Designers Start Choosing Models Over Celebrities

A large source of celebrity income just got smaller.  WWD reports that European designers are choosing models instead of celebrities to advertise their fall-winter campaigns.  Dolce & Gabbana are pretty much the only exception, with the use of Madonna.  Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld explains the shift, saying that celebrities are overexposed in other magazines and people get tired of seeing them.  Gucci director Frida Giannini also weighed in, sayng that she uses models because celebrities are “often associated with a certain film.”  She prefers a “strong, generic face that’s not related to any world – whether that be music or Hollywood.”   This is definitely a breath of fresh air in our bloated celebrity culture.  Now if we can just get these guys to go back to the Cindy Crawford curves and stop hiring emaciated models.

Christian Siriano Will Design Melania Trump’s Dress for the Costume Institute Gala

Project Runway winner Christian Siriano has a lot to celebrate.  Melania Trump chose him to design her dress for for the Met ball, which she referred to as the “Oscars of fashion.”  She chose Siriano because he is “fierce, young, glamorous, elegant, sexy, big, and beautiful.”  That’s quite the compliment.  This year’s Gala will be sponsored by the Gap, which will also be dressing some celebrities.  All dresses will be auctioned off the following day, with proceeds going to the Costume Institute.  Other designers include Kenneth Cole, Ralph Lauren, and Michael Kors.  Isn’t it interesting that Michael Kors used to judge Christian Siriano on ‘Project Runway,’ and now they will be designing for the same event?

Showtime Sets Premiere Date for Weeds

Fear not ‘Weeds’ fans.  Season six is officially on its way.  The new season premieres on August 16th.  It will be immediately followed by the series premiere of ‘The Big C’ with Laura Linney at 10:30pm.  I cannot wait to see how the Nancy/Esteban affair unfolds!  If you are behind on the series, be sure to catch up on Netflix.  They have season 4 and 5 on “watch it now.”  (No – Netflix is not paying me to say that).

Is Oprah The Next Dr. Drew? – Oprah Will Air a Rehab Show

Oprah announced a new rehab show for her OWN network.  The show will follow individuals in rehab that are trying to conquer their eating disorders.  No offense to the Queen, but I cannot think of a show I would like to watch less.  I can barely get through Celebrity Rehab, but I stick around to see Heidi Fleiss’ antics.  Unless Oprah is going to get Heidi Fleiss to fight with Tom Sizemore, this sounds like a bust.

Conan O’Brien May Not Fire Max Weinberg After All

Amidst reports that Team Conan sacked Max Weinberg after he courted Jay Leno, O’Brien’s team claims that “no details for the TBS show have been set as of now, none at all.”  Here’s hoping that when the details are set, Weinberg gets canned.  Anyone that would jump ship so quickly to the enemy has questionable loyalty.  If Weinberg doesn’t return, I’m sure that the reason given to the press will be that he is too busy kissing Bruce Springsteen’s ass to give Conan his full attention.  Conan needs to find someone that wants to be there.

Christina Aguilera Gets Compared to Lady Gaga Again – I’m Sure She’s Pissed

Christina Aguilera’s new music video is being likened to Gaga’s style once again.  The comparisons began years ago before Lady Gaga made it.  When originally asked about copying her, Aguilera got pretty nasty saying, ‘this person [Lady Gaga] was just brought to my attention not too long ago. I’m not quite sure who this person is, to be honest. I don’t know if it is a man or a woman. I just wasn’t sure.”  Lady Gaga took the high road in response saying, “well, it was very flattering when [the comparisons] happened. She’s such a huge star and if anything I should send her flowers, because a lot of people in America didn’t know who I was until that whole thing happened. It really put me on the map in a way.”  Isn’t it ironic that this association is now helping Aguilera’s career?

Anchorman 2 Isn’t Happening

Adam McKay, writer/director of the original ‘Anchorman,’ confirmed via twitter that Paramount passed on producing a sequel.  They couldn’t agree on a budget, but McKay said that they passed even after he reduced the budget. He also clarified that Paramount owns the film, which means they cannot bring it to another studio. Another studio could always pay Paramount for the rights to produce the film, but that’s extremely unlikely here. Studios rarely make comedy sequels. They never make as much money as action films, and the cast usually requires a hefty salary.

Shayne Lamas’ Husband Insults Matt Grant on Twitter

Shayne Lamas’ new husband, Nik Richie, took to his twitter page to take a swipe at The Bachelor’s Matt Grant.  He said that he wanted to give his wife a rose, but he “didn’t want her to have flashbacks of an English douchebag with fake teeth.”  Shayne, being equally mature, re-tweeted his message.  The only thing I can explain from his comment is the fake teeth.  The producers of The Bachelor spent a lot of money repairing Matt Grant’s teeth before they started filming the show.  Other than that, it sounds like Nik Richie is a bit jealous of his wife’s former fiance.  Lamas is said to have dumped Grant, but if that’s true I’m not sure why there’s such animosity.

Robert Downey Jr. Confirms ‘Iron Man 3’

While promoting ‘Iron Man 2,’ Robert Downey Jr. confirmed that ‘Iron Man 3’ will start shooting after ‘The Avengers’ is complete.  ‘The Avengers’ will feature many superheroes, including Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, Nick Fury and Loki.  ‘Iron Man’ director Jon Favreau won’t be directing it, but he will be an executive producer.  I realize that ‘The Avengers’ is very popular with Marvel, but this just sounds like a bad idea.  If Favreau isn’t directing it, it could potentially change the entire tone of ‘Iron Man,’ and therefore threaten ‘Iron Man 3.’  I guess Marvel figures that there is a lot of money to be made from potential superhero spinoffs.  That money won’t be made though if the film tanks.  I say convince Favreau to direct.

John Mayer May Quit Twitter – Hallelujah

John Mayer recently admitted to grappling with the idea of quitting twitter.  I’m guessing this has something to do with his inability to self censor.  Perhaps someone should tell John Mayer that he should refrain from interviews altogether, because twitter isn’t the only venue that has gotten him into trouble.  Whenever celebrities get criticized, they threaten to quit twitter.  Just don’t drink and type and you’ll be fine.  Oh yeah – also don’t be a douchebag.
