The Good Wife Grieves — Alicia Loses Will

the-good-wifeWhile I’m still personally peeved about Josh Charles stage left exit from The Good Wife, it certainly pivoted the show in a new direction, which can be a good thing. On tonight’s episode, the characters grieved for their colleague who was executed at the hands of his client. Alicia was especially mournful, which will likely create distance from her husband, whom she previously cheated on with Will. As for when the show will return to its plot-driven roots instead of this character-heavy excess, that has yet to be seen.

As an aside, if Josh Charles is reading this, let me just send a specific poke in his direction. A 22 episode season on a hit network show is any actor’s dream job. Each season has a summer hiatus, followed by a break nearly every three weeks so the writers can catch up. I cannot understand the choice to leave. And did I mention that most of those “long work days” are spent in the trailer while other actors shoot their scenes? It baffles me that he didn’t want to renegotiate this gravy train. And for the network executives that orchestrated this mess, I have another message. I realize you’re often desperate to sign the star you’re after. Let this be a lesson not to let aggressive agents bamboozle you into allowing a four year contract instead of the standard six. I’m angry with everyone involved.

Joan Rivers Returns to The Tonight Show — FALLON LIFTS BAN

It’s no secret that Joan Rivers has a complicated history with The Tonight Show. The comedic legend got blacklisted when she launched a competing show against Johnny Carson, who saw her choice as a betrayal. In fact, Rivers herself admits she neglected to get Johnny’s blessing, and given that Johnny gave Rivers her first break, it was probably not the greatest move. In retrospect, Rivers might have mishandled the delicate situation, but in today’s competing climate, this type of move would be expected. Because Leno and Conan respected the ban during their reign as host, Rivers remained on the outs. But Joan stayed relevant long enough to return when Fallon welcomed her back. Watch below.

Scandal Episode 15 — Fitz v. Mellie Epic Showdown

It what can only be describe as poetic, Tony Goldwyn and Bellamy young executed the best scene in the history of ABC’s Scandal. Upon discovering that Mellie is having an affair with his Vice Presidential candidate, the President confronted his wife for having pushed him away and ruining their marriage. According to Fitz, Mellie sank the sexual nature of their relationship after their first child was born because she was “not a sexual person anymore,” which now proves untrue. The resulting argument is epic. For the first time, it’s revealed why Fitz strayed with Olivia Pope, and both characters become instantly humanized. While I won’t use praise to pounce on another, I think actors everywhere can take lessons from the beautiful light and shade of this scene. Watch below.

Bethenny Frankel Tells Andy Cohen About Failed Talk Show: “Felt Shackled”

It’s interesting that ousted hosts always bash the same executives who selected them for the job. After all, if those executives don’t know enough to critique your show, perhaps they didn’t know enough to pick you in the first place. Bethenny Frankel joins the long list of less-than-stellar daytime talk show hosts that didn’t last. While it might be true that she received those infamous annoying notes from executives, the truth behind the show’s demise is that she simply couldn’t survive in that format. Short, clipped interviews are best left to comedians, especially since even the most polished of interviewers often don’t translate in that time slot (see Katie Couric). Furthermore, Frankel has no experience as an interviewer, and her history in reality television made it hard to book guests. She’s certainly entertaining as the star, but there’s a huge difference between a star and a host.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Visits The Tonight Show — GET TO THE CHOPPER!

As a Tonight Show staple, it only makes sense for Arnold Schwarzenegger to visit Jimmy Fallon. The screen legend is also known for his sense of humor, so Fallon put him to the test with a hilarious SNL style skit, with Schwarzenegger hosting QVC while uttering his famous line from The Predator. Watch ‘GET TO THE CHOPPER’ below.

George Lopez on Howard Stern: Talks Conan O’Brien & Slams TBS

George Lopez visited Howard Stern today, and the comedy legend revealed some massive secrets behind the infamous late-night war between Conan O’Brien and Jay Leno. While Conan is often thought to be the greatest casualty of the fiery feud, Lopez brought to light something I’ve said from the start. Conan O’Brien is just as guilty as Jay Leno. First, O’Brien took Lopez’s time slot and his dismal ratings meant he was a poor lead-in for Lopez. According to Lopez, he had no say in the decision, and though he was publicly accepting, TBS forced his hand. TBS also asked Lopez to call Conan to convince him to take the job, another move Lopez felt forced to make. Lopez also slammed David Hudson, the SVP of late night and specials, who consistently called-out Lopez’s creative choices, despite “never having sold a comedy ticket in his life.”

It’s insane that Conan came out clean in the Tonight Show feud, especially since the entire debacle began when he pressured NBC to sack Leno, which would be considered evil in any other non-entertainment profession. Plus, he simply didn’t have the ratings. Sure he had a weak lead-in, but if that’s the case, then it’s even further proof of his hypocrisy regarding George Lopez. Listen to Lopez’s very honest account below.
