Leah Remini and Holly Robinson Peete Fired From ‘The Talk’?

When I first watched ‘The Talk,’ I knew almost immediately that the show would not survive with its panel of hosts. The women didn’t gel, and the only person that I thought had true talent was Julie Chen, who, similar to Barbara Walters’ role on ‘The View,’ is a real journalist (though there is only one Babs). So it’s no surprise that three of the original hosts have been given the axe. This includes: Leah Remini, Holly Robinson Peete, and Marissa Jaret Winokur. Leah Remini recently admitted to the firing (or “not having her option picked up” as it goes in Hollywood), which I appreciate. There’s no need to develop some elaborate excuse about not wanting to return (hear that Megan Fox?). Though I feel bad for them, this was a good decision on CBS’ part. First, Remini wasn’t funny. She’s an actress not a comedian. Unlike Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, and Sherri Shepherd, Remini not only lacks the timing necessary to navigate those segments, but she also is the rare breed of annoying, which includes thinking you’re funny when you’re not (at least Julie Chen never attempted jokes). As for Holly Robinson Peete, she just wasn’t particularly interesting or funny. I hate to be harsh, but I’m glad CBS got their act together. There are rumors swirling that Kris Jenner might be the new co-host, which is actually a good idea. Despite my love/hate relationship with the Kardashians, they are relevant — like it or not.

Dear Christine O’Donnell — If you Don’t Support Gay Marriage — You’re a Bigot

While sitting in my law school class one day, my lesbian friend couldn’t understand how it’s constitutional to prohibit gay marriage if ‘Loving v. Virginia’ says “marriage is a fundamental right.”  I quickly explained that ‘Loving’ only said it was a fundamental right for a black person and white person to get married, and the courts have decided that the case doesn’t apply to gay people. After all, if that case did apply to gay people, isn’t that a slippery slope? Wouldn’t we then be able to marry dogs (that’s a joke by the way — and it’s unfortunately been an argument often used against same-sex couples tying the knot). But I turned to my gay friend and quickly said, “equal rights will come last for gay people on this issue — and it’s sad how long it’s taking.”  So what’s my point?

Christine O’Donnell marched off Piers Morgan when he asked for her views on gay marriage, and I’ve concluded she can join Michele Bachman on my bigot list.  If a politician was racist, they wouldn’t dare publicly expose their racist views on national television.  They would simply lie about it until they got busted by a random kid with a camera phone while drunkenly spouting racist remarks at a bar somewhere. Had O’Donnell behaved this way if Piers asked for her views on inter-racial marriage, the entire country would call her racist, and she’d be publicly lambasted.  But for some reason, when the  subject of gay marriage is on the table, the world is asked to “accept opposing views” on the issue, because “we live in a country that welcomes everyone’s ideas.”

I don’t accept the views of bigots.  Not in my country.

Anderson Cooper Discusses Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt — But Why?

Last I checked, Anderson Cooper was a real journalist. If you’re looking for a definition of “journalist,” I’m sure you’ll find it does not include discussions of Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt. These two people are no longer relevant in the media, given that they don’t currently have a show on the air. Furthermore, CNN is not ‘The View,” which means all celebrity content should be judiciously chosen. If you’re going to complain about people who are “famous for nothing,” perhaps you should change your gripe to people who “famous for being discussed by Anderson Cooper.”

Bethenny Frankel Co-Hosts ‘The View’ — Should They Hire Her?

Bethenny Frankel co-hosted ‘The View’ today, and the producers might want to consider giving her a permanent spot. She seemed to be the only normal person on the panel, often stating the obvious points that the other yentas consistently miss. Watch her very funny conversation with Laura Ingraham about the competition for baby tutors.

