Idea of the Day: Julianne Hough and Derek Hough – The Next ‘Donnie & Marie

With all the remakes and ripoffs in the entertainment industry, I’m surprised no one has thought of this.  Derek and Julianne Hough, the brother/sister dancing duo on ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ should get together and host a variety style talk show.  They’re both beautiful to look at, and all attempts to venture out of the dancing world and start other projects, have pretty much fallen flat.  Why?  Because they never tried this idea before.  To top off the strange Donnie & Marie connection, the two are both Mormons.  They grew up in Utah and moved to London at an early age to further their dancing careers (where they interestingly trained with the parents of fellow ‘Dancing With the Stars’ professional, Mark Ballas).  Though it pains me to admit this, I did not actually come up with this idea on my own.  An executive at my office did, and he gave me permission to take full credit.  I just couldn’t do it though.  So in an effort to maintain his anonymity while still making him sound cool, I’ll just call him C-Dog.  If anyone steals this idea though without forking over some major dough, I’ll sue you.  Hear that dancing duo?

Kate Gosselin’s Dancing With the Stars Salary Revealed – How Much Did She Earn?

In case you were wondering why Kate Gosselin would fly across the country every week to compete on Dancing With the Stars, the answer has been revealed.  Popeater reports that Gosselin made $100,000 per episode, which means that she took home a grand total of $500,000.  This paycheck does not surprise me.  Gosselin was the biggest draw of the season, and after she left the ratings went down significantly.  That explains why they brought her back for the finale, despite all of the reports about her being difficult.  She sure is doing well lately.  With her two new TLC shows, I don’t think she’ll have a problem feeding her eight children.  Do you think Jon contributes at all anymore?

Dancing With the Stars Re-Airs Yesterday’s Episode – Are you Joking?

Am I hallucinating?  Why on earth would the geniuses at ABC choose to re-air yesterday’s show?  Oh wait . . . it just occurred to me.  They are trying to compete with the ‘American Idol’ finale from 8:00 to 9:00 pm.  You guys don’t have any original programming?  After all, last night’s show is already uploaded on the ABC website.  I wouldn’t be so infuriated if I didn’t momentarily think I lost my sanity  while watching this repeat.

Dancing With the Stars Finale – The Choreographers Need Choreographers?

Three couples competed for the coveted mirror ball trophy on tonight’s ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ and it was . . . interesting.  Both Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Anna Trebunskaya needed a little extra help from an outside choreographer for their routine.  Am I the only person that thinks this is ridiculous?  I understand that they are only trained in ballroom, but then why don’t you design a free-style routine that is a twist on ball-room?  If you’re unable to choreograph outside of your genre, then you can’t do that routine.  Simple enough.  You didn’t see Derek Hough bringing in outside help, and his routine was the best of them all.  Watch Derek and Nicole’s free-style below.

Julianne Hough is Returning to ‘Dancing With the Stars’

I think Julianne Hough finally got the memo.  When you want to break into country music, performing (even as a dancer) on the biggest show on television might help you out a little.  Julianne quit the show because she wanted to be taken more seriously as a country music singer, and now she’s coming back.  The last time we saw her on ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ she was dancing with her then boyfriend Chuck Wicks.  They have since broken up.  I’m guessing that DWTS will pair her up with the fattest, oldest celebrity just to punish her a little.

Paula Abdul v. ‘X-Factor’ – "Show Me The Money"

Just how many deals can Paula Abdul’s management team mess up?  Sources report that Abdul’s “diva demands” are holding up her contract negotiations on ‘X-Factor.’ Since Abdul changed management, she left ‘American Idol,’ her ‘Star Search’ negotiations fell through, she “turned down” the opportunity to co-host ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ and she rejected a judging gig on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ because they didn’t have “Idol money.” It’s time for Simon Cowell to have a sit down with Paula Abdul.

Maskim Chmerkovskiy Attacks Len Goodman

I saw this one coming.  Maksim bashed Len Goodman’s critique of his dance last night, telling him that he might be “too old to be a judge.”  He also went on to cite his very long dancing resume as evidence that he knows what he’s doing.  I love Maks, but perhaps he can explain to me why he is on a dancing with a judging panel if he doesn’t want to be judged.  That is the very nature of the show.  If you can’t handle it, then go back to the ballroom where the judges don’t speak to you directly.  Maks isn’t the first professional to lash out at the judges.  Tony Dovolani has consistently attacked Carrie Ann Inaba’s ability to judge, as she was never a professional ballroom dancer.  Len Goodman; however, was a ballroom dancing champion, but I suppose even that isn’t good enough.  Get it together guys.  Watch the performance in question below.

Tony Dovolani Takes a Dig at Carrie Ann Inaba on ‘Dancing With the Stars’?

On tonight’s ‘DWTS,’ Tony Dovolani wrote “Tony loves Carrie Ann” on a chalkboard as part of his dance with Kate Gosselin.  I found this particularly interesting, because Dovolani and Inaba have had so much friction in the past.  In an interview with People, he questioned her dancing expertise, saying “she does not understand what ballroom dancing is.  She’s never done it herself.”  It’s possible they’ve made up since his interview, and this was just a fun little poke at her.  It’s also possible that he still dislikes her and enjoyed the dig.  Watch below and judge for yourself.

Dancing with the Stars Beats American Idol Again

Sure they only won by about a million viewers, but that’s enough to signify what I think is the beginning of the end for the Idol powerhouse.  DWTS had 21.21 million viewers, while Idol had 20.84.  This doesn’t surprise me, given that this is the worst season of ‘American Idol’ in the history of the show.  The ship is sinking.  Maybe the judges were just too lazy this time around to pick a decent crop of kids for us to vote on.  Either that or Kara DioGuardi and this horrific four judge panel needs to be done with.
