Ryan Murphy Cancels Glee Spin-Off — Blames His Actors

Has your poor behavior ever pissed someone off, yet their reaction is far worse than your original misstep? Such is the case with the consistently temperamental Ryan Murphy, the creator of Glee. Murphy isn’t pleased with his three key players, which includes Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, and Cory Montieth. In case you have not heard, Murphy announced to the press that Colfer, Michele, and Montieth would be “graduating,” thereby taking them off the show (or at least seriously reducing their services on the show). The press got wind, and said the actors had been “fired,” and Chris Colfer subsequently claimed to have found out about this news via twitter. Murphy wasn’t pleased about Chris’ claim, presumably because it made Murphy look like a heartless prick who talked to the press before notifying his actors. Predictably — Murphy is firing back — and I can only assume these actors are running for cover. According to Murphy, they knew all along, and he was even in talks to do a spin-off with them after Glee. They were therefore aware that they were leaving the show, and were not “fired via twitter.” As a result of their alleged misrepresentation, Murphy and the powers-that-be over at Fox have decided to punish them by nixing the spin-off. I have a few things to say about this. Ryan Murphy might need some anger management counseling. Second, Having said that, he’s still the creator of the show, which means it’s extremely disrespectful and stupid to publicly insult him. But why should Lea Michele and Cory Montieth be punished for what Chris Colfer said? They smartly kept their mouth shut. Should the entire class be punished for the actions of that one student who throws paper airplanes at the teacher?

Kat Von D Gets Jesse James Tattoo Before Break-Up — Great idea

There is always a moment in every one of my past relationships where I have acted completely psychotic and fully expect to be dumped. After watching the clip below, I officially think I’m the most level-headed chick on the planet. In a clip from the upcoming season of ‘LA Ink,’ Kat Von D surprised Jesse James with a tattoo of his face that she copied from one of his childhood photos. In case you have not heard, they are now broken up. Have I mentioned the joy of being a Jew, and how I’ve happily complied with our no-tattoo policy? What the hell was she thinking? I won’t even show up to a dude’s apartment with a surprise dinner for fear that he’ll think I’m annoying, let alone getting permanently inked with his face! Furthermore, couldn’t she have just tattooed his name in small letters, instead of picking an unflattering, awkward picture of the guy? To make matters worse — he doesn’t look happy. The word “embarrassing” would be an understatement. When ‘Good Day LA’ aired the clip prior to her appearance, Von D was so pissed she left the show. Watch below.

Simon Fuller Sues Fox & Fremantle over X-Factor — He’s Right!

Here’s the history of the Simon Cowell v. Simon Fuller feud in a nutshell. Simon Fuller created a show in the UK called ‘Pop Idol,’ which is where Simon Cowell got his television start. At the time, the Simons were good friends. Cowell then jumped ship by creating ‘X Factor,’ which was basically a rip-off of ‘Pop Idol.’ Since Cowell was deemed a “creator” of ‘X Factor’ (a credit he did not get on Pop Idol), he received a lot more money for the new show. Fuller sued Cowell, claiming that ‘X Factor’ was a rip off of Pop Idol (which it was). The parties settled, and the settlement included Fuller getting Executive Producer credit on ‘X Factor’ (and most likely a percentage of the back-end profit). So here’s where it gets sticky. Simon Cowell pulled the same move twice, by jumping ship on ‘American Idol’ in favor of ‘X Factor’ (note: the same rule applies — Cowell stands to receive much more money because he’s a creator of ‘X Factor’ and he is not a creator of American Idol). Fuller sued, saying that according to their original settlement, he should receive Executive Producer credit on the American version of ‘X Factor.’ Are you ready for Fox’s official response? They said, “His suit seeks payment and credit as an executive producer despite his neither having been approved by the required parties, nor hired, as such. We believe this lawsuit is without merit and we expect to prevail.” Nice try, guys. It’s completely irrelevant whether the “parties” approved him as an Executive Producer or whether he actually rendered any services on the new show. What matters is his settlement. He created a show, his friend ripped him off, and he’s entitled to some dough. That’s the long and short of it.

Quote of the Day — Thomas Jane

“Well, Joel Silver came on board the project and said that he has a quote-unquote ‘formula’ for these quote-unquote ‘buddy movies’ and it has to be a white guy and a quote-unquote ‘ethnic guy.’ And they relieved me of duty and basically paid me off, which I was really upset about, you know? I didn’t get a call from Stallone. I was a little upset about that. Maybe they didn’t want anybody on the movie with a bigger dick than him.” Thomas Jane on why he got fired from Sylvestor Stallone’s new movie, ‘Headshot.’

Did Steven Spielberg Instruct Michael Bay to Fire Megan Fox over Hitler Comments?

I’m not one of those Jews that takes personal offense to the colloquial mentions of Nazism or Hitler. Just don’t call me cheap, though — then I’ll kill you. Apparently, Steven Spielberg doesn’t share in my let-it-roll-off-my-back way of living. In the war of the words between Michael Bay and Megan Fox, Fox compared Michael Bay’s on-set antics to Adolf Hitler. According to Bay, Spielberg said, “fire her right now,” after hearing the comments. So is this true, or is this a desperate attempt by Michael Bay to erase the history of his consistent bad press? I’m not sure, but the time line seems suspicious. Technically, Fox wasn’t “fired,” but instead — her option was not renewed. To put it simply, the movie studio had the option of employing her for the the third film, and they chose not to. Had they wanted her (or had they “picked up her option”), she would have been contractually bound to return for the third installment. They chose not to renew her option at the eleventh hour, which was far later than when she originally made the comments. Translation? — I’m not sure I believe Michael Bay.

