Tom Cruise Reprises Tropic Thunder Character for MTV Movie Awards (Video)

I know there are a lot of Tom Cruise haters in the world, but I happen to love him.  I think he’s brilliant, and the video below is evidence of that.  In the first video, Cruise plays Tropic Thunder’s Les Grossman, the disgusting studio exec that is lending his words of wisdom to Robert Pattinson.  The second video is even better.  Rumor has it that Cruise’s character in the film was modeled after Harvey Weinstein.

‘Sex and The City 2’ Movie Review – I’m Luke Warm

I really wanted to like this movie.  I promise I did.  I was an avid fan of the series, and I threw a girls night out party for the first film.  Unfortunately, I didn’t like it.  It was merely okay.  The main problem involves the blaring lack of story.  The first act stays true to the tone of the series, with Carrie feeling that her marriage to Big has become stale, along with Charlotte experiencing the overwhelming demands of motherhood.  Then comes act two.  The girls go to Abu Dhabi, and the film creatively ends about 20 minutes into the excursion.  Abu Dhabi becomes the main character, and the girls become supporting players.  So much of the second act surrounds the surprise with Abu Dhabi’s grandor.  Wow! Look at this bathroom!  Wow!  Look at this shower!  Wow!  Everything is free!  When you find that all the dialogue in a film is about objects, I think the ship is sinking.  Aiden shows up briefly, and his appearance reminded me of another problem in the film – where are the men?!  Mr. Big is barely in it, and all the other supporting actors that we’ve grown to love are unused.  I kept praying that Smith Jared would swoop in to win back Samantha, but to no avail.  And I hate to admit this (gosh, I really hate it), but Samantha on the prowl came off as pathetic.  I don’t think it’s because she’s too old to be on the prowl, or that she isn’t as hot as she used to be (she’s still very hot), it’s that it simply didn’t work.  Perhaps it’s because I just want her to be with Smith, or it’s that it felt like a backwards leap – I can’t quite put my finger on why it didn’t work.  All I can say is . . . it didn’t work.  When the third act came around I breathed a huge sigh of relief.  Mr. Big will be back and boy do I love me some Mr. Big.  Well, I am sad to even call it a third act because it was probably under five minutes.  They quickly tied the “story” up with a big pink bow and ended the film.  I sat through 2 hours of Abu Dhabi for five minutes with Mr. Big?!  I’m pained to hit the publish button on this post.  I so badly wanted this film to be good, and the critics to be wrong.  So that I can sleep well tonight, I will tell you that the film is still worth seeing.  I love these women, I love these characters, and I love the fashion.  Go pay tribute!

James McAvoy Will Star in X-Men: First Class —I’m Unhappy

James McAvoy has signed on for the new X-Men film, which is said to be a prequel to the franchise.   McAvoy is one of my favorite actors and I hate the fact that he’s transitioning from being a character actor to a big box office star.  I realize the man has to eat, and the easiest way to make money is starring in big budget films, but I thought he was already in a position to pick and choose his roles based on quality.  He was in ‘Atonement’ and ‘The Last King of Scotland,’ and now this?  I’m disappointed.

My Favorite Song From This Week’s ‘Glee’ – Mark Salling Sings ‘Beth’ by Kiss

I’m aware that I’m late on this post, and I’m also aware that this week’s ‘Glee’ was centered on the glorious Lady Gaga. But the song that knocked me off my feet was ‘Beth’ by Kiss. Mark Salling knocked it out of the park. Listen below.

American Idol Bandleader ‘Rickey Minor’ – Pissed at Producers

TMZ reports that ‘American Idol’ bandleader, Rickey Minor, was furious with producers for not mentioning him during last night’s finale.  Minor is leaving ‘Idol’ to head-up Jay Leno’s band on ‘The Tonight Show,’ and last night was his last show.  He’s been with ‘Idol’ for six seasons, and I’m sure he expected that producers would bid him a public farewell.  So was this an oversight or a deliberate snub?  It wouldn’t surprise me if it was an oversight, given that the producers of the show can’t even figure out how to run it on time, let alone plan a proper finale.  That being said, the ‘Idol’ band gets a lot of flak from the judges, who constantly say things to the contestants like “I didn’t  like the arrangement, or “I loved that song until the band kicked in.”  So has there been bad blood all along?

