Howard Stern is on Vacation — Goodbye August — & September?

When I discovered that Howard Stern is on vacation for the second week in a row in August, I became infuriated. How am I supposed to get through my work day without him? And before you insist that it’s unproductive to listen to the radio while working, I’d like to remind you disrespectful lunatics that I passed the bar exam (on the the first try) while listening to Stern all day, and there is no better judge of productivity than that. And now — time for my rant.

While it’s true that Stern is the only entertainer at his level that is still forced to work terrible hours, I still take issue with his consistent absences. First, he never announces them, which leads to intense disappointment when I grab my morning coffee and turn on my radio. Second, his replacement programming sucks. Why won’t he play his best interviews while he’s on vacation? Instead, he plays old shows that aren’t nearly as good as his newer stuff.

When a fan recently complained to Stern about his excessive vacation schedule, Stern responded with, “Then you gotta cancel your service. I will never rip you off. If you feel dissatisfied with the amount of shows I’m doing you should absolutely leave the company and leave the service….I will always be honest with my fans…I hope you stay with us, but if you don’t c’est la vie.”

I’m sure the fan in question will not in fact cancel his service — and neither will I. After all, isn’t something better than nothing? Isn’t it better to have 20% of someone than 0% of them? I have to take a step back from that philosophy to remind myself that it is the same sordid analysis I used while recently dating an emotionally unavailable man. So Stern — if you’re reading this — I want 100% of you.

Adam Carolla Insults the LGBT Community — Gives Crappy Apology

I used to love Adam Carolla. In fact, I thought he was the next Howard Stern. Then I started listening to his radio show after he took Stern’s terrestrial radio spot, and I quickly realized he’s not even close. Aside from the fact that he’s not nearly as self-realized or honest as Stern, he’s also a mean spirited asshole. His most recent debacle involves statements about transgendered people, asking “when everyone got lumped in with the gays,” and insisting that the LGBT community should drop their current acronym and insert ‘YUCK’ in its place. According to reports, Carolla previously said on ‘Loveline’ that gay parents are not as good as straight parents. To think that my original beef with Carolla involved his arbitrary insults toward other comedians such as Jim Breuer and Chelsea Handler. It’s fair to say that I now have something much more legitimate to be angry about. Carolla responded to the controversy, saying, “I’m sorry my comments were hurtful. I’m a comedian, not a politician.” Nice try, Carolla. You can’t make an insensitive joke at a time when gay bullying is such a sensitive issue and expect to get away with it.

Quote of the Day — Is Andy Dick an Anti-Semite?

“He’s a nice guy underneath all the Jewyness . . . . I have no problem with his big fat hook nose . . . and his money grubbing Jewyness. . . . He’s a shallow money-grubbing Jew.” — Andy Dick’s anti-Semitic rant on Howard Stern after Stern canceled Dick’s show because of Dick’s inappropriate antics.

George Lopez Canceled — Is it Conan’s Fault?

I feel bad for George Lopez. The guy had a moderately successful show, and then Conan’s late night debacle forced him into a new time-slot. At the time, he was supportive, assuming that a great lead-in could only help his ratings. Unfortunately, Conan didn’t deliver his expected audience numbers, and George Lopez suffered. But when you look at the big picture, here’s the nutshell summary — Conan did to George what Jay did to Conan. Sure Conan likely asked for George’s permission when he joined TBS, but in the end, he still hurt Lopez’s numbers. It’s not my style to pick on Conan O’Brien. I used to be such a huge fan of his show. But he should have stayed in his original time-slot. He was chasing after the dream of “being the next Johnny Carson,” and that arbitrary goal got in the way of pragmatic decision-making. Now he’s suffering. And furthermore — he should have gone to Fox instead of TBS.

Howard Stern’s Advance ‘Super 8’ Screener Leaks Online — HILARIOUS

If you’re a Howard Stern fan, then you’re aware of his vehement disdain for movie studios that refuse to send him screeners. According to Stern, he’s the only guy in showbiz that doesn’t get advance copies, because he’s considered a media reject that the studios don’t trust. In a very ironic turn of events, it appears that Stern received a screener of Super 8, and his copy leaked online. Apparently, Stern’s name was water marked in the bottom right hand corner of the film. So can the King of All Media not be trusted, after all? This certainly doesn’t bode well for his future screeners, but it sure is funny.

Lady Gaga Sings ‘Edge of Glory’ on Howard Stern — Magical

I have to admit that I’m not a Lady Gaga fan. I find her to be indulgent and inauthentic. Plus, I don’t love her music. Having said that, her performance of ‘Edge of Glory’ on Howard Stern blew me away. Dave Grohl once said that his acoustic performance of ‘Everlong’ on Howard Stern put Foo Fighters on the map, and I have a feeling Gaga will join Grohl in the Howard Stern history books. Listen below.

Artie Lange Returns to Radio — But Not With Howard Stern

Artie Lange finally returned to the radio air-waves, but he curiously talked with Nick DiPaolo and not Howard Stern. His choice of venue might make you scratch your head. After all, wouldn’t the great Howard Stern want Artie’s first interview since his suicide attempt? Before you question Artie’s loyalty, you might like to know that Howard Stern won’t let Artie back on the show. How do I know this? — Because it comes straight from the horse’s mouth. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Stern said, “[Artie] said to me recently that he would be willing to come on the air and explain what happened and stuff. I don’t even feel strong enough within myself or that I’d be doing the right thing by him, because I don’t want to do the wrong thing for Artie. I just want Artie to stay alive.” So there you have it. Stern took on a lot of guilt when Artie attempted suicide, so much so that he rarely mentions him on the air. Though his fans have complained, Stern insists that he doesn’t feel right discussing him. That’s probably the right decision.