Paris Hilton Pissed at Barbara Walters — Was Babs Too Tough on Her?

Rumor has it that Paris Hilton was furious with her interview on The View because of Barbara Walters’ interrogation. Believe it or not, I actually side with Paris Hilton. If you watch the interview below, Barbara asked some very judgmental questions. She pointed out that Paris resented her community service and complained that she didn’t want to get out of bed. Barbara said she should have been pleased to help prisoners instead of complaining about her “high heels.” Here’s the thing — Does anyone actually like doing community service? Perhaps I’m a heartless prick, but every time I do something good I complain the entire time. What’s the fun in giving if you can’t kvetch about it? And furthermore, no one really believes that Paris Hilton is a “business woman.” So if you’re going to invite her on your show then you better be nice. You shouldn’t be inviting annoying guests just so you can publicly lambaste them.

Roger Ebert Still Hates ‘Thor’ — Won’t Apologize for Movie Review

Leave it to Roger Ebert stand firm amidst harsh criticism. In a nutshell, Ebert hated Thor, and the Thor fans attacked him. Instead of apologizing or re-evaluating his review, Ebert explained his points, and as expected, I’m once again flooded with Roger Ebert love. I’ve posted some choice quotes from his non-apology below. Sit back and enjoy it, because no one can engage in a war of the words quite like Roger Ebert.

On Fan Hatred of his Review

After my “Thor” review hit the fan, I was pummeled by outraged comments. A large number cited factual inaccuracies and speculated that I had not seen the movie at all. Some stated that as a fact. One called for me to be fired. Of course I saw the movie. I haven’t spent 44 years at this to start making things up now. I might indeed question how many other movies some of my correspondents have seen, since they confused “Thor” with a good film.

On getting one of the robot’s name wrong in his review

With some films every frame seems to register. Others have a strange quality of slipping wraith-like through my mind without hitting any brain cells. If the robot was named the Destroyer, the best reason for my failure to recall its name was that I just didn’t give a damn.

On His Inaccuracies in describing the film’s plot

Obviously my mistake was to get into the plot at all. One of my weaknesses is to play with the logic of preposterous movies like this. I consider that an amusing exercise, to be read as entertainment and not taken so damned seriously.

On Thor Being a Bad Movie

Does it make a movie “good” because you “like” it? No, it doesn’t, and I have liked a lot of bad movies. It is helpful to separate one’s immediate amusement from more lasting standards. “Thor” is a minor superhero movie with a boring back story and an underwhelming weapon (his hammer).

Rob Lowe & Bradley Cooper Insult Sarah Jessica Parker — Two Idiots

When celebrities insult other celebrities, it either makes me extremely happy or extremely annoyed. If the subject of the insult is actually a jerk, I think it’s great to publicly expose bad behavior. But they better be a jerk. Rob Lowe and Bradley Cooper recently insulted Sarah Jessica Parker on ‘The Graham Norton Show,’ and after seeing their complaints, it occurred to me that Rob Lowe and Bradley Cooper are the jerks in the story. According to Lowe, Parker was pissed that Lowe got her eye color wrong in his new book and she told a third party who relayed the message. Cooper has a similar story. He appeared beside Parker in an episode of ‘Sex and the City,’ and Parker asked someone to tell Cooper not to stick his tongue in her mouth. Apparently, both these stories mean Sarah Jessica Parker is rude. Explain to me why it’s intrinsically rude to relay an awkward message through a third party. In fact, I often relay messages to third parties even when the subject himself is present. For example, I might turn to the person on my right and say, “isn’t this guy to my left super annoying?” Watch them discuss the story below.

Ed Schultz Calls Laura Ingraham a “Right Wing Slut” — She Deserves It

Ed Schultz got himself in hot water for calling author Laura Ingraham a “right wing slut” after Ingraham attacked President Obama for drinking Guiness in Ireland on an official visit. Ingraham predictably jibed back, calling Schultz a misogynist, which ultimately forced Schultz to apologize for his “vile and inappropriate language.” For those who have forgotten, Laura Ingraham is the same asshole who called Meghan McCain a “useful idiot,” and later attacked her weight, calling her a “plus-sized model.” At the time, McCain took the high road, saying, “To all the curvy girls out there, don’t let anyone make you feel bad about your body. I love my curves and you should love yours too.” So in case Laura Ingraham is listening — you don’t get to arbitrarily attack another woman and then scream “misogyny” when someone attacks you. When you’re a jerk, I’m fine with just about any offensive term being thrown in your direction. That includes “slut.”

Pink Attacks Selena Gomez for Painting Horses Pink

You would think that an artist named Pink would enjoy the color theme that Selena Gomez chose for her new video. Perhaps if she painted herself pink instead of horses, she might have been in the clear. As a PETA supporter, Pink said, “If there are any animal activists around Malibu . . . there are horses being painted for a stupid music video. Shame.” Selena Gomez’s team immediately responded to the bad press, saying that the material used to paint the horses is a “non toxic, vegetable based powder paint” and it “was applied via an airbrush and removed with water.” Well, I’m glad Gomez’s people cleared that up. Personally, I love being painted with a non toxic based powder paint and standing in the sun on a hot Los Angeles day. Those animals must have really enjoyed themselves.
