Anne Hathaway Needs to Talk About Her Con-Artist Ex-Boyfriend

Anne Hathaway has desperately tried to push her personal-life under the rug, but there’s just one problem. America isn’t over it. She dated a con-artist, and apparently had no idea of Raffaello Follieri’s actions until just before he was arrested. In a recent interview with Vogue, she said, “I hate talking about it, because I don’t want it to define me.” Every single person that interviews Hathaway tries to get her to talk about it, and she refuses. Barbara Walters interviewed her for her Oscar special, and she was instructed to avoid the topic altogether. Walters instead asked, “what was your year like?” Anne then gave some canned response about how “asking others for help is important.” If she would just do a real sit-down with Walters or Oprah, and discuss the topic head-on, people would leave it alone for good.

The View Discusses Bill O’Reilly Incident — Whoopi & Joy Still Act Like Children

The ladies of The View had a very candid discussion about Thursday’s Bill O’Reilly incident, and their discussion indicates that Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar learned nothing from the experience.  Whoopi said that if she didn’t exit the stage she would have “lost it,” and Joy likened her walk-out to a scene in 12 Angry Men, when the jurors stood up and faced the wall to express their disapproval of their bigoted fellow juror.  I have a few things to say about this.  First, Whoopi indicated that O’Reilly “started in with her” as soon as he sat down on the couch.  Nice try.  O’Reilly addressed Whoopi directly because she stared at him with a disapproving scowl on her face, which she always does when she doesn’t like the guest.  You can’t blame O’Reilly for his inappropriate attempt to lighten the mood.  Second, Joy and Whoopi should be capable of having a calm conversation.  The ladies also indicated that O’Reilly said during the break that the conflict would “help their ratings,” which angered the ladies, including Babs, who said, “we are doing fine without your help.”  Did it occur to these women that O’Reilly was probably itching for a statement to break the tension and failed miserably?  In closing, I would like to reiterate a point I eloquently made in my previous post: If Joy and Whoopi are correct in how they behaved, then what do they suggest Barbara Walters should have done when she interviewed Fidel Castro?  Should she have stood up and faced the wall?

Mel Gibson in Hangover 2 — Must You Murder Someone to Get the Hollywood Ban?

Please explain to me what Mel Gibson has to do to get banned from Hollywood for eternity.  I believe in second chances just as much as the next guy, but there’s no evidence that Mel Gibson is contrite for any of his actions.  Those “actions” include the much publicized tapes, along with his Jew-hating-Malibu-tirade.  He’s also been on record insulting gay people.  Gibson discussed some of these events during a ridiculous Diane Sawyer interview, where he clearly took no responsibility for his behavior.  So this brings me to my original question.  What does someone have to do to get banned from Hollywood for eternity?  I’m guessing murder, but I’m sure someone out there can think of an exception to even that.  Why employ this guy in Hangover 2?  Why give him a second chance?  Is he sorry?  Is he getting help?  Or is he the same Jew-hating, wife-beating maniac that we’ve come to know and love.

Kings of Leon Album — Only By the Night — It’s Incredible!

I don’t usually promote albums that are already successful, but I have to make an exception for Kings of Leon, whose album is so incredible, I cannot stop playing it on repeat.  With the mainstream success of Use Somebody, I ignorantly assumed that the rest of the album would pale in comparison.  I was wrong.  The album is incredible from start to finish.  I’ve picked on the group for their aversion to “selling out,” because they refused to allow their songs to be featured in mainstream movie trailers.  Perhaps they know more than I do, because they’ve successfully avoided over-exposure.  The band consists of three brothers and one cousin, and they’ve been around for over 11 years, yet they didn’t achieve mainstream success in the United States until they released Only By the Night, which had the songs, Use Somebody, Sex on Fire, and Notion.  I’ve posted their lesser known song, Closer, below.  Enjoy!

What Ever Happened to: Jake Ryan From Sixteen Candles?

Ladies everywhere have drooled over Michael Schoeffling.  Sixteen Candles is timeless, and every time I watch it I wonder why I’ve never seen the very yummy Jake Ryan again.  After some intense Google digging, I discovered his whereabouts.  Schoeffling retired from acting in 1991, and moved back to his hometown of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to start his own furniture company.  He’s often pursued for a ‘Where Are They Now’ interview, but no one knows the exact location of his business.  He’s unlisted and clearly doesn’t want to be found.  In fact, GQ Magazine tried and failed to track him down in 2002, calling him the “Salinger of male model/actors.”  There’s one report of a sighting though, from a lone blogger who noticed him while shopping at his furniture store.  He graciously laughed upon being recognized, and the woman asked why he quit acting for carpentry.  Schoeffling said that he wasn’t getting the kind of roles he wanted, so he decided to start his own business instead.  And there you have it.  I found that story particularly interesting, because I consider Schoeffling to have been a movie star in his time.  He starred in three major motion pictures: Sixteen Candles; Mermaids; and the very underrated, Wild Hearts Can’t be Broken.  You would think he’d give it more of a chance before giving up on his acting career entirely.  Perhaps he got out just in time.  I’m not sure he’d like the paparazzi-driven Hollywood of today’s generation.

