Ellen Pompeo is Satisfied With Her Grey’s Anatomy Career

The grass is always greener for many actors, and some have left hit shows at the height of their stardom to enter the cold reality of a fading career. That’s not the case for Ellen Pompeo, whose 13 seasons on Grey’s Anatomy proved both lucrative AND satisfying. According to Pompeo, she was well aware that the grass, while seemingly greener, probably required a little too much water for her liking. Of finding roles, she said, “At 33, I was wise enough to know my clock was already ticking in Hollywood” and why “leave something that is super successful and pays me great to search the landscape?”

Kudos to Pompeo for a clear-headed career that we can all learn a thing or two from.

Jesse Williams Delivers Powerful Speech at BET Awards

JESSE WILLIAMS

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star and Advancement Project board member Jesse Williams took the stage at the BET Awards to deliver a powerful speech while accepting the honor for humanitarian of the year. The former public school teacher of American, African and African-American History said the award was for “the real organizers all over the country. The activists, the civil rights attorneys, the struggling parents, the families, the teachers of students that are realizing that a system built to divide and impoverish and destroy us cannot stand if we do. He also asked that those with “no interest in equal rights for black people” avoid “suggestions to those who do.” He ended his speech with perhaps the most powerful point, saying, “We’re done watching and waiting while this invention called whiteness uses and abuses us, burying black people out of sight and out of mind while extracting our culture, our dollars, our entertainment . . . ghettoizing and demeaning our creations, then stealing them, gentrifying our genius and then trying us on like costumes before discarding our bodies like rinds of strange fruit.”

It’s worth nothing Williams’ non-confrontational, poignant delivery.  This is probably the best speech I’ve heard in some time. It’s powerful, yet non-divisive. To see it in it’s entirety, click HERE.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Reveals Unexpected Romance

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ often surprises us with unexpected deaths or on-set explosions, but last night’s episode proved romance can be just as shocking. In a movie no one saw coming, Meredith got her groove back with Nathan Riggs, after a parking-lot fight turned into a steamy makeout. Alex also professed his love for Jo and re-proposed marriage, only to receive a sad rejection. Watch both clips below.

Katherine Heigl Clears Her Image On Howard Stern

Katherine_heigl

I’ve been very hard on Katherine Heigl over the years, which may or may not be fair, because I’m guessing she didn’t need another blogger bashing her during that time. There’s no need to rehash what landed her on the Hollywood shit-list, but in case you’re wondering, click HERE. Though Heigl has tried to correct her cantankerous image, she’s failed to fully reform in the public eye, UNTIL NOW. Heigl visited the Howard Stern show, and the format allowed her to adequately explain herself absent sound bites. For the first time in history, I finally understand her intentions. Here’s a rundown.

In response to that infamous comment about ‘Knocked Up’ being “sexist.”

Heigl said that though she liked the film, she personally felt her character was judgmental and unlikable. That doesn’t mean she took issue with the writing, she just would not personally hangout with the uptight chick she played. She might not have ever said that out loud, but she was somewhat when a Vanity Fair interviewer asked her to respond to the idea that the film was sexist (as in, the men are cool and the women are nags). Since she’s obviously not good at navigating controversial comments, she stepped in it. And Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen have yet to forgive her.

In response to removing her name out of Emmy contention.

Heigl rose to fame on ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ but there was a slow year for her character, and when asked to sift through her material to find something worthy of submitting to the Emmys, she simply felt she didn’t have a deep enough performance to compete. Though she didn’t think anyone would notice, they did, and when asked about it, she stepped in it again. She admits to apologizing to Shonda Rhimes. She also explained that the nature of an ensemble cast is difficult, because with 7 series regulars, everyone wants their time to shine.

Is she difficult to work with?

She doesn’t think so, but she’s so concerned about her image, she’s lost her “voice,” and she’s constantly baited by interviewers to give them something juicy or “f-ck up,” as Heigl puts it. In fact, her shoes once fit too tight, and she didn’t say anything for fear of fanning the fire.

And there you have it. Let this be a lesson to anyone in hot water. If you want to clear your name, go on Howard Stern.

Top 5 Most Disgruntled Television Stars

  1. KATHERINE HEIGL

KATHERINEHEIGL

Katherine Heigl’s professional plight takes many turns, beginning with her career-defining role on ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ Heigl had a hard time with the writing, and the creative differences caused her to remove her name from Emmy contention. She also took the side of co-star T.R Knight in his famous on-set feud with Isaiah Washington, followed by labeling the crew’s long hours as unfair. And if that wasn’t enough, she called her big-budget film, ‘Knocked Up’ “sexist.” Her shining star quickly dimmed and her career has yet to rebound.

2. ROB LOWE

robloweRob Lowe’s status as a Hollywood heartthrob has been more than complicated, with a series of well-known exits from Television’s top shows. Lowe left ‘The West Wing’ amid contentious contract negotiations, saying that everyone on the show received a raise except him. Though his account might be technically accurate, it’s missing some key components. Lowe’s salary started at a much higher number than his cast-mates, and despite their raise, they still didn’t catch up. Lowe wouldn’t take no for an answer, and he left the show.

3. DAVID CARUSO

carusoDavid Caruso’s career ended almost as quickly as it began when he capitulated to stardom in 1993’s NYPD Blue. After failing to receive the raise he wanted the following year, he left in a huff and pursued film, which fell flat fast. Caruso remained relatively unemployed until 2002, when he resurrected his leading-man status in ‘CSI: Miami.’

4. SHELLY LONG

shelly long cheers

Though Shelly Long won’t admit regret for her choice to leave ‘Cheers’ in its 1987 height, the media will do it for her. Rumor has it Long resembled her snooty Diane Chambers character and fancied herself a movie star. The show continued for six more seasons, with Kirstie Alley stepping in as Ted Danson’s love interest, and Long’s career never quite rebounded.

Dave Chappelle kicked his corporate gig to the curb and he left $50 million behind. Though some might suggest Comedy Central isn’t “corporate,” Chappelle would likely say otherwise, explaining that there were far too many suits interfering with his creative process, and the pressure became too much. He now lives in Ohio and has returned to his roots in stand-up comedy.

Grey’s Anatomy Sneak Peak: Is the Impossible Possible?

It’s no secret that Shonda Rimes is loyal to her key players, and while I usually agree with her casting choices, Caterina Scorsone is a misfire. Derek Shepherd has yet to find the same foe foil he had in Dr. Burke, and while the attempt was appreciated, Amelia simply doesn’t seem smart enough to take the throne. In the scene below, it appears as if I’m right.

Isaiah Washington Makes Poetic Return to Grey’s Anatomy

“Isaiah is a person that we all love and have loved for a very long time. I feel like there have been a lot of people that have been like, ‘How can you do this?’ And I feel very strongly and fully believe in people’s ability to grow and change and learn from their mistakes and when they know better, to do better. If people don’t think that, over the course of seven years, it’s possible for a human being to change, then there really is no future for the human race at all.” Series creator Shonda Rhimes, on Isaiah Washington’s return to Grey’s Anatomy after his much-publicized exit from the show. Watch Washington’s beautiful chemistry with Sandra Oh below.
