Catherine Zeta Jones and Scarlett Johansson Get a Written Smackdown For Snubbing Tony Reporters

According to the Los Angeles Times, both Scarlett Johansson and Catherine Zeta-Jones angered reporters at the Tony Awards, when they abruptly bolted without giving interviews.  It’s apparently standard practice for winners to grant interviews after the show, and all of the non-Hollywood stars/true theater actors, gladly spoke with the press.  To be fair, Broadway has never taken kindly to the Hollywood crossover, so it’s possible that these girls are getting picked on, but this news certainly doesn’t surprise me.  There are just so many great parties to attend after the show – and . . . well they already got their statue.  Oh yeah – and isn’t Broadway lucky to have them in the first place?  Perhaps next time the press should find a way to hold that statue hostage until after they interview.  Alright – I’ve retired from Hollywood bashing for today.

The Tony Awards: My Favorite Performance – Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison (video)

With the exception of a few performances, I didn’t really like this year’s Tony Awards.  It felt a bit stale, and only ‘American Idiot’ gave me the desire to fly to New York and see a Broadway show.  Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele easily stole the show for me, and used their stage chops to show that they sound just as good live as they do on ‘Glee.’  As an aside, I refuse to believe that Matthew Morrison is straight.  I realize he was engaged to a woman, and claims to be a heterosexual, but I’d like to believe that the reason I can’t have him all to myself is because he just doesn’t like women in general.  That has to be the reason right?  Watch the performance below.

Tom Cruise and JLO Get Down and Dirty at the Mtv Movie Awards (Video)

It’s official.  We are can all start loving Tom Cruise again.  Cruise made an appearance at the Mtv Movie Awards as Les Grossman, his hilarious character from ‘Tropic Thunder.’  He was joined by Jennifer Lopez, who appropriately slapped his ass.  Watch below, and when you are done – I don’t want to ever hear a negative word about Tom Cruise again.  From here on out – the era of Cruise hating is over.

Sandra Bullock Accepts her Mtv Award – I’m in Love With Her (video)

Sandra Bullock continues to impress me.   All celebrities need to take a note out of Bullock’s PR handbook.  In her speech at the Mtv Movie Awards, she attacked this Jesse James thing head-on, which is the best way to make it go away.  She confirmed that she is “not dead” and that she is not taking an extended break from acting.  Oh yeah – and she admitted to having cellulite (which makes me very happy).  Watch the video below.  YOU GO, GIRL!

Tom Cruise Reprises Tropic Thunder Character for MTV Movie Awards (Video)

I know there are a lot of Tom Cruise haters in the world, but I happen to love him.  I think he’s brilliant, and the video below is evidence of that.  In the first video, Cruise plays Tropic Thunder’s Les Grossman, the disgusting studio exec that is lending his words of wisdom to Robert Pattinson.  The second video is even better.  Rumor has it that Cruise’s character in the film was modeled after Harvey Weinstein.

Sandra Bullock & the Razzie – Does this Stupid Story Ever End?

Sandra Bullock was asked to the return her Razzie, because she accidentally took home the original trophy instead of the replica.  If she did in fact go home with the original, why not just contact her people and tell them directly?  Could it be because John Wilson (the ceremony’s co-founder) hopes to bring a little press to the Razzie awards?  It certainly helps that Sandra Bullock is at the center of a tabloid scandal.  Must you capitalize on her misfortune by publicizing an issue that could have been resolved privately?   Bullock’s publicist confirmed my suspicion, when she said “We were never contacted by them to return the Razzie. I contacted them yesterday to check the validity of the story and was only told then that we had been given the wrong award. We will be returning the Razzie to them shortly.”  Really classy, guys.

Peabody Award Winners Announced

The George Foster Peabody Awards are given annually by the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication to recognize outstanding work in electronic media.  The actual awards ceremony will be hosted by Diane Sawyer, on  May 17th.  I’m most surprised about the Craig Ferguson win.  I suppose he was accurate when he said he doesn’t even consider himself to be amongst the other late night television hosts.  He said that he instead “does a TV show that goes on late at night.”  Getting this award lends some credibility to that distinction.  See the list of winners below.

Red Carpet Fashion: American Cinematheque Awards

Here are some pictures from the American Cinematheque’s awards event.  The ‘American Cinematheque’ is a local, non-profit organization in Los Angeles dedicated to cinema.  Every year, it presents an award to a film-maker.  Past recipients include: Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Ron Howard.  This year, Matt Damon was selected, which made for some pretty funny jokes from Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck.   Interestingly, both Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel attended the the event with their new significant others.  Awkward?

Simon Cowell Will Receive Honorary Emmy

Simon Cowell is receiving an International Emmy Founders Award for “having reshaped 21st century television and music around the world.” According to Bruce Paisner, President of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Cowell has “changed the face of TV around the world.” Wow, that is quite the honor. Although ‘American Idol’ has been very successful, let us not forget that that show was Simon Fuller’s idea and not Simon Cowell’s. It began as ‘Pop Idol’ in England. Furthermore, ‘X Factor,’ is Cowell’s ripoff of Fuller’s idea, which Fuller later sued him for. The matter settled out of court and now Fuller is credited as a creator on ‘X Factor.’ I’m not saying he isn’t worthy of the honor, but lets not sit around and pretend the guy is Aaron Spelling. I think he’s more of a Television personality than he is a series creator.