Meryl Streep is ‘The Iron Lady’ — New Trailer

I know Meryl Streep is a genius, but she still consistently exceeds my expectations. Is that even possible? She’s brilliant, and the trailer for ‘The Iron Lady,’ is no exception. When I first heard about the Margaret Thatcher biopic, I thought, “another one of these?” Then I heard that Meryl Streep was attached and I thought, “now that’s a film I want to see.” I’m told Streep has worked with the same costume designer for years, and for ‘The Devil Wears Prada,’ it was Streep’s idea to lose weight for the character. In fact, when the ladies of ‘The View’ asked Streep if the producers suggested she lose weight for the role, Streep said, “they wouldn’t dare!.” Watch the trailer below.

Barbara Walters to Bristol Palin: “You Must Have Liked the Sex”

If you’re a Dishmaster fan, then you know my Barbara Walters love, and her interview with Bristol Palin on The View further solidifies it. When addressing Bristol’s claim that Levi Johnston “stole her virginity,” because she was drunk when they had sex, Walters said, “you must have liked it because you kept doing it.” The audience laughed, and Bristol said she figured she might as well continue, as she had already “broken her moral code.” Wow. What’s the moral code on implying that someone sexually took advantage of you so you could sell books?

Alexis Stewart Appears ‘The View’ — Makes Zero Sense

Alexis Stewart appeared on ‘The View’s’ surrogacy themed episode to discuss her fertility issues, and I think it’s fair to say she has some other issues as well. Her appearance is a great example of why guests need to be pre-screened, regardless of their status. In the clip below, you’ll see that she speaks in circles, and even has trouble forming entire sentences. At one point, Whoopi Goldberg hilariously turns to the camera and makes a face of complete confusion. I’m guessing that Whoopi just threw in the towel while the other ladies made a valiant effort to make sense of her rambling. The only enjoyable comment came from Joy Behar when she asked Alexis if her mother, Martha Stewart, “knitted her a crib.” Watch below.

Paris Hilton Talks About Barbara Walters Scuffle — Handles it Well

For whatever reason, this blog has become very centered on Paris Hilton lately. Perhaps my brain is deteriorating. For those that don’t know, Hilton and Barbara Walters had a recent scuffle, which the press blamed on Barbara’s hard-hitting questions during their interview. Paris addressed the issue in an interview with E! below, and she handled it surprisingly well. Instead of firing back at the ladies of The View, she took the high road and said she respects Babs’ journalist skills, and the press blew the entire thing out of proportion. Who knew Paris could form actual sentences? Good job! Watch below.

Paris Hilton Pissed at Barbara Walters — Was Babs Too Tough on Her?

Rumor has it that Paris Hilton was furious with her interview on The View because of Barbara Walters’ interrogation. Believe it or not, I actually side with Paris Hilton. If you watch the interview below, Barbara asked some very judgmental questions. She pointed out that Paris resented her community service and complained that she didn’t want to get out of bed. Barbara said she should have been pleased to help prisoners instead of complaining about her “high heels.” Here’s the thing — Does anyone actually like doing community service? Perhaps I’m a heartless prick, but every time I do something good I complain the entire time. What’s the fun in giving if you can’t kvetch about it? And furthermore, no one really believes that Paris Hilton is a “business woman.” So if you’re going to invite her on your show then you better be nice. You shouldn’t be inviting annoying guests just so you can publicly lambaste them.

Rob Lowe Angry with ‘The Outsiders’ — Is Rob Lowe too Sensitive?

How many times does Rob Lowe need to discuss a career grievance before he realizes that he might be the problem? In a recent interview to promote his new book, Lowe revealed that many of his scenes from ‘The Outsiders’ were cut, and he’s “never forgiven them for that.” This revelation can be added to the long list of Lowe career -whines. During a recent appearance on ‘The View,’ Lowe said he left ‘The West Wing’ because “they gave everyone but him a raise.” If you know anything about the entertainment industry, then you know that raises are built into actors’ contracts, which means that simply isn’t possible. It is possible; however, that they gave other actors a larger raise than Lowe, leading him to leave the show in a huff. And what about ‘Brothers and Sisters’? Rumor has it Lowe left the show because he felt his character was under utilized, and he asked to be released from his contract. Something tells me that Rob Lowe is too sensitive for the industry. That being said, I’ll allow him to cry on my shoulder. The man sure is yummy.
