“I got married because I fell in love, and I got divorced because it wasn’t working.” Russell Brand’s very astute yet simple explanation to Howard Stern on why his marriage ended, in response to Stern’s inquiry about the truth behind the many tabloid rumors about his relationship.
Photo Courtesy of GQ MagazineSince celebrities shockingly made the baby craze cool, I’ve posted excerpts from Mad Men’s January Jones interview with Mom.Me about her new role as a mother. Read the entire interview here. And yes, I’m aware that this picture is inappropriate for the story, but they didn’t send me an image, and I have a thing for women’s breasts. What can I say?
On advice for working moms:
I think that as hard as it is, that if you have something that you love outside of being a mother, you should definitely maintain it, because it makes you a better mother.
On how being a mother changed her opinion of her character, Betty Draper:
I try not to judge her. It’s like she’s a relative you are embarrassed about. I disagree with her a lot … I don’t think I’d be her friend, but I defend her fiercely when someone says something about her.
On Betty Draper’s influence on her as a mom:
Well, I certainly don’t take anything from Betty home. I have nothing in common with her when it comes mothering. I don’t see it as a burden or irritation. I feel very lucky and I feel like it was something that I was meant to do. I’m at the right age and the right time in my life where it’s just so much fun. And I don’t think Betty sees the fun in that … I think she sees it as an inconvenience.
On playing a mom from a different era:
At the same time we are so rigid and so worried about every little thing now. I had no idea how many warning labels are on kid’s stuff. Everything is warning, warning, warning. You just kind of do the best you can.
Here at The Dishmaster, I read a lot of interviews, and every so often a story is just ridiculous enough to sound off my red-flag alarm. Today’s story in question involves ‘The Newsroom’ star Jeff Daniels, and how he landed his coveted new role. When asked how he convinced writer Aaron Sorkin that he could shed his nice-guy persona for a mean guy role, Daniels said:
“I had to have a meeting with [Aaron Sorkin] at a hotel here in New York to convince him that I could be angry and I tried, you know, raising my voice, being rude to the waiter and I tried all these different things and I could tell he wasn’t buying it. So at some point, I just said, ‘Aaron’ and I reached across and I placed my hand on his head… I”m gonna do this to Jimmy and it’s not going to hurt. I promise. And I took Aaron’s head and I slammed it down into the table and he bounced back up and then I had the role!”
Photo Courtesy of Beth SternIf you’re a Howard Stern fan, then you know how much he loved his beautiful bull dog Bianca. He got the dog with his wife, and her full name was Bianca Romijn-Stamos-O’Connell-Ostrosky-Stern. Stern and his wife originally named her after their good friends, Rebecca Romijn and John Stamos, and after Romijn and Stamos divorced, the Sterns changed her last name to reflect Romijn’s new marriage to Jerry O’Connell. Stern often talked about his love for Bianca on his radio show. Of her recent passing, Stern tweeted, “Tough day today my friends. Thanks to all for all the kind messages. Give your dog a hug for me tonight.”
Interviews with actors often run long, in hopes that journalists will get enough material to pick-and-choose what works best with their article. Though actors might think certain disclosures are the most interesting, they are often times incorrect. In the case of Joseph Gordon Levitt, it’s a tough call. Levitt objected to GQ Magazine’s coverage of his brother during their interview, specifically that GQ talked more about how his brother died than how he lived, and mistakenly said his death was related to drugs. I re-read the content in question, and I think Levitt’s sensitivity about the subject skewed his judgment. GQ barely addressed the subject, which is likely because after Levitt’s instruction they were probably paranoid about mentioning him at all. Furthermore, they referred to the drug overdose as “alleged,” and they mentioned his name in a positive context.
“I can absolutely believe that Donn cheated on Vicki for 20 years. What I cannot believe is that I sat through six seasons of Vicki whining about her empty love tank and complaining nonstop about her marriage like she didn’t know what on earth the problem could be when she knew. The. Whole. Time. How could she do this to me? How could Bravo do this to me?!?!” Stephanie Region’s (The Baltimore Sun) very hilarious recount of the biggest revelation in Real Housewives reunion history.
To make it in the music industry during these destitute economic times, you not only have to be talented, you also have to be a marketing genius. And Green Day got the memo. They likely could have hung it up after ‘American Idiot’s’ Broadway success, but they didn’t. They keep producing great content, and ‘Oh Love!’ is no exception. It’s their first single in their three part album series, titled, ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré! Listen below.
Another day, another celebrity apology. In response to the insane amount of criticism over the United States’ Olympic uniforms not actually being made in the United States, Ralph Lauren issued an official statement, saying:
“For more than 45 years Ralph Lauren has built a brand that embodies the best of American quality and design rooted in the rich heritage of our country. We are honored to continue our longstanding relationship with the United States Olympic Committee in the 2014 Olympic Games by serving as an Official Outfitter of the US Olympic and Paralympic teams. Ralph Lauren promises to lead the conversation within our industry and our government addressing the issue of increasing manufacturing in the United States and has committed to producing the Opening and Closing ceremony Team USA uniforms in the United States that will be worn for the 2014 Olympic Games.”
Translation? We like to keep our price point low to make a larger profit, but because we got in trouble we’ll make an exception . . . this time around.
I’ve never understood a man’s desire to forgo the condom. I fundamentally reject the idea of putting my entire future in the hands of another person’s responsibility. There’s also that very obvious other reason, which is a major source of concern (pun intended — and not easy to ascertain). But congratulations to Lindsay Lohan, who will soon be a big sister for a fourth time.
