she didn’t want my daughter to be a part of the family. My son stood up to her and asked the child how would she feel if she was treated like that, and the girl said ‘bad.’ They were only 4 years old at the time.”

Bassett on infertility:

“After trying and trying, I unfortunately couldn’t have my babies. It was my reality. I heard about the surrogate option and it worked out beautifully.”

Bassett on her public persona:

“I’m pretty sure that people think that I’m really serious. I know that they think I’m stern as well. People are always surprised that I’m actually fun, and not all stuck-up and mean!”

Christina Aguilera Sings “Say Something” With A Great Big World

Not all hit songs need an insane hook, belting, and glitter. Watch A Great Big World sing ‘Say Something’ beside Christina Aguilera, who surprisingly delivered very understated vocals for the beautiful hit.

Kanye Reveals Bound 2 — And a Naked Kim Kardashian

Every ounce of my being wanted to hate on Kanye’s new video, mostly because he’s a bloated baby and my annoyance with his antics is at an all-time high. But just as Kanye’s a self-proclaimed “genius,” The Dishmaster is a self-proclaimed unbiased critic, and I simply have no choice but to give credit where credit due. I love the video. It’s artistic, it’s strange, and despite my Kim Kardashian fatigue, it’s clear she’s his inspirational muse, and I’ve slowly adjusted. Furthermore, I welcome curves in an industry saturated with pre-pubescent models. So there you have it. Watch Bound 2 below.

Lady Gaga Wants R. Kelly To “Do What He Wants” — Watch SNL Performance Now

For such a sexual song and dance, it’s ironic that Lady Gaga and R. Kelly have the sexual chemistry of mating snails. In fact, R. Kelly looked like he’d prefer not to touch Lady Gaga’s ass but thought, “Well, why not, it’s right in front of me.” Watch the very hilarious performance of ‘Do What You Want’ on Saturday Night Live.

Alec Baldwin Under Fire — Leave the King of Comedy Alone

ALEC BALDWINI don’t know about you, but when my top’s about to blow, I definitely take the time to really think about insulting my opponent with the most class possible. It’s too bad Alec Baldwin lacks my lucky gift, especially when being accosted by vulturous photographers. After all, it’s okay to say the “F” word, as long as it’s not THAT “F” word.

And if you missed the made-for-TV take-down, Baldwin verbally berated a photographer who harassed him and his wife (newborn baby in tow), calling him a “c—k-sucking f****t.” Baldwin later claimed that his contentious remark was actually, “fathead,” which prompted GLAAD to explain that his adjective (that’s an adjective right?) was equally offensive. Baldwin’s daughter, Ireland Baldwin, has since come to his defense, explaining that her father is far from homophobic.

While I certainly don’t condone hateful speech, I also know that if you poke the bear, you should not be surprised when he uses his insult arsenal to rip off your head. Furthermore, this story should also focus on enacting anti-paparazzi laws to protect not only celebrities, but their families, and the innocent bystanders that get caught in the crossfire. Alec Baldwin’s talent is a gift, and I would prefer to get that gift as long as I can. If the public continues to pounce on this man, he’ll go away quietly, and I’ll be punished. Perhaps it’s time to get to the root of the problem, instead of just watering the poisonous plant.

EDITOR’S NOTE: THE DISHMASTER DOES NOT NOW, NOR HAVE I EVER, PUBLISHED PAPARAZZI PICTURES. THIS IS WHY. I’D ENCOURAGE MY PEERS TO FOLLOW SUIT.
