Katy Perry Talks Taylor Swift Feud

Though I’m not a massive fan of Katy Perry’s music, I’ve always liked her character, Sure I don’t know her personally, but she seems exceptionally shrewd in interviews and her barbs at other stars seem more thoughtful than petty. One such star is Taylor Swift, who accused Katy Perry of “sabotaging” her arena tour by poaching her dancers, a thought that later inspired the song “Bad Blood.” Instead of exchanging more passive aggressive barbs, Perry clarified the details with a curt account of the facts. Here they are. Three of Perry’s loyal backup dancers joined Swift’s tour. Before committing, they called Perry who said that although she was not currently touring, she’d hit the road in about a year, so the dancers should place a contingency clause inside their contracts. When the dancers approached the Swift staff about exiting, they were immediately fired. Perry tried to call Swift to straighten out the mess, but according to Perry, she never answered and instead opted to talk about it in the press.

I’m team Perry on this one. First, in almost every industry two weeks notice is an acceptable method of leaving. If an exit would tank a tour, that’s why you create contracts. If the contract has a contingency clause, that’s on your for allowing it. Second, it’s okay to vent through music, but when you identify a party involve and therefore individually assault their character, that moves from venting to bad-mouthing, and I’d like to think we’re more adult. Third, I hate to jump on the feminism band-wagon, but you can’t champion women’s rights and then create a song and video called “Bad Blood.” It’s just hypocrisy.

Ruby Rose v. Katy Perry v. Taylor Swift: Inside a Childish Feud

There are many artists I don’t like. There are many musicians I think are sell-outs, hypocrites, or simply a product of a machine I resent. When I saw the nominations for album of the year at the Grammys, for example, I found myself enraged at the thought that Sturgill Simpson was the only artist to actually write his own album — alone. In fact, I once likened Adam Levine to Britney Spears to prove the point that he no longer was worthy of his ‘Songs About Jane’ entrance into the industry. He had become part of the machine, and was therefore nothing but a pop star spouting Sia songs. Having said all that, there’s something about Ruby Rose’s hit at Katy Perry that incited my rage. Her tweet is below.

Rose received a predictable backlash, but she stood firm, saying:

So who is she standing up for, and what exactly is mean spirited — except for her, of course? Here’s the story in a nutshell. Ruby Rose and Taylor Swift are friends. Perry and Swift had a falling out when Perry recruited Swift’s dancers during Swift’s national tour. Swift addressed the move in a public interview, saying that Perry tried to sabotage her tour by poaching her people. Perry’s dancers spoke up, saying that they were closer to Perry, and since Swift’s tour wasn’t exactly dance-heavy, they felt bored. When the opportunity arose to jump ship, they took it. Swift subsequently released “Bad Blood,” which was an obvious hit at Perry. Perry then released a not-so-cryptic tweet referring to Swift as Regina George in sheep’s clothing. Joe Jonas’ ex-girlfriend jumped on the train, pointing out that Swift bashed her with some not-so-friendly lyrics in retaliation for “stealing” Jonas. In summary, the Perry camp felt Swift parades herself as supportive of other women, yet she’s the opposite. I can only assume Rose thinks of Perry as “mean-spirited” as a result.

While I agree that Katy Perry’s new music is less than stellar (to say the least), I also agree that Swift is no innocent lamb, which was especially apparent when Kim Kardashian revealed that Swift played victim over a song she in fact approved. She’s cunning and calculated. Having said all that, these celebrities are little babies in need of a pacifier. Keep your mouth shut, Ms. Rose. I love a genuine, honest critique, but not when it’s agenda-driven, clearly biased, and unnecessary.

Celebrities Dumped Via Text Message: He Said/She Said

Katy Perry & Russell Brand

She Said: “He’s a very smart man, and I was in love with him when I married him. Let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011.”

He Said: We did work it out, she’s happy, I’m happy. I was really, really in love with her, but it was difficult to see each other, it mostly didn’t work for practical reasons.

Perrie Edwards & Zayn Malik

She Said: “It was horrible, the worst time in my life. A four-year relationship, two-year engagement ended by a simple text message. Just like that. Even though things in my career were going really well, it was incredibly difficult for me.”

He Said: “I have more respect for Perrie than to end anything over text message. I love her a lot, and I always will, and I would never end our relationship over four years like that. She knows that, I know that, and the public should know that as well. I don’t want to explain why or what I did. I just want the public to know I didn’t do that.”

Kevin Federline & Britney Spears

His SOURCE said: “He had no idea it was coming. In fact, he had been looking into a possible divorce. She beat him to the punch.”

She said: ‘I think I married for the wrong reasons. Instead of following my heart and doing something that made me really happy, I just did it for the idea of everything.’

Terri Seymour & Simon Cowell

He said: Terri decided to dump me… [She] sent me a text.”

She said: “You’re with someone for six years and you end it with a text message? I don’t think so! No, it wasn’t ended over the phone and it wasn’t ended by text.

Taylor Swift & Joe Jonas

She said: “It’s all right – I’m cool. You know what, it’s like, when I find that person that is right for me, he’ll be wonderful When I look at that person, I’m not even going to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 27 seconds when I was 18.”

He said: “For those who have expressed concern over the ’27 second’ phone call, I called to discuss feelings with the other person. Those feelings were obviously not well received. I did not end the conversation. Someone else did. Phone calls can only last as long as the person on the other end of the line is willing to talk.”

Carrie Underwood & Chace Crawford

She said: “We broke up over text so… it’s like ‘peace out'”

His SOURCE said: “He flew to visit her, went on tour with her—he did everything he could for this girl. But in the end, Crawford “is the one who said, ‘Enough is enough.’ He was upset, but he also had to make the decision that it wasn’t meant to be anymore.”

