Movie Review — ‘The Internship’

20130610-124430.jpgThe naysayers know nothing! The Internship is a refreshing reunion of two comedy titans who I’ve longed for since Wedding Crashers. Despite those curmudgeon critics, I went in with an open mind, and I left with all the laughter I looked forward to.

The film follows two laid-off salesman (played by Owen Wilson & Vince Vaughn) who are on a desperate quest for a career change after their day jobs have become dated by the digital age. Their search lands them a lucky internship at Google, where their behind-the-ball antics amidst their much more experienced (and younger) peers result in hilarity.

The sweeping undertones of the film are inspiring, playing into an idea that everyone has something to offer, and no matter what our life trajectory, we can always jump off one train in favor of another. It also helps that the Vaughn/Wilson chemistry is comedically unmatched. I’m relatively certain I could watch a looped documentary of these guys having coffee together and still enjoy it. As for the idea that their digital ignorance is dated, or that the story is a gigantic Google ad, this simply doesn’t concern me. I loved every millisecond of this film — and that’s my only judging criteria.

OVERALL RATING: 5/5 DISHES

Brody Jenner on Bruce Jenner: “He Wasn’t a Great Father”

The father/son friction between Bruce Jenner and Brody Jenner isn’t new. Brody frowned upon Bruce’s fathering skills during a Howard Stern interview, where he disclosed that once his father took up with the Kardashians, he took them on as children while simultaneously neglecting his own. That being said, Brody’s on-screen honesty surprised me, especially considering it doesn’t bode well for the Kardashian klan’s image, which is something they adamantly protect. Watch Brody’s disclosure below.

Taylor Swift Becomes a Tot for “Everything Has Changed” Video — WATCH NOW

Would Taylor Swift date Ed Sheeran in real life? My instincts say he’s too nice for the bad-boy bound beauty. But they sure look cute together as tykes. Watch their video for “Everything Has Changed.”

David Bowie & Freddie Mercury’s Isolated Vocal Tracks Released — Listen to “Under Pressure”

I found this little gem on Paste Magazine, and I had to share it. Queen’s Freddie Mercury is quite possibly the best vocalist in history, and the isolated vocal track below proves that point beyond contention. Listen to David Bowie and Freddie Mercury sing “Under Pressure” — vocals only.

Megyn Kelly Takes on Erick Erickson, Lou Dobbs

When Megyn Kelly opened the gender airwaves by asking, “What makes you dominant and me submissive, and who died and made you scientist-in-chief?” I knew it would be good. Watch the television titan take down these bloated blockheads while discussing their archaic views of society’s gender roles.

Vintage Quote of the Day — George Clooney

george clooney 3“I do commercials overseas. I’ll do a coffee commercial and if that lets me live in the house I live in and have a nice life, and I get to make the films I want to make, then I’ll sell coffee. I don’t have a problem with that.” George Clooney on ‘Inside the Actor’s Studio,’ speaking about the low salary he received for his passion-project, ‘The Ides of March.’

Patrick Stewart Shares Childhood Trauma — WATCH NOW

Meg Ryan once said in an interview with Oprah that, “If there’s light shining on you for any reason, then you should stand next to something that matters.” That quote is ever the more significant when standing next to a personal cause, opening oneself up to an unnecessarily vulnerability in a bid to help others. Such is the case with Patrick Stewart, who has been honest about the domestic abuse his mother suffered at the hands of his father, and who has since dedicated himself to preventing violence against women. While speaking at Comicpalooza, Stewart gave a passionate speech in answer to a young woman’s question about his most important work outside of acting. The woman later elaborated about the conversation on her blog, saying:

“Sir Patrick didn’t even hesitate, he smiled, hopped off the stage and came over to embrace me in a hug. … He held me there for a long while. He told me ‘You never have to go through that again, you’re safe now.’ I couldn’t stop thanking him. His embrace was so warm and genuine. It was two people, two strangers, supporting and giving love. And when we pulled away he looked straight in my eyes, like he was promising that. He told me to take care. And I will.”