UPDATE: Thanks to Wet Paint, I’ve discovered Michael Schoeffling’s very beautiful daughter, Scarlett Schoeffling. She’s a model who lives in NYC, and she’s predictably gorgeous. Check out a vintage pic of her pop, followed by a current snap of the soon-to-be star.

Radar Online Calls Lady Gaga Fat — Seriously, Guys?

If you click on the “about me” section to the right of this post, you’ll see my mission statement, in which I declare an end to internet bullying that I see elsewhere.  Today’s culprit is Radar Online, who accused Lady Gaga of having a “muffin top and a belly roll.”  The evidence for their disgusting claim is based on an unflattering photo of the singer in a slouched position.  First of all, every woman on the planet knows that the crouched position is never flattering.  Second, can the editor of Radar Online please pose in a speedo so that I can circle his own muffin top?  I realize that Gaga invites this by wearing promiscuous clothing, but does the Radar editor hope to see a stick thin woman?  Evidence suggests that men who favor stick-thin women are closet homosexuals.  And if you’re wondering where I got that scientific data, it’s from TheDishmaster.edu.  Look it up.

Russell Brand Won’t Get Pre-Nup — Hollywood Divorces Taught Him Nothing

Russell Brand revealed that he won’t be getting a pre-nuptial agreement for his upcoming marriage to Katy Perry, because he’s “trying to preserve and make it a beautiful thing.” Call me a cynic but just about everything is beautiful until things go sour, and half your fortune is gone. Perhaps Brand can learn a thing or two from Hollywood marriages gone wrong. My favorite fortune-squandering story involves Sam Simon, one of the three original creators of The Simpsons. Simon was married to Jennifer Tilly for seven years, and they officially divorced just two years after The Simpsons aired, which means that Tilly gets half of Sam Simon’s royalties for the rest of her life. When asked by Howard Stern whether it drives him nuts that she gets half, Simon simply said, “it is what it is, and there is nothing I can do about it.” Simon is less guilty than Russell Brand though, who already has his fortune going into his marriage with Katy Perry. Translation? Brand should know better.

Kim Kardashian Parties With Perez for Her Birthday — Did she Forgive Him?

There’s something very interesting about the photos from Kim Kardashian’s 30th birthday party — Perez Hilton is there.  Perez Hilton has often bashed the Kardashian sisters on his blog, once going so far as to call Khloe Kardashian an “ugly amazon.”  So does she have a forgiving heart, or is she hoping to stay close to Perez to keep her name on his website?  I surmise it’s the latter.  And the Kardashians aren’t alone.  Demi Moore once threatened to sue Perez for child pornography when he posted pictures of her young daughter’s ass on his website.  Perez then countered with a defamation threat.  You wouldn’t guess that by the twitter love between the two.  Demi posted a twit-pic of herself in a bikini, and Perez responded with a pic of himself a speedo.  Demi playfully retweeted his pic, saying, “I think I started a trend.”  Did she forgive him too?  And what about Lindsay Lohan?  Perez often attacks her on his site, yet Lohan had no problem attending his birthday bash, and getting her picture taken with him.  Nothing says forgiveness like getting your name mentioned on a high-traffic blog.

Jenny McCarthy Continues to Diss Jim Carrey

Jenny McCarthy loved to talk about Jim Carrey while they were together, and she still loves talking about him while they are apart. You would think that when they broke up Jim was done having his relationship splashed across tabloids. McCarthy’s latest confession is that her current fling with James Toohey is the first time she has been “open and truthful” in a relationship. This reminds of Sarah Silverman’s confession that her current boyfriend is the “first guy to tell her she’s pretty,” followed by a subsequent denial that she was taking a dig as Jimmy Kimmel in the press. Is this seriously necessary? You don’t see Jim Carrey doing an Oprah interview discussing how his relationship with Jenny was “no longer fun anymore.”  Do you notice that it’s always the less famous person who spills the relationship secrets?