Calvin Harris Release “My Way” — Is it About Taylor Swift?

It always blows my mind how one massive celebrity can launch/solidify careers of every hanger on imaginable. In the case of Calvin Harris, for example, nearly every woman he dates post-Taylor Swift will receive a nugget of fame, because the world wants to know who the potentially broken-hearted man will find as a rebound. As for Tom Hiddleston, it will have the opposite effect. The man was Loki, a serious actor with an impressive resume, and for a brief moment in time, he was that guy wearing a I <3 Taylor Swift shirt at her July 4th party.

Calvin Harris might be talented in his own right, but his new song, “My Way” is grabbing attention for another reason, and it’s that the public wants to know if Taylor Swift is its subject. In fact, he repeats, “You were the one thing in my way,” A LOT, which isn’t exactly a Sunday New York Times crossword. It is worth nothing that man might need a lyricist. When Taylor Swift does this type of thing, there’s many, many more words. Listen below.

Scott Eastwood Dishes the Dirt to GQ Australia

I must admit my unfair assumption that Scott Eastwood was nothing but a pretty face riding the connections of his father’s career, but after reading his interview with GQ Australia, I’ve changed my mind. Read some quotes from his interview below, and click HERE for more.

On the tragic death of his girlfriend

Her airbag exploded. It shot a projectile through her body. It split her spine, and um… I’ve never told anybody that. I’ve lost friends before; I’ve lost some great friends. But, I had never lost someone I had been really intimate with, you know, like in that way, in a relationship. I think that really affected me in a way that… I don’t know. Maybe it’s made it harder for me to date.”

On his role in Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams” video

[My agents] were saying things like, ‘Why would you want to go be Taylor Swift’s boy toy?’ And I go, ‘Well, why wouldn’t I? Are you kidding?

On Clint Eastwood’s parenting style when he found out Scott left his 14-year-old sister at a party alone.

He popped me and said, ‘You don’t ever leave your sister at a party. EVER.’ And it was very old-school, very old-school of him. He wasn’t afraid. None of this new-age bullshit where you can’t even smack the kid because everyone’s afraid of being judged or whatever. That wasn’t the way that shit went down in that family.

On having more success with women as a bartender than an actor

“That was probably the wildest time… It still beats out being in movies or whatever. It still beats out all that, a thousand times.”

How Kim Kardashian Just Tanked Taylor Swift’s Career

Is there anything better than watching two rich divas duke it out, especially when one such diva has perpetuated a squeaky clean image of propriety? Such was the case when Kim Kardashian West boldly released footage of her husband, Kanye West, receiving verbal approval from Taylor Swift for using her name in his song, ‘Famous,’ which is featured in his most recent record, ‘The Life of Pablo.’ During the phone call, Kanye can be heard reciting the lyric, “To all my southside n—-s that know me best, I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex,” to which Taylor responds, “it’s like a compliment, kind of,” and “It’s obviously very tongue in cheek.” She then mentioned the flowers sent to her by Kanye and bragged about the amount of likes the photo received.

Kim Kardashian had previously proclaimed Swift’s consent to the lyric, and Swift’s team countered with condescension, implying that Kim was merely her husband’s puppet, saying:

Taylor does not hold anything against Kim Kardashian as she recognizes the pressure Kim must be under and that she is only repeating what she has been told by Kanye West. However, that does not change the fact that much of what Kim is saying is incorrect. Kanye West and Taylor only spoke once on the phone while she was on vacation with her family in January of 2016 and they have never spoken since. Taylor has never denied that conversation took place. It was on that phone call that Kanye West also asked her to release the song on her Twitter account, which she declined to do. Kanye West never told Taylor he was going to use the term ‘that bitch’ in referencing her. A song cannot be approved if it was never heard. Kanye West never played the song for Taylor Swift. Taylor heard it for the first time when everyone else did and was humiliated. Kim Kardashian’s claim that Taylor and her team were aware of being recorded is not true, and Taylor cannot understand why Kanye West, and now Kim Kardashian, will not just leave her alone.

Kim also claimed that Swift was set to reveal her approval at the Grammys, but backtracked, which can also be heard in the conversation when Swift says, “right after the song comes out I’m going to be on a Grammys red carpet and they’re going to ask me about it and I’ll be like, ‘He called me.'” Swift immediately countered on twitter, insisting that although she can be heard approving the sex line, she cannot be heard approving the words, “that bitch,” as if the tiny dichotomy makes a difference. Plus, her entire Grammy speech was about Kanye wrongfully taking credit for her success, not about the misogyny of the word “bitch.” In fact, Swift also says, “You honestly didn’t know who I was before that. It doesn’t matter that I sold 7 million of that album before you did that which is what happened, you didn’t know who I was before that. It’s fine.” I can only assume that’s in reference to the line about making her famous. And though she has tried to worm out of this by claiming she was never “played the song,” for approval, as one twitter user rightfully pointed out, she did not call John Mayer for approval of “Dear John,” nor did she call the plethora of other exes she bashed in her music using very specific references to their identity. Furthermore, most rappers don’t call for approval at all. Ask Eminem.

To quote Katy Perry, Taylor Swift is “Regina George in sheep’s clothing,” and she’s been exposed. It’s time to stop attacking Kanye and open our eyes to the Swift machine that is now breaking down. Having said that, it must be noted that an industry insider friend of mine is insistent that this is one big publicity stunt involving all three parties, and it’s spinning too far out of control. He predicts that there will be a very public amends, followed by an appearance by Kanye on Taylor’s upcoming record, which is all part of the master plan or long game. It’s certainly possible, and time will tell.