Janet Jackson Steals the Show on ‘American Idol’ – Watch Video

Last night’s ‘American Idol’ finale was fantastic, and it wasn’t because of the contestants.  Janet Jackson sang two of her smash hits, ‘Nobody’ and ‘Nasty Boys.’  She looked the best I’ve ever seen her, and this might have been one of her strongest performances in history.  Sometimes artists are so focused on gratuitous showmanship that we lose sight of the fact that they are actually very talented singers.  Last night, Janet reminded us of her singing chops and her ability to out perform just about any of the current artists in the industry.  While she sang ‘Nothing’, she was in sexy black unitard that wasn’t a ridiculously over the top glitter extravangaza.  She also was sans fake hair, which might have been my favorite part.  She came on the stage, dominated it, and then left.  For a second I found myself thinking – how’d she do that?  Come back on stage and sing another one!!  Watch below.

Lee Dewyze Wins American Idol – I’m a Genius

It’s not often that I toot my own horn, but when I can do it without reservation, it makes me very happy.  Lee Dewyze won American Idol tonight, and I can safety say that I called it.  I’d like to direct you to my post that was published on March 16, 2010, where I stated that he was my favorite to win (at a time when the judges had yet to realize he was a frontrunner).  Click the link below to see the evidence of my Cowell-like ability.  And watch the video if you’d like to see a very grateful Lee Dewyze win the show.

Law and Order is Dead – TNT Rejects Picking it Up

TNT released a statement today confirming what many Law and Order fans feared the most: they won’t keep the show alive.  Series creator Dick Wolf was hoping that the show would find a new home on TNT after NBC failed to pick it up for a 21st season.  Unfortunately, TNT said that they “are not interested in a Season 21.”  This means that there is also no hope of beating ‘Gunsmoke’ as the longest running television series in history, with a full 20 seasons on the air.  My guess is that TNT simply doesn’t have it in their budget to pick up another series for their network, and since they are already running reruns of the series, the chance of making a profit off original episodes is minimal.  Perhaps the show will find another home, but I doubt it.

Kate Gosselin’s Dancing With the Stars Salary Revealed – How Much Did She Earn?

In case you were wondering why Kate Gosselin would fly across the country every week to compete on Dancing With the Stars, the answer has been revealed.  Popeater reports that Gosselin made $100,000 per episode, which means that she took home a grand total of $500,000.  This paycheck does not surprise me.  Gosselin was the biggest draw of the season, and after she left the ratings went down significantly.  That explains why they brought her back for the finale, despite all of the reports about her being difficult.  She sure is doing well lately.  With her two new TLC shows, I don’t think she’ll have a problem feeding her eight children.  Do you think Jon contributes at all anymore?

Howard Stern Denounces his Radio Hall of Fame Nomination – “Don’t Vote for Me”

The National Radio Hall of Fame nominated Howard Stern this year, and Stern isn’t impressed.  He claims that the National Radio Hall of Fame is complete bull shit, and his fans shouldn’t vote for him.  Stern’s main source of anger is that he’s been the King of radio for a gazillion years and he’s shunned from the nominations every year.  So now that they finally came around and acknowledged him, he wants no part of it.  He’s also insulted that he is up against people that he considers complete nobodys in radio (Bob Brinker; Carl Kasell; and Bob Kingsley).  So should the fans listen to Stern and refrain from voting?  I say no.  Stern’s most hilarious radio is when he’s insanely angry about something, so I recommend doing everything you can to incite some animosity.
