Steven Tyler & Carrie Underwood — Best Duet at ACM Awards

Having duets at the American Country Music Awards was great in theory, and rough in execution.  Steven Tyler and Carrie Underwood were the only two artists to get it right.  Tyler entered the stage singing Underwood’s Undo It, and Carrie Underwood later sang Tyler’s Walk This Way.  This idea of artists crossing genres should have been consistent with each duet, but the producers missed the mark.  Instead, you had Rihanna singing California King Bed with Sugarland‘s Jennifer Nettles, but Jennifer Nettles didn’t sing a song by Rihanna.  To further confuse the theme, Brad Paisley sang with Alabama, who are being labeled in the press as “rockers,” even though they are both clearly country music artists.  That’s not exactly crossing genres. The ACM producers should call American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe to take some advice about executing performance themes.  Watch Underwood and Tyler below.

Howard Stern on Jimmy Fallon: Plays ‘Louie Louie’

Stern fans everywhere likely know why it’s so hilarious that he played Louie Louie on Jimmy Fallon.  For those that don’t listen to his show, aside from being ashamed of yourself, you should know that  Jimmy Kimmel threw Howard Stern a party the last time Stern visited Los Angeles, and Stern took great pride in playing Louie Louie with the other musicians at the party.  It’s apparently the only thing he can play, so it only makes sense that he’d break out his best hit for his Fallon appearance. Stern revealed during his interview that he’s only there to promote the new Sirius phone app, and he’s finished with talk show appearances altogether.  “It’s a lot of pressure to come out here, he said.  What, I gotta prove  myself to you?  I mean come on, really”  Since Jimmy Fallon is such a huge Howard Stern fan, he didn’t take offense.   I’m absolutely positive that we’ll see Stern on again, despite his retirement declaration.  His curmudgeon proclamations are always temporary.

Fox Created the American Country Awards? Country Music Overload?

Thanks to Fox, there are now four awards shows dedicated exclusively to country music: The CMA Awards, the ACM awards, the CMT awards, and now the American Country Awards (soon to be called the ACA awards, I imagine).  So why the country music overload, and should Carrie Underwood even be flattered that she won Artist of the Year at this newly created event?  Well, awards shows generate a lot of money, so Fox started to see dollar signs and created an excuse to get a bunch of celebrities in a room together.  After all, isn’t that why Dick Clark created the American Music Awards?  If they wanted a celebrity gathering to draw ratings, I assume they could have also brought cameras into a Los Angeles plastic surgeon’s office, but then the famous people wouldn’t be wearing pretty ball-gowns, and where’s the fun in that?

Best Television Shows — Do the Actors Keep in Touch?

I’m always wondering whether the actors from my favorite television shows still remain in touch.  I’ve done my research, and compiled a list below.  Enjoy!

MARRIED WITH CHILDREN

David Faustino revealed on Chelsea Lately that his Married With Children co-stars would be appearing in his new web series, Star-ving, because they really believed in the quality of the series. Though I’m sure his webisodes were good, something tells me that the continued friendship with his co-stars helped land their appearance. The revelation that they still keep in touch, made me yearn for the big-haired Peg Bundy. Married With Children might have been the first ‘Modern Family.’

ROSEANNE

John Goodman is a notorious curmudgeon in interviews. Not even James Lipton could break his guarded nature during Inside the Actors Studio. When asked on The View whether he keeps in touch with his Roseanne co-stars, he bluntly said no, and blamed it on himself. Judging from the picture above, they at least keep in touch at awards shows.

WINGS

Wings was one of my favorite shows in television history. The two brothers are still on my hot-man list, and I luckily get my Tim Daly fix on Private Practice. I couldn’t help but wonder whether Tim Daly and Steven Weber keep in touch. The picture above was very recently taken, so I’m happy to report that they are still friends.

FULL HOUSE

Every time John Stamos appears on Howard Stern’s radio show, Stern tells him to have sex with the Olsen twins. Stamos says he just couldn’t do it, but a small part of me thinks he might. The entire cast of Full House say they keep in touch, though I suspiciously have never seen a picture of the Olsen twins with any of them. But six out of eight isn’t bad.

BEVERLY HILLS 90210

Ian Ziering said in a recent interview, that he wanted to do a 90210 reunion, but The CW couldn’t make it happen. Apparently, the entire cast was willing to appear. In fact, at Jason Priestly’s wedding, many 90210 cast members showed up, including, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Tiffani Thiessen and Tori Spelling.

SEINFELD

There isn’t much need to answer whether the Seinfeld cast still talks, because they all appeared on a Curb Your Enthusiasm reunion show.

SAVED BY THE BELL

Jimmy Fallon tried and failed to get the Saved By The Bell cast to reunite on his show. He was forced to have a California Dreams reunion instead.  They later reunited for People Magazine, with the exception of Dustin Diamond, who wasn’t invited due to a ridiculous “tell-all” book about his fellow cast-mates.

Jimmy Fallon Impersonates Kate Gosselin’s ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Performance

This is definitely worth taking the time to watch.  I’m not sure I realized just how challenged Gosselin is at the art of dance until I watched Fallon’s impersonation.  I’m still rooting for her though.  Watch it below, and click on the second video if you want to see Gosselin’s original performance.

‘California Dreams’ Reunion on Jimmy Fallon

Not sure if anyone remembers this show, but I absolutely loved it!  It came on after ‘Saved by the Bell.’  Jimmy Fallon got the cast to reunite and update on their current lives.  They also sang the great theme song from the show!  It does sort of depress me that though that this show was the high point of their careers in the industry.  I really did think they would all be huge stars one day.  Sigh…the delusions of youth.
