Lady Gaga Cries During HBO Special — Inauthentic and Disturbing?

When I think of Lady Gaga, the first word that comes to my mind is inauthentic. When I say this in public, it’s inevitable that someone chews my head off. Judging from the clip below, Lady Gaga would probably join in their rage. The reason I question her authenticity is because she started in the business under her real name, and she played clubs dressed as a normal person. When her career failed to launch, she got smart and developed a schtick. This schtick involves dressing up in an egg on the red carpet, and wearing frog costumes during interviews. Is that authentic or calculated? It’s okay to develop an image to gain success in the industry, but when you start as one thing and become another — don’t cry when others call you a phony. It comes with the territory. Furthermore, I find the clip below to be somewhat disturbing, as if she’s crying over nothing, and she’s surrounded by people that are arbitrarily appeasing her neurosis. If I were her friend, I might ask her if she’s seen a therapist lately (I’m actually not being sarcastic about that
suggestion).

Vintage David Letterman — A Very Funny Jim Parsons Interview

I have a couple of confessions to make before writing this post.  First, I tricked you with my title.  Jim Parsons’ Letterman interview was taped in May of this year, which is not exactly “vintage,” but I had to think of a clever title to make up for the fact that I missed this great interview when it originally aired.  To assuage my embarrassment, I’d like to remind you that celebrities often wear dresses on the red carpet that they call “vintage,” which basically just means it wasn’t hand-made with them in mind.  Remember Reese Witherspoon’s “vintage” Chanel dress at the Golden Globes, which was actually worn by Kirsten Dunst the year before?  My second confession is that I don’t watch the Big Bang Theory, despite its incredible success.  But after watching the interview below, I might have to start.  Jim Parsons recently picked up an Emmy for his role on the show, which I’m guessing he seriously deserves.  Watch and enjoy!

8 Reasons I Love Leonardo DiCaprio

With the success of Inception, I’ve decided to write a post professing my love for Leonardo DiCaprio. In an effort to prove that my love is based on more than looks — I’m going to take the time to substantiate my obsession.

1. He picks directors, not scripts. DiCaprio is known for having great taste in directors. Many actors make the mistake of choosing roles based on the script alone, but not DiCaprio. He knows that film-making is a director’s medium, and it therefore makes sense to choose those at the top of their game.  This includes Martin Scorsese, James Cameron, Steven Spielberg, Danny Boyle, and Christopher Nolan.

2. He stays out of the tabloids. Many actors insist that the paparazzi are unavoidable.  If that were true, DiCaprio would make the rounds in Us Weekly, yet you never see pictures of him. He’s managed to maintain a successful career without all the nonsense.

3. His demons are under control. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, DiCaprio confessed that he never engaged in the Los Angeles party scene. “I was never into drugs at all,” he said. “There aren’t stories of me in a pool of my own vomit in a hotel room on the Hollywood Strip.”

4. He survived the child star transition. DiCaprio got his foot in the door on Growing Pains, and he avoided all the quintessential pitfalls of childhood stardom.

5. He’s loyal. He starred with Kate Winslet in Titanic, and judging from her speech at the Golden Globes, they’ve remained great friends ever since. They starred in Revolutionary Road together, which also proves he’s not afraid of the Titanic comparisons.

6. He doesn’t use his personal life to advance his career. Many actors love to walk the red carpet as a “power couple.” Not DiCaprio. Though he’s had high profile romances, he doesn’t talk about them.

7.  He’s a great actor.  Enough said.

8.  He’s great looking.  Alright, I’m superficial.  But what’s wrong with liking pretty things?

Joan Rivers Calls Out Ben Stiller on Howard Stern: “He’s Arrogant”

Joan Rivers appeared on Howard Stern today, and took a big swipe at Ben Stiller, calling him an “arrogant, lucky guy.” Though I love Ben Stiller, I certainly love celebrity trash talking even more (well, if it’s true that is). Rivers claims that Ben Stiller’s fame is owed primarily to his more famous parents, including the very funny Jerry Stiller, who played George Costanza’s father on ‘Seinfeld.’ Since Rivers is friends with Stiller’s parents, she doesn’t appreciate it when she runs into Stiller at red carpet events and he “can’t be bothered to say hello.” Rivers was on Stern to promote her new documentary, ‘A Piece of Work.’ Hopefully we’ll see even more trash talking in it. See the trailer below.

Howard Stern Goes to the ‘Sex and the City 2’ Premiere – See Pictures

For some reason the thought of Howard Stern at the premiere of ‘Sex and the City 2’ makes me laugh hysterically.  If you listened to the show today, you would have heard him endlessly discuss his anxiety about the premiere, because he was to wake up at 4:00am to do his show in the morning.  His solution?  He’ll only watch the first half-hour of the movie and dip out in time to get his full 8 hours of sleep.  At least he got to strike some poses on the red carpet though.  See pictures of Stern and others below.

Megan Fox v. Michael Bay: The Quote Showdown – A Timeline

In honor of Megan Fox’s departure from Transformers 3, I have listed all of the quotes from both Michael Bay and Megan Fox, to illustrate just how much these two hated each other.  Grab your popcorn and start reading!

