Shaprece Performs at The Hotel Cafe: An Unforgettable Event

SHAPRECE_HOTEL_CAFE_TOUR

It’s difficult to define Shaprece’s sound because she defies boundaries. The up-and-coming Seattle artist graced The Hotel Cafe with her smooth vocals and groovy vibe, against the bold backdrop of an electric cello and ambient electronics, courtesy of Phillip Peterson and IG88, respectively. Her style feels both plotted yet experimental, effortlessly moving between each song in such an enchanting fashion, you might feel as if you’re lost in space. In fact, she sings each lyric with such ease, it’s easy to forget the force of its meaning. Catch her on tour, you won’t regret it.

The Griddle Cafe: Best Breakfast in Los Angeles

griddleWhile I generally avoid restaurant write-ups due to my sub-par food knowledge, The Griddle Cafe deserves some extra sweet attention. Run by Chef and Founder Jodi Hortze, the delectable eatery has every pancake dish under the sun, in addition to some drool-worthy french toast that will take you to another dimension. Hortze’s admitted sugar-deprived childhood inspired her pancake palace, and the endless array of imaginative offerings would leave Willy Wonka wanting more.  Grab your best friends with big appetites to share in this smorgasbord of scrumptious food. You won’t find a better breakfast in Los Angeles.

Kathy Griffin Weighs in on Guiliana Rancic Controversy

fashion_police_castKathy Griffin weighed in on the Guiliana Rancic controversy, and her take is far more classy than that of her cohort, Kelly Osbourne. Instead of trying to punch her way out of a paper bag with an angry twitter rant, Griffin gave an educated answer, explaining that Rancic should refrain from using joke writers, given that she already has enough inside content from being on the red carpet itself. She also said she nixed a “whore score,” segment, calling it “simply the lowest hanging fruit.”

Hillary Clinton Answers “Emailgate” — Defensive & Ridiculous

Hillary Clinton is still her own worst enemy, and until she grasps how to eloquently assert her opinion while under fire, she can’t be President. She’s taken on her email controversy with a long-winded, defensive explanation of her antics, and it’s just as stale and holier-than-thou as expected. It’s as if she’s too exhausted to be bothered by this debacle, and while that is understandable, it’s not the behavior of someone ready to run for office. Her team has since released a tiresome, long memo that the public will predictably ignore given that it’s long and voters don’t like to read.

The Clintons have always exuded elitism, which is welcome when it’s President Bill Clinton who compensates with his iconic oratory skills, but Hilary fails in that field. Watch her press conference below, and decide for yourself how she’ll fare when the heat turns up. This should have been squashed in two seconds, but she bungled it brilliantly.

Quote of the Day: Robin Wright on Sean Penn in Vanity Fair

“I’m not in the business of talking about what ‘isn’t. My eyes are set forward and I’ve never been happier. I have too much respect for Sean and our two extraordinary children to sell our past joys and woes for public consumption and fodder. I believe we were together not only to have our beautiful children but to learn how to love … for the next time around, the right way. ” Robin Wright on her marriage to Sean Penn.

Kendrick Lamar Releases Cover Art

With one of the most hotly-anticipated upcoming albums, Kendrick Lamar is playing up the pressure as any artistic genius would — slow, calculated, and crafty. He posted the cover art for his new album on instagram, with a caption that reads “Don’t all dogs go to heaven? Don’t Gangsta’s boogie? Do owl shit stank? Lions, Tigers & Bears. But TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY. Its the American dream nigga….” – lil Homie. The title is a play on Harper Lee’s 1960 novel ‘To Kill A Mockingbird.’ He’ll release his third studio album on March 23.

Elizabeth Hurley on WWHL: Talks Hugh Grant

After her current “best friend” and former flame of 13 years exposed intimate details about their fizzled sex life, it was Liz Hurley’s turn to tell her side of her failed relationship with Hugh Grant, and she took a much classier approach to her answer. Hurley simply said Grant was a little too grumpy for her liking, and although it’s charming in doses, it’s not sustainable 24/7. Watch below as delightfully plays along with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live’s “Plead the Fifth.”

Ciara Debuts “I Bet” Video With Sad Ballet Theme

I’d love to meet the genius who thought up a ballet concept behind Ciara’s “I Bet,” and simply phoned in the idea with point shoes and leg warmers. It pains me to point this out, but perhaps her team could have taken some tips from Kanye West’s epic “Runaway” idea. Either go big, or burn the shoes. And who advised the on-the-floor rowing choreography, and where’s the kayak ? I appreciate her physical head-shake to indicate the “no, no, no” lyrics, though. Because you know . . . those words are really confusing. WATCH BELOW, and try not to cringe when you get to the part where she ripped off Beyonce.

Robin Thicke has “Got to Give it Up” to the Gaye Family: LOSES LAWSUIT

In news we all saw coming, Robin Thicke lost to Marvin Gaye’s family, who fought to protect a tune they feel was clearly copied by Thicke and Pharrell. According to TMZ, this puts them on the hook for over $7 million, after complicated calculations of earnings. As for what’s next for Thicke, perhaps this will humble him (sources tell me the success went to his head — to say the least). Listen to both tracks below. Even a lay ear can recognize the infringement.

ABC Announces Two Bachelorettes: The Nation Objects

“Bachelor Nation” is apparently befuddled by ABC’s “alarming” decision to cast two leading ladies, jumping on the current trend to empower women instead of pitting them against one another. While that’s a cute social-media thought, it’s laughable. The entire Bachelor franchise is already abhorrent for women, so this current format is nothing new. And if you don’t watch, just know that there’s lots of crying, tattling, “cat fights,” and falling in love after four dates. This show is basically temptation island with better stylists. Watch below for the announcement. Good luck to ABC as they try to get either chick to say more than four words.
