Harry Connick Jr. Responds to Fan Requests That he Judge American Idol

I’d like to think that Harry Connick Jr. reads justTHEdish, and that is where he heard about my request that he judge ‘American Idol,’ but the truth is pretty much the entire country had this idea.  Harry said that he doesn’t know if he’d make a good judge, because his musical experience is not the pop world.  I wonder what Ellen Degeneres’ pop experience is?  And I know Randy is supposed to bring this background, but he only knows the word pitchy.  Harry must do it!  Fans unite!

Kelly Clarkson is Angry at Ryan Tedder? – Or Just in General?

Some people are speculating that Kelly Clarkson’s new song ‘wash, rinse, and repeat,’ takes a dig at Ryan Tedder, who wrote her hit single, ‘Already Gone.’  Clarkson publicly lashed out at Tedder after she heard Beyonce’s ‘Halo,’ accusing him of basically writing the same song for both of them so he could make double the money.  Tedder said that the two songs are similar because he has a specific song writing style, but he in know way tried to get away with pitching the same song to two different artists.  Personally, I’m sick of Kelly Clarkson’s disrespectful attitude.  First of all, she lodged a mighty accusation Tedder’s way, which could have been extremely damaging to his career.  And those songs don’t sound near enough alike to warrant such a tongue lashing.  Second, Kelly Clarkson needs to keep her big mouth shut.  You might remember her insulting the legendary Clive Davis when he correctly predicted that her non-pop album would tank.  Listen below and determine for yourself whether she is perpetuating this Tedder accusation.

Lady Gaga Performs on ‘American Idol’ – Watch in Full

Someone forgot to tell Lady Gaga that ‘American Idol’ sucks now.  Her performance on Wednesday’s results show was pre-taped, which annoys me.  Remember the old Idol days when the judges would actually sit and watch these performances and you could see their faces?  Anyways, I love Gaga but I’m going on the record to say that she has to stop covering her face.  I actually want to see what she looks like.  Imagine that.  Watch below.

Harry Connick Jr. Needs to be the New Judge on ‘American Idol’

It’s official: Harry Connick Jr. needs to take over for Simon Cowell on ‘American Idol.’  Enough of the Elton John suggestions.  Connick Jr. proved himself on last night’s show.  He’s funny, he’s charming, he’s good-looking, and he certainly knows his music.  Any by “knows his music,” I mean he has other words in his vocabulary besides “pitchy.”  He’s by far the best mentor that the show has ever had, and he even pointed out why Casey James might have had trouble singing, given that you can’t hear yourself on stage (not one of the FOUR judges on the panel had constructive criticism such as this).  I can’t be the only one to think of this.  Wait – I take that back.  Given that the Idol producers can barely run the show on time, I bet they haven’t thought of it.  Glad I’m here to help.  Watch Connick Jr. in action below.

Beyonce Has a Question: ‘Why Don’t You Love Me?" – Watch her Music Video

Beyonce gets my official award for thinking of the most creative ways to shake one’s booty.  My goodness.  First ‘Single Ladies’ and now this?  And who says life ends after you put a ring on it?  Watch the video below.  It’s excellent.

Designers Start Choosing Models Over Celebrities

A large source of celebrity income just got smaller.  WWD reports that European designers are choosing models instead of celebrities to advertise their fall-winter campaigns.  Dolce & Gabbana are pretty much the only exception, with the use of Madonna.  Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld explains the shift, saying that celebrities are overexposed in other magazines and people get tired of seeing them.  Gucci director Frida Giannini also weighed in, sayng that she uses models because celebrities are “often associated with a certain film.”  She prefers a “strong, generic face that’s not related to any world – whether that be music or Hollywood.”   This is definitely a breath of fresh air in our bloated celebrity culture.  Now if we can just get these guys to go back to the Cindy Crawford curves and stop hiring emaciated models.

Shobian Magnus Eliminated on ‘American Idol’ – I’m not Surprised

I am watching ‘American Idol’ this season for the same reason I slow my car down when I see an accident on the side of the road.  The show is horrible.  If you’re shocked that Siobhan was sent home, I think you can blame it on the viewers’ apathy toward just about every contestant.  The judges picked a terrible top 32, and now we are forced to pick the best of the worst.  The fact that Simon isn’t acknowledging the issue surprises me.  All I ask is that we reserve our feigned shock about this elimination to get to the heart of the issue – the show is simply unwatchable and there is no one to root for.  Watch below to hear the song that she got eliminated for, and judge for yourself.

Lady Gaga Will Appear on American Idol

Lady Gaga announced via twitter, that she will be appearing on ‘American Idol’ on May 5th, just in time for May sweeps.  I’m not sure if anyone told her that the show has gone to shit this season, but perhaps she’ll rescue it.  Either way, I’m hoping for an excellent performance with little to no “mentoring.”  After all, who could top the fantastic advice of Miley Cyrus?

Dancing with the Stars Beats American Idol Again

Sure they only won by about a million viewers, but that’s enough to signify what I think is the beginning of the end for the Idol powerhouse.  DWTS had 21.21 million viewers, while Idol had 20.84.  This doesn’t surprise me, given that this is the worst season of ‘American Idol’ in the history of the show.  The ship is sinking.  Maybe the judges were just too lazy this time around to pick a decent crop of kids for us to vote on.  Either that or Kara DioGuardi and this horrific four judge panel needs to be done with.

The Addams Family Musical Rakes in Money Despite Negative Reviews

This surprised me.  I’m not surprised that ticket buyers would ignore the critics, just that they’d actually want to see this musical.  I’m almost always against remaking movies into Broadway musicals, and this one was no exception.  I guess I’m the only one though.  The show garnered $15 million in advance sales, and made close to a million dollars opening weekend on top of that.  I think that we have Nathan Lane to blame thank for this.  He plays Gomez and is probably the draw needed to get the show up and running.  I’m just so sick of the Addams Family.  It started as a cartoon, then became a TV series, and four films later, we are now at the Broadway musical.  Did I mention that Tim Burton is making an animated film too?  Sigh . . . the family you can’t get rid of.