Megan Fox on ‘Transformers’ in General – Entertainment Weekly Interview (June 2009):

“The humans are secondary to the robots because it’s a movie about robots… People are well aware that this is not a movie about acting. And once you realize that, it becomes almost fun because you can be in the moment and go, ‘All right, I know that when he calls Action! I’m either going to be running or screaming, or both.'”

Michael Bay Responds to Megan Fox’s Entertainment Weekly Interview – Wall Street Journal Interview (June 2009)

“Well, that’s Megan Fox for you. She says some very ridiculous things because she’s 23 years old and she still has a lot of growing to do. You roll your eyes when you see statements like that and think, “Okay Megan, you can do whatever you want. I got it.” But I 100% disagree with her. Nick Cage wasn’t a big actor when I cast him, nor was Ben Affleck before I put him in “Armageddon.” Shia LaBeouf wasn’t a big movie star before he did “Transformers”—and then he exploded. Not to mention Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, from “Bad Boys.” Nobody in the world knew about Megan Fox until I found her and put her in “Transformers.” I like to think that I’ve had some luck in building actors’ careers with my films.”

Megan Fox on what it’s like to work for Michael Bay – Wonderland Magazine interview (September 2009):

“God, I really wish I could go loose on this one. He’s like Napoleon and he wants to create this insane, infamous mad-man reputation. He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is. So he’s a nightmare to work for but when you get him away from set, and he’s not in director mode, I kind of really enjoy his personality because he’s so awkward, so hopelessly awkward. He has no social skills at all. And it’s endearing to watch him. He’s vulnerable and fragile in real life and then on set he’s a tyrant. Shia and I almost die when we make a Transformers movie. He has you do some really insane things that insurance would never let you do.”

Michael Bay’s Crew Responds to Megan Fox’s “Hitler” Comments – His Website (September 2009)

“When facing the press, Megan is the queen of talking trailer trash and posing like a porn star. And yes we’ve had the unbearable time of watching her try to act on set, and yes, it’s very cringe-able. So maybe, being a porn star in the future might be a good career option. But make-up beware, she has a paragraph tattooed to her backside (probably due her rotten childhood) — easily another 45 minutes in the chair!”

Michael Bay Takes Down His Crew’s Nasty Letter and Posts a New Comment (September 2009):

“I don’t condone the crew letter to Megan. And I don’t condone Megan’s outlandish quotes. But her crazy quips are part of her crazy charm. The fact of the matter I still love working with her, and I know we still get along. I even expect more crazy quotes from her on Transformers 3.”

Michael Bay’s Letter to Megan Fox When he Announced the Date for Transformers 3 (October 2009):

“P.S. Megan Fox, welcome back. I promise no alien robots will harm you in any way during the production of this motion picture. Please consult your Physician when working under my direction because some side effects can occur, such as mild dizziness, intense nausea, suicidal tendencies, depression, minor chest hair growth, random internal hemorrhaging and inability to sleep. As some directors may be hazardous to your health, please consult your Doctor to determine if this is right for you”

Michael Bay Insists he Likes Megan Fox – Interview With USA Today (November 2009):

“I love her,” the man responsible for the blockbuster franchise told USA TODAY’s Andrea Mandell. “It’s just, she’s young. Everyone’s got to give her a break, she only…23? It’s just hard. I’ve traveled around the world with her and she’s just like this world symbol now, you know?”   So he brushes her diatribes under the carpet? “Absolutely,” he said. “She called me (after the Hitler comment) and goes, ‘It’s all bullsh—t, Mike.’ The press, they just like to prey, and stalk, and pounce and find a good little juicy thing. But she’s always wanted to do these crazy comments. That’s just her. She’s great.”  He also said, “She’s got a great part in Transformers 3,” and he said he’s currently working on the script. So Bay’s not planning on getting revenge by, say, killing her off? “No, no. no,” he said, dismissing it. “She gets enough of that already.”

Megan Fox on Michael Bay making her tan- Allure magazine interview (May 2010):

“I had been tanning a lot so that Michael would be happy with my skin tone. Every spare moment of sun that was outside, I had to be in it,” the 24-year-old actress lamented in Allure magazine. “It’s not going to happen again because of the damage and the possible skin cancer.”

Deadline Hollywood Reports that Megan Fox Got the Axe (yesterday):

Nikki Finke reports: “I’ve just learned that Paramount won’t be picking up Megan Fox’s option on Transformers 3 — and that it was “ultimately” director Michael Bay’s decision.”

Megan Fox Insists She Quit Transformers and Wasn’t Fired:

“It was her decision not to return. She wishes the franchise the best.”

Red Carpet Fashion: American Cinematheque Awards

Here are some pictures from the American Cinematheque’s awards event.  The ‘American Cinematheque’ is a local, non-profit organization in Los Angeles dedicated to cinema.  Every year, it presents an award to a film-maker.  Past recipients include: Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Ron Howard.  This year, Matt Damon was selected, which made for some pretty funny jokes from Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck.   Interestingly, both Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel attended the the event with their new significant others.  Awkward?
